I gave some serious consideration to not putting this blog under the Quilt Diary label but decided screw it. I’ve been living in a world of secrets for the past 15 months. You know how some of you have secret sewing, I had secret business deal in the works. It finally came out in the open on March 2nd when we announced our company was being sold and the deal was closed on March 11th. I am officially self-employed now. The past two weeks have been high stress, emotional, and ton of work. I have worked 12 hour days for 12 days straight which left zero time to quilt and I mean ZERO. This has been the hardest part of the past two weeks as I use quilting to keep my sanity. While it has been three weeks since I posted a blog, not a lot of things have happened in my quilting world due to work life. So let’s see if I can get you updated on the good stuff! Quilt Diary: October One Monthly Goal
I missed my September One Monthly Goal, so I am resetting that same goal for October. I will finish 4 Halloween placemats. I was defeated by my sewing machine last month. Of course if I had not waited til the last week to press forward, it would have been a non issue. I just need to finish free motion quilting and binding these cute placemats. I am linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. Quilting these 4 placemats are this week’s #onethingwithAmy goal as well.

Quilt Diary: A Year In Words-Autumn Finish for Quarter 3 FAL 2019
Woohoo! Finally wrapped up this project that has been in my sewing room for over a year. It felt good to hang it on the wall yesterday. I absolutely love the hanger I purchased from Ackfeld Manufacturing a month ago. I did not realized that the leaves were colored until I took it out of the package. So nice! My larger series, I usually buy one hanger for the series. I haven’t decided if I will continue using this hanger for the whole series. I originally bought the WELCOME hanger for this series but decided it was too many words. We shall see. For now, I am very pleased at the end result! Here are a few more photos of the final process this week.

Quilt Diary: Mama Gypsy Update
Hi Everyone! I finally finished all the blocks for the Mama Gypsy Quilt QAL that ended August 31st. I liked this pattern and it is a great way to show off some special focus fabric. This pattern was tooted a fat quarter friendly pattern, but I would have to disagree with that. Yes you can use fat quarters, but do not expect to use just fat quarters and the background fabric for this entire quilt. With the challenges of fabric placement that I faced in this pattern, I would be inclined to use fat quarters for all the large area blocks with some fat quarters from a fat quarter set, but the accents and diamonds that are formed, that is questionable. I did not have enough diversity in one fat quarter bundle to do this nor could one fat quarter cut all four triangles. Now pulling from your stash, that is a real possibility to use all fat quarters. I ended up using my half-yard bundle to get a satisfactory layout. I am very happy with my layout. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: Mama Gypsy Update”
Quilt Diary: Blooming Series – Apples finish
Woohoo! I surprised myself with getting this finish done last night. It really helped walking through the steps on Wednesday with you guys. It gave me a plan and a focus which everyone knows is sometimes a wee bit challenging for me. Squirrel! Thursday night I was agonizing over how I was going to quilt this. I awoke on Friday with inspiration from the fabric for this one. Quilting a 11 x 20 wall hanging is easy compared to quilting a queen-size quilt I guess. I have been so focused on piecing bed size quilts that I have not really done very many small projects. Practice does make you better that is for sure! So here are a few closeups of the Blooming Apples.

Quilt Diary: A look back on June and 2nd Quarter and reset for July and 3rd Quarter Goals
Sadly, the only project I finished second quarter was my Strawberry mug rugs in May. I just can’t seem to be disappointed with all the progress I did make on my projects. They just didn’t get finished. I didn’t even finish my June One Monthly Goal with Elm Street. But oh the progress I have made! I think Quarter 3 will be a big quarter for finishes.

It is hard to believe it is June already. I keep thinking I am going to get some large amount of free time. Haha! I am living in a fantasyworld, right?

Just an update on my projects I worked on this past weekend while in Salt Lake for my grandson Shaun’s hockey tournament. Most of the weekend was spent watching hockey but we did manage to go to Utah’s Natural History Museum. I so forgot how 11 year olds zoom through at light speed. Where I would have dwaddle for several hours, we were done in two hours.
