Welcome back my Quilty Friends! Lots of Happy Mail this week to share. I did more prep work than sewing this week. Which is okay. I am making progress on WIPs and ended up starting another new project.

New Start: Starbright Paisleys – Pattern by Cozy Quilt Designs Strip Club: Starbright
With my last leaders and enders project at an end (Abby Rose Churn Dash), I was filling a little lost not having something by the sewing machine to sew between block steps when needed. Sew…. Things came to a halt while I rummaged through all my project bags looking for something. This project from 2016 came to the top. I seemed to have everything so I spent one day cutting everything.
When I got to it being time to cut the background, I did not like the background fabric I picked 10 years ago (I know, right?!). I spent an hour rummaging through my extensive fabric stash but I could not find anything that just sat right with me. While this is a rainbow, it is pastels and I don’t really have a lot on hand that necessarily works. Everything felt like it was dominating the fabrics and the poor paisleys were slipping to the background. It was determined on Friday night that must mean I needed to make a trip to the quilt store for fabric 😯 (aghast!). My support group also encouraged a trip to my LQS.
I realized that I had not actually been to any of the quilt shops in my area since I moved here a year ago (Did I mention I have an extensive fabric stash?). I went to the quilt shop with the thought I was going to get a white on white blender. I perused through all the whites. Once again nothing sat right with me. Now I am just getting frustrated and wondering why am I being so darn picky. I decided to look at blacks, grays, and tans. Finally I started looking at pastel colors. I quickly realized that even pastels were a problem. The fabric just washed out. I took a deep breath and thought “What pastel colors is NOT represented in my fabrics?” I came up with yellow.
I ended up walking out with this buttery yellow solid fabric (and I just couldn’t resist the teal stripped fabric. I don’t know what I am going to use it for.). Here is the result of that choice.
I think I hit the jackpot! I am totally pleased with the end results. Yesterday I cut all the background and today I got back to SEWING.
WIP Updates
Well with all the distractions of picking a new leaders and enders project, I ended up only working on two WIPs this week.
Autumn Seed Pumpkin Quilt Block 9 by Lori Holt (Bee in my Bonnet)
I was able to finish the last of the pumpkin blocks today. I have started reading the in setting instructions. I actually like how this quilt is set so will probably follow the instructions.
It’s not a great picture, but this is the layout and I like it.
Tula Pink Super Nova EPP quilt in Floral Reef colored by Pink Door Fabrics
Only worked on it a couple of nights but decided to attach my first star and black spacer then made another star. It won’t be long and this one will not fit in my project bag.

What got done this week:
- Found a new leaders and enders project and prepped it
- Finished Autumn Seed Block 9
- Worked on Tula Pink Floral Reef Super Nova blk 1-1
This week’s To Do List:
- Prep for Saturday Workshop using the above ruler…. Class gifted to me by Sharleen Rainville. Not something I would have chosen to go to but I think I can pull together 4 yards of fabric from my stash
- Pull and cut fabrics for August Monthly Color Challenge (Tans)
- Figure out where I am on my 365 block challenge and cut one block
- Quilt Turkey Lurkey wall hanging
- Quilt Patriotic Table Runner
- Work on TO\P Floral Reef Super Nova blk 1-1
- Start Ruby’s Garden blk 27
- Load 2018 100 days quilt on long arm
- Sew the zipper on my project bag
- Load more fabrics on bolts
- Order Design Wall

Musings
Why is it whenever I want to really focus and get something done, my favorite assistance is on hand to help every step of the way? Since I took this photo, she has stuck her face in mine and chatted with me about how it is dinner time. Obviously, I am not in charge here. She is.
