Quilt Diary: A Year In Words-Autumn Finish for Quarter 3 FAL 2019

Woohoo!  Finally wrapped up this project that has been in my sewing room for over a year.  It felt good to hang it on the wall yesterday.  I absolutely love the hanger I purchased from Ackfeld Manufacturing a month ago.  I did not realized that the leaves were colored until I took it out of the package.  So nice!  My larger series, I usually buy one hanger for the series.  I haven’t decided if I will continue using this hanger for the whole series.  I originally bought the WELCOME hanger for this series but decided it was too many words.  We shall see.  For now, I am very pleased at the end result!  Here are a few more photos of the final process this week.

I will be linking this up with Capitola Quilter for the 3rd Quarter Finish-a-long in October.  My original list can be found here.  This also fulfilled my weekly goal with #onethingwithAmy this week!  Thanks Amy.  Those little steps help to fulfill the big ones.

Applique Update

So that leaves only three projects left to finish this month for my quarter 3 goals.

Schoolhouse Wooly Mug Rug with Shabby Fabrics

You may recall that this is a hand applique project that is in my to go bag.  Yesterday I was able to finish up whipstitching all the individual wool pieces to the background.  I started my embroidery embellishment.  I am starting with black pearl cotton thread #8 to do the French knots for the door knobs and the backstitch on the windows.  I have three windows to go.  I am anxious to start on the apples which will be a Chinese knot.  I have never done this stitch but it looks fun.

Jack ‘O Lantern Mug Rug with Shabby Fabrics

Earlier in the quarter I had pulled it out, but then put it away as I didn’t want the distraction of too many hand projects out.  With the schoolhouse in the next to last phase, I pulled this one out and laid it on my workbench (otherwise known as my kitchen island).  I love Halloween so I am anxious to finish up all these projects so I can start my cool Halloween projects.

Pansies Blooming Series (also by Shabby Fabric)

Still stuck on purple here.  I will have to deliberately pull out my purple thread and set it next to my machine.  It will take a couple of hours to finish machine appliqueing (blanket stitch for me) to the background.  I have also decided to pull out the batting to finish this step to see how I like the subsequent look.  Not sure if I will actually get to this during the week unless I do some tonight as I will be heading to Denver for a hockey tournament on Thursday.  We shall see.

Sew-A-Long Updates

With finishing Mama Gypsy, I am back down to just a few sew-a-longs.

#100days100blocks2019

Still moving along nicely with this one.  With my tight schedule for the past few weeks, I have put off putting together rows 6 & 7.  Soon I will have enough for row 8 too.  My creative juices have been flowing since Wednesday so I really liked the results of these blocks.  Here are blocks 74-77 (September 12th – 15th).

I will have to set my goal with Amy tomorrow to finish the next 10 blocks this week since I will be on the road.  That means I need to be done through block 87 by Wednesday.  Since I will have to be at home for the delivery of my new washer and dryer on Wednesday, it should be doable.  Ready.  Set.  Go!

#365blockchallenge

I am getting back on track for this one.  I finished my first block in a month yesterday.  It is being book pressed now and photographed.  I will include a picture for you.  I have started the next block as well and am about half way.  The six inch blocks are usually very involved.  I have been sewing my 365 blocks and 100 days blocks at the same time.  It takes a little longer but I like being able to finish stuff without feeder pieces.

Farmers Wife 1920 EPP SewALong

This probably should be changed to Challenge but the tag is still being used for all of us still working on this.  I finally wrapped up block 27 – Darting Birds.img_2465

I will be starting Block 28-Duck and Ducklings in Alison Glass red.  I love the contrast.  It will go faster as there are a lot less pieces to sew.  As mentioned last time, blocks 29 & 30 are prepped and ready to go.  I also did the fabric pull for the next two blocks which will be all white.  I will get to use my new Alison Glass Light Sunprint collection for them.  So far so good!

Quilter’s Planner 2019 BOM Sew-A-Long

Today is the day to sew our September blocks.  Before I left the house, I started on this block and it will probably be finished up tonight or tomorrow.  So I should have new pics next time.  Still loving my Craftsy Botanical Blenders for this quilt.  It is going to look fantastic!

Cosmos Mystery QuiltALong with Cotton Cuts

This one is on hold until October.  Can’t wait to get clue 3!

Other Projects on the Sewing Table

I am still plugging away at the Halifax Temperature Quilt.  No significant progress to show.  The Zuma Charms Squared quilt is on hold while I catch up on a few other projects.  The Halloween placemats still need to pulled out of hiding and put literally on the sewing table.  So no new news to report since Wednesday on these projects.

I received my Alison Glass Handiwork fabric.  I will be looking for a quilt or a project to use on.  Not as rainbow as some of her other collections so I don’t think I will use it for the pollinate quilt or the new EPP project I ordered from Karie Jewell.  I am thinking it would look terrific in the Mama Gypsy or another large block pattern.  Or maybe a new challenge or SAL will come along.  I have seen a few, but nothing that floated my boat.

Quilting to be Done

I added this category Wednesday to stir up my guilt for not working on my projects that need quilting.  It seems being accountable to myself for all my in process projects is what motivates me, hence the new category.  Unfortunately, no progress to report on the 2010 NYE quilt or the Hexagon Charity quilt.

So that is a wrap for today.  Thanks for checking in on me.
