How has your January been? Here in California we have had the strangest weather. You may recall that last week we had sunny days in the high 70’s. It began to rain on Friday and hasn’t stopped. We had temperatures drop below freezing over the weekend. Crazy indeed!

Quilt Diary: What’s Under My Needle to wrap up August
I’m going for shorter post today and just going to talk about what I have been working on this week. Like most of you, I have very productive weeks and not so much other weeks. This is a middle of the road week. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: What’s Under My Needle to wrap up August”
Quilt Diary: Going on a Picnic and other Sew-a-long Updates
It is hard to believe that we are now in the last week of July. Where did the month go? I kept thinking I was going to post every week. LOL! That never happened. Realistically the writing gets done, it is the photography that is lagging behind. This time around I thought I could do a follow-up on all of my Sew-a-Longs.
It feels weird not participating in the 100 days 100 blocks this year as I have done it the last two summers. I still have 2018 and 2019 to assemble. Plus it is not a new pattern this year. It takes a lot of effort to do a block every day although 100 days is easier than 365 days. For 2020, I am sticking with some easier sew-a-longs so I can get caught up. Is that an oxymoron? Quilt Diary: June Goals and Update
I started a blog two months ago and never published it. I apologize for my inconsistency these past few months. I will try and close the gap and not make this too long of a blog. I have been busy with my projects as well as work and home.

Quilt Diary: February 2020 Goals
Time flies by! It has already been another week. I thought I could update you on what I have been doing this week towards my February goals. Even though this is a big travel month, I do also have some home time. I think it will end up being a very balanced month. My daughter is coming for a visit next week. She is going to watch Shaun play hockey next weekend and come home with us. Then her boyfriend will be flying up and the two of them will be skiing for a week. When she gets back, Shaun and I will be gone to another hockey tournament. Including this weekend, that is 3 weekends of hockey, hockey, hockey. There is only one weekend without hockey and luckily Caitlin will be here.
On to quilting….. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: February 2020 Goals”
Quilt Diary: January Challenges Updates
I’m sitting in sunny Kissimmee, Florida this morning. It is 77F here with a slight breeze. A perfect day. Unfortunately, due to hockey, we do not get to take advantage of it. We have a game this afternoon and we can’t have the twelve year old running around using up all his energy. I brought my computer out to the lanai (no wait I’m in Florida so I mean patio) to stare out at the gorgeous weather and start this blog update. Back home in San Jose, CA, it is 42F and raining. I am definitely in the better spot! Continue reading “Quilt Diary: January Challenges Updates”
Quilt Diary: October One Monthly Goal
I missed my September One Monthly Goal, so I am resetting that same goal for October. I will finish 4 Halloween placemats. I was defeated by my sewing machine last month. Of course if I had not waited til the last week to press forward, it would have been a non issue. I just need to finish free motion quilting and binding these cute placemats. I am linking up with Patty at Elm Street Quilts. Quilting these 4 placemats are this week’s #onethingwithAmy goal as well.
Quilt Diary: A Year In Words-Autumn Finish for Quarter 3 FAL 2019
Woohoo! Finally wrapped up this project that has been in my sewing room for over a year. It felt good to hang it on the wall yesterday. I absolutely love the hanger I purchased from Ackfeld Manufacturing a month ago. I did not realized that the leaves were colored until I took it out of the package. So nice! My larger series, I usually buy one hanger for the series. I haven’t decided if I will continue using this hanger for the whole series. I originally bought the WELCOME hanger for this series but decided it was too many words. We shall see. For now, I am very pleased at the end result! Here are a few more photos of the final process this week.

Quilt Diary: Mama Gypsy Update
Hi Everyone! I finally finished all the blocks for the Mama Gypsy Quilt QAL that ended August 31st. I liked this pattern and it is a great way to show off some special focus fabric. This pattern was tooted a fat quarter friendly pattern, but I would have to disagree with that. Yes you can use fat quarters, but do not expect to use just fat quarters and the background fabric for this entire quilt. With the challenges of fabric placement that I faced in this pattern, I would be inclined to use fat quarters for all the large area blocks with some fat quarters from a fat quarter set, but the accents and diamonds that are formed, that is questionable. I did not have enough diversity in one fat quarter bundle to do this nor could one fat quarter cut all four triangles. Now pulling from your stash, that is a real possibility to use all fat quarters. I ended up using my half-yard bundle to get a satisfactory layout. I am very happy with my layout. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: Mama Gypsy Update”
