Hello from Lake Tahoe my quilty friends! I arrived for a quilt retreat on Friday at Zephyr Cove Conference Center. The weather was forecasted to be cooler. Instead we have perfect 70’s weather with Sunday reaching a high of 81. It is just gorgeous. Love being feed 3 meals a day with no kitchen duty!

WIP Updates
My week since my trip to the National Quilt Museum (here for details on that trip) have been getting ready for this retreat. With only a few days, it felt like a whirlwind. As usual, I came with way more projects than I will probably ever work on while here. The majority of them are new projects. Let me share with you the couple of WIPs I brought.
EPP: Ruby’s Garden (using Paper Pieces free pattern)
I took a break from the sewing machine before dinner. My friends all meet up in my room (and roomie Mary Elizabeth) to share gifts, wine, and stories. While we were chatting, I worked on block 27 for my Grandmothers Garden double diamond quilt which I call Ruby’s Garden (named after my grandma who made me my wedding quilt). This block happens to be Liberty of London fabrics although most are Lori Holt’s fabric. I am recreating the wedding quilt my grandma made.
I love this quilt my grandma hand cut each hexie with a cardboard template. Hand sewed and hand quilted. I just love it.
Starbright Paisleys Strip Club patten by Cozy Quilt Designs
These last few days I have continued sew strip sets and make twoises, then the four patch, then finally the next round. I am over halfway done with the blocks.
Soon I will start on making the units for the final round.
New Start: Tula Pink’s Fade to Gray using Grayworks line
I have actually finished the three center blocks and am currently working on the setting triangle blocks for the middle of the quilt. The above Puffins are featured in 2 of those very light gray blocks. The center block is a white wolf block which is adorable. I forgot to take pictures to share today.
While the construction of this quilt is simple, keeping track of what fabric goes where is more complicated. I have given myself the rest of today to work on this quilt before jumping to something new.
Weekly To Do List
My focus for the past week was getting everything ready to be here at the quilt retreat. I did pretty good:
- #1 thing: Pack for the Quilt Retreat that began on Sunday
- Pulled projects for the Tahoe quilt retreat
- Started my new quilt project (Fade to Gray) at quilt retreat
- Continued working on Starbright Paisely blocks
- Work on Ruby’s Garden block 27
For next week I hope to do the following (half the time will be at the quilt retreat):
- Finish the center row of Fade to Gray quilt (won’t be able to sew together because it is a diagonal setting)
- Fade to Gray quilt: finish sewing strip sets for the next shade of gray and cut all 160 twosies
- Learn how to make my lunchbox using my Tula Pink kit AND start it
- Start my applique project by Mckenna Ryan: Winter is Coming
- Finish final 4 wedge blocks for the Teal Freelancer Star project
- Work on EPP Super Nova block 1-1
- Work on EPP Rubys Garden block 27
- Figure out where I am on my 365 block challenge
- Quilt Turkey Lurkey wallhanging
- Quilt Patriotic table runner
- Load 2018 100 blocks in 100 days quilt on long arm
- Sew the zipper in my project bag
- Sew sleeves on my quilt show entries
- make labels for quilt show entries
- order design wall
Musings
This is our little friend group. There was five of us but one of our members passed this year so this is our first time doing the retreat without Teri. She has definitely been missed. It is also our first get together without her. We toasted her as we shared stories about Teri. Most of us met at PIQF in various classes over the years and eventually became friends. Our newest member Robin we met at our very first retreat together. Most months find us having a Friends’ Quilt Zoom Day. Our friend Teri was the original host and Mary Elizabeth has taken the helm so that we can still spend one day a month together. In person is always so much fun.
Next week I will share more details about the quilt retreat itself hosted by Studio B. The retreat itself is at Zephyr Cove, Nevada.
