To Do Tuesday #43

Boy was this week quick! I think I have too many things on my plate right now. LOL! Okay. You are right. I always have more things than I can do. This online class is taking the time slot I usually am quilting so I am definitely not getting as much time. That’s okay. In the long run, what I am learning will be applicable to so many of my hobbies.

I will be joining up with Carol for To Do Tuesday. Why don’t you jump over and join us too. It’s a fun way to meet new friends and get a lot of encouragement!

What Got Done This Week?

Well as I was mentioning, I didn’t get as much time in the sewing studio. You throw in the fact that one of my machines have been at the shop for a week (almost two) and it all makes sense. In my studio, I have two machines set up. I hadn’t realized I had fallen into the habit of using one for piecing and one for special projects such as applique. Everything at the other workstation is so not set up for a smooth piecing work flow. I have to laugh at myself but on the other hand it makes total sense.

I had a cutting day this week so that’s always a productive time.

  1. Finished applique and quilting my April Year in Words – Spring. I even made the hanging sleeve and binding this week. It’s almost ready to go on the wall.
  2. Finished applique my May Year in Words – Flowers. I got the hanging sleeve and binding made for this one as well.
  3. Finished making my Heart Mug Rugs. Only third finish for the year. Still, it felt good. I ended up deciding to applique in white around the hearts so that they would stand out on these adorable mug rugs.
  4. Cut my March Monthly Color Challenge block
  5. Cut 8 more March BOMs.
  6. Began sorting through my On Wander Lane March BOM that arrived last week. I sorted the applique into different “shapes” – house, sheet, plant, landscape. Also after organizing all my fabrics in the kit, cut all my blocks. I am modifying the pattern and making 5 blocks each month so I had to dig through my stash to find fabric to round out the 2 extra blocks I cut. I want to do one wall hanging per month versus one large quilt to hang on the wall. Still working out the monthly wall hanging in my head.
  7. Sewed up the background block and it’s trim as well as ironing on the landscape for On Wander Lane. I normally use fusible fleece for my wall hangings. This one is a bit different because there will be pieced blocks too. I found in my stash some tear away interfacing used for machine embrodiery that I will be using for appliquing all the shapes on the blocks. I cut that to fit the block.
  8. Sewed up 2 disappearing four patch blocks for On Wander Lane.

Hmmm. That’s the nice thing about doing this weekly blog. I usually discover that I was more productive than I thought. That is true for this week as well.

To Do List for Week of April 4th

I’m headed out of town this Friday to spend Easter with my daughter Caitlin in Seattle. I’ve been anxious to find a time that would work for us and I am excited to see her again. We talk regularly but it’s not just the same. So….. With only a few days until I leave, I am going to keep the list short.

  1. Finish Love Note Potholders.
  2. Finish Spring Wall Hanging.
  3. Finish Flowers Wall Hanging.
  4. Finish getting On Wander Lane House block ironed onto background.
  5. Sew On Wander Lane Shamrock block
  6. Sew On Wander Lane Square in a Square block (x2)
  7. Sew 4 March BOM blocks
  8. Sew March Monthly Color Challenge block
  9. Check on Sewing Machine at shop.

That should keep me out of trouble for the two weeks until I can do To Do Tuesday again. Next Tuesday I hope to be zipping around the Seattle area being a tourist!

Wrap Up

Quote

They say the rain is finally done here but it’s still been nippy with the highs only in the 50s. While I am not ready for blistering heat, I sure would welcome maybe some 60s and 70s weather here in San Jose.

For my online course with Bonnie Christine – Immersion, it has been going well. I am working at my pace not necessarily the speed of the course. This week Module 3 dropped and I am still working on Module 1. Since this is my first exposure to Adobe Illustrator and each module is pretty intense with 4-5 hours of video training per week (not including play time or drawing time), I good with this. I am learning and am excited to be learning. Did you know this is the program that makes SVG files? So many creative aspects to be applied to including machine embroidery, cricuit, glow forge, etc. Vector files are used in a lot of things we use. So excited to learn how to make my own!

I hope everyone has an awesome Easter and remember to enjoy your family time as well as being pleased with where you are!

Happy Easter
