Quilt Diary: June 2019 here we come!

It is hard to believe it is June already.  I keep thinking I am going to get some large amount of free time.  Haha!  I am living in a fantasyworld, right?

Table Runner

So what did I really get done on my projects this week.  I have not finished anything new but I made some significant progress on my May Easy Pieced TableRunner.  I have plans to finish fusing all the applique this week.  I finished one side.  Just one to go!

This week past weekend I was able to make it to my local quilt shop to pick up some gorgeous coral and turquoise ombre fabric.  Once I finish this table runner, I will start the next one using those fabrics.  I also went ahead picked up some white on white fabrics.  You never have too much right?

I am finally on the sunflower which is beyond cute.  I am finishing up whip stitching all those beautiful shades of wool into place.  Then I will explore new embroidery stitches with some gorgeous pearl cotton threads.  These are the August coasters so I am guilt free so far when it comes to this project.  Of course, I jumped from June to August because last summer I fell in love with the watermelon rugs which were for July.  A little strutting around feeling all good (so what if I am in reality a year behind).  Here is a close up of some of my work.

365 block challenge

I am starting to feel a little guilty with this one.  It has been a least a month since I worked on this project.  I got so derailed when I started the trinket sew-a-long.  I am seriously considering not participating in the 100 blocks in a 100 days because I feel this will just make it worse.  If I can get rolling, we will see how this goes.  I am now on the light 6 inch blocks.  I have cut several blocks but not put one together for awhile.  The plan is to sew those couple of cut blocks this week sometime.

My coherts in crime are still posting.  We have some gorgeous quilts being made out there – shades of red, purple, rainbow, green, yellow.  Some really beautiful work being done.  If you have an instagram account, check out #365blockchallenge #365quiltchallenge #365blockchallenge2019 #365quiltchallenge2019

I finished up my May blocks for this monthly challenge just in a nick of time on May 31st.  This quilting is looking great.  After some of these other challenges, it is easy.  This weekend is a semi free weekend.  I hope to squeeze in the June blocks so they are done done done.  Here are the May blocks.

I finished up block 23 Country Farm.  I have prepped the next block 24 Country Path but haven’t started sewing on it.  I have the pieces clipped together but no actual sewing.  I have been doing the wooly mug rugs instead of this hand work.  Some week’s are like that.  My creative urge leans one way or the other.  I just go with the flow.

Online Goal Setting

My goal this week with Amy (#onethingwithamy) was to finish the applique for the table runner.

I did not set a monthly goals yet with Elm Street.  If it is not too late, I will set the goal to finish the tablerunner this month.  That is a great goal and I am working toward it with my weekly goals with Amy.

I still have my two quarterly goals (#2019FAL and #ssqfinishalong2019).  I will have to review those list to see how close I am on some of my goals.  In general, I need to take a step back and get refocused on my quilting goals, work goals, personal finance goals, and health goals.  With it being halfway through June, this is a good time to check in on myself.

Brag Time

Just wanted to do a little bragging on my grandson Shaun made the team this year for AA hockey.  Last year he got cut from his current team and we missed the tryouts (everyone has them at the same time).  It was a lot of tears for a then 10 year old.  We had to go out and ask find teams who may have a spot for him to play.  He had to play several levels lower than he was used to.  It was still a good year and a life lesson for him.  When one door closes, another will open.  This year he is all smiles.

My other little brag moment is that my daughter Caitlin is going to grad school in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  She has been a masters student.  She was approved (still has to do all the paperwork) to upgrade her thesis to a PhD.  Fingers crossed, she will be a PhD student by the beginning of Fall Term.
