QUILT DIARY: October Sewalong Updates

I finally hit a wall and have had to take a step back. I had so many sewalongs going on that I fell behind and then I was feeling terrible about myself. When I realized I wasn’t having fun anymore, I dropped the idea of joining two more sewalongs starting at the end of September and beginning of October.

I am pleased to say this Sew-A-Long is on track! I have everything through September sewn and October is cut and ready to go! I’m really loving the colors I picked for this quilt. They are so Fresh and Spring like.

2020 Monthly Color Challenge January – August blocks

Sad to say I never finished my September block but I did print out the pattern. I will need to do September (cinnamon) and October (green). So off to my Alison Glass stash to pull for these two blocks!!

Jelly Snowflake Mystery Quilt hosted by Fat Quarter Shop

Jelly Snowflake top is destined to be a table topper.

I have almost finished this quilt. The top is assembled except for the borders. Just yesterday, I finally decided what I wanted to do with this quilt top and I have decided to turn it into a table topper. Last decision is whether to add any kind of batting or layer between front and back. I am leaning towards just putting a piece of flannel. I don’t think enough for the backing, so that may require some shopping. Darn!

Good Morning Mugs Top with no borders plus backing fabric

I finished my table runner except adding my borders. I have also picked out my backing. Just need to layer, quilt, and bind!

Are You Game? Mystery Quilt hosted by Cotton Cuts for Fall 2020

Team Azul for the Small quilt – clues 2 & 3
Team Labyrith for the Large quilt – clues 2 & 3

Last week found me catching up on this monthly sewalong. This particular mystery quilt, I signed up to do a small one in one colorway and a large one in another. The large one I was on the waiting list and was the one I really wanted. Both quilts are batiks this time. I just wrapped up clues 2 and 3 last week for both!

Team Coloriffic Large Mystery Quilt – clues 6,7, 8A

For the most part, I am current on this monthly quilt-a-long. I just order the border and backing fabrics so am anxiously waiting for the arrival. I just realized that it might have been in the package that was stolen off my front porch two weeks ago so now I will need to followup. Somebody made a haul on fabric. (Note to self: Follow-up)

Meanwhile, I did finish clues 6,7, and most of 8. There was a miscut and they sent me the correct piece which arrived beginning of the week. Clue 9 has also arrived for this month and will need to be completed.

Jolly Bar Row-A-Long hosted by Fat Quarter Shop

Cali showing you all of the Jolly Bar blocks

I finished all the blocks. I just now need to do the sashing, borders, and assemble. Another one that is a bit small to be a lap quilt for an adult, but maybe my granddaughter would like it. It isn’t really a table topper type.

Going on a Picnic Weekly Sew-a-Long with Pat Sloan

Southwestern flair for my Going on a Picnic blocks 1-8. I believe there is another 4 blocks to be completed.

I did really good until we hit September, then I fell off the wagon big time. As mentioned, I got overwhelmed with too many projects that involved making multiple blocks per week. This was a mystery quilt and all the patterns have been released. I will just need to take stock of where I am and pull fabric for the blocks. I really love how this quilt is coming together.

Halloween/Fall Perfect 10 Sew-A-Long with Pat Sloan

Rows 1-3 of the Halloween Perfect 10 – Birthday Cake Quilt pattern using Haunted Mansion fabric collection and peach grunge.

This was one of the new starts in October that required making 6 blocks per week. I absolutely love the peach grunge that I found for the background of this quilt. Everything is cut for this one. When it is done, it will be fabulous. I have been sewing this one slowly but steadily. I finished piecing row 3 and sashing row. I just need to attach to first two rows now.

Bringing Home the Christmas Tree Sew-A-Long with Pat Sloan

Scrappy Tree block for Bring Home the Christmas Tree Quilt designed by Lori Holt from Bee in my Bonnet using Alison Glass Holiday fabrics and whatever greens and browns were in the scrap basket

This is the one that broke the reindeer’s back so to speak. I am not real good with flying geese so it took me a entire day to cut all the pieces for the all the Tree blocks and just to sew my only block.

I still need to cut all the car blocks. I have the fabric picked out, I just need to have a cutting session. The car blocks can be cut as I go, I just need to do it.

Wrap Up

I have so far resisted the urge to join a few other sewalongs that are going on. The two in mind are both weekly sewalongs so if I get all caught up, I will allow myself to join these. Both started last week – Cozy Things with Pat Sloan and Sewcialite with Fat Quarter Shop.

AccuQuilt Ohio Star Snowman blocks using left over fabric from a PIQF project recently rediscovered.

In all honesty, I probably should. I finally have tackled emptying the boxes that were brought back last summer from when my house flooded in 2017. I have uncovered so many projects that are part way finished and several never begun. I was so excited to find fabric that I bought for my first strip club quilt. I have united the top and the fabric and hope to at least finish the top this quarter. I also found the most adorable Ohio Star blocks with fussy cut snowmen in the middle. So many cute projects….. Time to focus on finishing a few things.
