To Do Tuesday #15

Welcome Back! I just got back from a vacation to Washington state which included camping at Olympic National Park on Lake Crescent. I am getting too old to be sleeping on the ground and being such a long ways from the bathroom. It’s amazing how inconvenient it is to have to go potty multiple times during the night. Luckily my tent mates were too tired to hear me zipping in and out of the tent multiple times during the night. LOL!

I am so happy I went though. It was gorgeous. I haven’t been to Olympic since I was in high school and lived in Tacoma. I couldn’t go on the 8 mile hikes with the kiddos so I had to struggle through my own mile hikes. Loved spending time in nature and with family. Smores!!! Yum!

While I know it has been three weeks since I posted, I didn’t get much on my prior list done even with having a sew day with my quilty friends.

To Do List 14 accomplishments
  1. Green inner border was sewn onto the Sunshine Quilt.
  2. Finished removing both borders from my Charming Sunflower quilt.
  3. Cut new black border for inner border for Charming Sunflower quilt.
  4. Finished sewing Clue 5 of the Cotton Cuts Olympia Mystery quilt.
  5. Pulled and cut Mustard fabric for the June Monthly Color Challenge.
  6. Sewed a total of three 365 quilt block challenge blocks- June 14, 15, & 16th.
Accomplishments NOT on my To Do List

See what happens when I go too long without updating my to do list. All of a sudden I have new projects on there that weren’t there before. LOL!!!

  1. Deconstructed an old wall hanging I made in early 2000’s. I don’t like how it droops when I hang it up. I recently discovered a new stabilizer used for making tote bags that I am going to try out on it. If it works like I hope, then I will probably deconstruct all of them as I put them out each month.
  2. Started sewing twosies (is this even a word?) with one low volume plus one aqua 2 1/2 square together between steps instead of sewing two blocks/projects at same time. I have no idea right now what I will do with them but it was fun going through my scrap bins. Right now it will be a future serendipity project of some kind. I can easily envision and entire quilt or maybe a border for some lucky quilt.

Week 15 (June 21st – June 27th, 2022)

The other thing I have noticed: I have been neglecting maintenance items in my sewing studio. So you will see a number of items added to this week’s list to help remind me I need to do these. I’ve tried the once a month or every week day thing. I am way to forgetful. Plus I am such a list person! I am going to even start adding it in my Quilt Journal where I list each month’s projects!

To Do #1 – Quilt my Mystery Quilt – Name of the Rose

Okay this has been on the list way too long. I am so tired of see it here. So I zoomed in on this to discover why it is not happening. As I am still not super comfortable with my Gammill long arm, I find myself procrastinating filling bobbins and changing the needle. The quilt itself is loaded and I have a pattern picked out to quilt. So I am adding to my to do list my maintenance items to get this quilt done!

Name of the Rose quilt top
To Do #2 – Wind Purple bobbins
To Do #3 – Change Needle on Gammill Long Arm
To Do #4 – Make Label for Name of Rose Quilt
To Do #5 – Quilt February Heart Table Runner
Loaded Rose quilt and February table runner

This is loaded using the same backing as the Rose Quilt. I was originally going to try and quilt at the exact same time, but instead I am going to quilt the table runner once I finish quilting the quilt just to make sure I still have enough backing. This will be a one – two punch when it finally happens.

To Do #6 – Design Second Border for Sunshine Quilt
Sunshine quilt with inner border

My head still is spitting out all kinds of ideas for this border. It is kind of fun, but I do want to make sure I get it done soon so it can be quilted soon.

To Do #7 – Start Clue #6 of the Cotton Cuts Mystery Quilt Olympia
Olympia Clue 5

I pulled this out once I finished with clue 5. I have been focusing on my 365 blocks but this is sitting on the sewing table.

To Do #8 – Add NEW inner border on Charming Sunflowers
Deconstructed Charming Sunflower quilt

I am so excited about the new planned finish for this quilt. I am totally going off my rocker on this. I don’t actually have a pattern. The original block was a MSQC Jenny Doan block. It is an awesome way to showcase fabric. Unfortunately this line only had four colors and it has made the finishing very challenging.

To Do #9 – Finish EPP block 19 of My Lost & Found quilt project
Quilt
Progress block 19 Lost & Found bloch

With us being out of hockey season, I haven’t been traveling as much nor have I been hanging out at the rink much. This is normally my EPP time as evenings I usually work on cross stitch projects. I took it on the camping trip, but then I didn’t feel comfortable pulling it out. So this project has not moved forward. Shaun (my hockey player) stayed in Seattle with his Auntie and won’t be home until July so I have to deliberately plan a time to spend on it. Maybe I will go back to 15 minutes a night like I use to….

To Do #10 – Sew 2 – 365 blocks

I have cut and ready to sew block June 17th. I also want to get block June 18th done as well. I am currently making 6 inch blocks. June 16th had close to 70 pieces and took me almost two hours to sew. It is hard for me to stay focused on such complicated blocks. I don’t know how anyone could do one of these a day. You would literally not get anything else done.

To Do #11 – Change my Rotary Blade
To Do #12 – Cut 4 more 365 blocks

I have 4 design boards that I lay out the blocks on. Two are empty and I plan to empty the other two so I can cut June 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st this week. I finally have my fabric stash organized!

To Do #13 – Sew June Monthly Color Challenge block
June fabric selection

I loved my fabrics. I just not sure if there is enough contrast.

To Do #14 – Re-Sew May Day Wall Hanging
Machine Embrodiery May Day wall hanging deconstructed

This is the project that I deconstructed before I went camping. I am anxious to see if the new stabilizer will work. Over the years, it just droops more and more and I hate it. Keep your fingers crossed.

That’s a Wrap

Well that finishes up my list for today. I need to take a few pictures for you before I post. I will be linking up with Linda at Texas Quilt Gal this week for To Do Tuesday.

  1. Looks like Simba is resting on the pressing mat just like my kitties do! Your camping trip sounds fun, and I relate to the getting up in the middle of the night issues. I like the term “twosies”. 😀 Good luck with your list!
Thank you for sharing with us at To Do Tuesday!
