Coming to you from Denver today. On the road for hockey with my grandson Shaun. We are in day 2 of this tournament. We have played so very physical teams and hard teams. We managed to squeak out a win 3 out of 3 games. Playoffs start this afternoon so I thought I would squeeze in a quick post between games since I didn’t post anything on Wednesday. And that would be because Sunday the washer died and I ended up running around all over town to get a new washer and dryer by Wednesday so we could finish washing clothes for hockey. Very little sewing really happened at the sewing machine. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: SAL Update”

Quilt Diary: A Year In Words-Autumn Finish for Quarter 3 FAL 2019
Woohoo! Finally wrapped up this project that has been in my sewing room for over a year. It felt good to hang it on the wall yesterday. I absolutely love the hanger I purchased from Ackfeld Manufacturing a month ago. I did not realized that the leaves were colored until I took it out of the package. So nice! My larger series, I usually buy one hanger for the series. I haven’t decided if I will continue using this hanger for the whole series. I originally bought the WELCOME hanger for this series but decided it was too many words. We shall see. For now, I am very pleased at the end result! Here are a few more photos of the final process this week.

Quilt Diary: Mama Gypsy Update
Hi Everyone! I finally finished all the blocks for the Mama Gypsy Quilt QAL that ended August 31st. I liked this pattern and it is a great way to show off some special focus fabric. This pattern was tooted a fat quarter friendly pattern, but I would have to disagree with that. Yes you can use fat quarters, but do not expect to use just fat quarters and the background fabric for this entire quilt. With the challenges of fabric placement that I faced in this pattern, I would be inclined to use fat quarters for all the large area blocks with some fat quarters from a fat quarter set, but the accents and diamonds that are formed, that is questionable. I did not have enough diversity in one fat quarter bundle to do this nor could one fat quarter cut all four triangles. Now pulling from your stash, that is a real possibility to use all fat quarters. I ended up using my half-yard bundle to get a satisfactory layout. I am very happy with my layout. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: Mama Gypsy Update”
Quilt Diary: Sept 2019 One Monthly Goal
September is here and it is time to linkup with Elm Street Quilts for the One Monthly Goal. I have been thinking about this for the last few days wondering what I should commit to. Thinking about what is close to being done and I just need a little push. I narrowed down to four possibilities: Schoolhouse mug rugs, Blooming Pansies, Autumn wall hanging, or pulling out my Halloween/October placemats. The verdict is: Halloween/October placemats! It is time to pull them out of the closet and finish them up. So I am committing to making four October placemats with my purple, black, and orange kitty fabric. See above for sample. Quilt Diary: Blooming Series – Apples finish
Woohoo! I surprised myself with getting this finish done last night. It really helped walking through the steps on Wednesday with you guys. It gave me a plan and a focus which everyone knows is sometimes a wee bit challenging for me. Squirrel! Thursday night I was agonizing over how I was going to quilt this. I awoke on Friday with inspiration from the fabric for this one. Quilting a 11 x 20 wall hanging is easy compared to quilting a queen-size quilt I guess. I have been so focused on piecing bed size quilts that I have not really done very many small projects. Practice does make you better that is for sure! So here are a few closeups of the Blooming Apples.

Quilt Diary: Sew-A-Long Updates
I don’t have any new finishes since Saturday. It’s Hockey Wednesday and I am hanging out at my favorite blogging place – Starbucks – while Shaun is at practice. Work is extremely busy right now and looks like it will not let up until October. Despite that, I feel like I am currently in control. I will get a bit more stitching/blogging time now that Shaun is with me more days during the school week (his school is across the street). We have 6am practice on Mondays and Thursdays now (groan) and Tuesday/Wednesday practices. I only bring him on Wednesdays most time. Our first tournament is this weekend so I am trying to figure out how I am going to work in my quilting. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: Sew-A-Long Updates”
Quilt Diary: Sunflower Wooly Mug Rug Finish-Better late than never
This week found me wrapping up the sunflower wooly mug rugs which I have been working on for weeks! It feels good to finish them up but I find myself behind with my schoolhouse wooly mug rug. I am linking up the Sunflower Wooly Mug Rugs with Capitola Quilter for another third quarter finish in October. Hard to believe this is my 6th finish for the quarter. See the original list here. Quilt Diary: Apples A-door-naments Finish!
The trend continues. Another machine applique finished up that has been in process for months. It feels good to finish my final goal for my A-door-naments this quarter. The Apples one is for September and was fun! The cute new hangers from Ackfeld Mfg came in today so you get to see it with its cute hanger! So August is up and I am total prepared for September and October.

Quilt Diary: Another Finish! – Jack ‘O Lantern A-door-nament Wall Hanging
You may have recalled at the end of second quarter finishalong that I was close to many finishes but only one finish. Because of all that progress last quarter, it is the catalyst for all the finishes this quarter. Hmmm. Something to keep in mind when I get down on myself for not finishing anything, right? Quilt Diary: Outdoor Patio Tablecloth finish!
I wanted to share my tablecloth that I made for my daughter’s outdoor patio table. I mentioned last time, I decided to put batting in because it was outside. It is a double-sided tablecloth (or topper). The above model’s name is Ozzie and he 100% approved the new table topper! I will be linking this 3rd quarter finish up with Capitola Quilter for the 2019 Finish-a-long. My original list can be found here. Continue reading “Quilt Diary: Outdoor Patio Tablecloth finish!”
