Welcome back Quilty Friends! It has been a productive week and I am excited to share what I have done! I do plan to link up with Carol @ Quilt Schmilt for To Do Tuesday. Check it out!

Another New Start

On the Harvest Moon Shop Hop, we collected blocks. The six inch blocks were free, but I decided to get the twelve inch blocks so I could make something useful.
There are seven blocks from the shop hop stores. Their website shows a finish with nine blocks. It is intereting that 4 of the 7 seven stores used orange/red fabrics and three used other colors (blue, purple, green). I purchased some teal that I loved. I noticed that all the blocks used the same stained glass fabric so I picked some more of that as well as the black. The finishing instructions have a sashing and I think I will go with teal for that. We will see how I end up finishing this. But here is the first two blocks.
WIP Updates
While I cut, sewed, and ironed three days this past week, I didn’t finish everything yet. Let me show you what I did finish.
Starbright Paisleys: A Cozy Quilts Strip Club Pattern

Finished the last of my four patches this week which is super exciting. I actually do not have that many Round 2 blocks left to do. I believe this 16 left to do. Then I will be moving on to the next step which is more involved with a lot of stitch and flip.
Tula Pink Fade To Gray

Finished one of each of these with one more of each left to go! I have the long side patchwork sewn together. I just need to assemble these last two blocks for the light medium rows.

Meanwhile, I have been sewing the strip sets together for the medium dark rows. I have cut the first 80 twoies which is just over half (need 156). Once this colorway blocks are done, I will start assembling the short side patchwork for the blocks. While I am waiting, I will continue sewing & cutting strip sets.
October Monthly Color Challenge

This month’s block was a simple block. I thought it was hilarious that I put it together wrong not once, but twice. Still I didn’t get my directional fabric right. I gave up. I do love the little scarbs who are scooting across the ovals. Love the oranges that I picked from my Alison Glass fabric collection.
Alison Glass Color Study QAL

Speaking of Alison Glass fabric, I am still behind two blocks. Here is the second completed block using a very light and a muted with a medium pinkish purple. I have printed out block 3 and about five minutes ago I printed out block 4 which came out on Friday. I am definitely going to throw in some black into this mix so I will end up making each block in a light colorway and a dark colorway. I looked at the week 4 block and it is the same pattern that I just made for the Shop Hop.
Quilt Guild Block Challenge – Moda Blockheads 6

While the construction of this block was not hard, picking 5 different greens was a bit challenging. In some cases, I feel like there is not enough contrast. Oh well. I have time to get one or two more blocks done before the guild meeting in November. It was nice having the pattern in adavance. I laid out the colors the same as moda (light ->dark). Next time I might change it up for a different look.

Musings
I made it to Home Depot last week and purchased ONE shelf to put in the sewing room closet to see if it will work as envisioned. I even carried it upstairs. Now I need to assemble the shelf and start culling the kits to put in the closet. I will try using the bins that I already own to hold the kits. We shall see how that works. I will attempt to make a master list of all my kits. I am toying with adding a column for shelf & bin numbers so I can locate them when the time comes. Hmmm. Sounds good. Let’s see what reality brings. LOL! 🐿️
I would love to be able to organize all of my WIPs into my Ikea Cubicles for easy access. Maybe that Master List would be good for it too with same concept. I will have a lot of bins at my disposal since I plan to take my fabric stash OUT of bins and put them on some kind of bolt system so that I can SEE my fabric.
I also ordered some computer labels and bin labels to see which ones will work on the bins (and fabrics). I have been using repositionable labels but they just fall off so not good for long term use. For my new Alison Glass project, I have to label all 84 fabrics so things don’t take so long to cut. I have a reference sheet, but there is a lot of time spent going back and forth. The second project will be easier, because Nancy Rink labeled each fabric with a quadrant and number (i.e. A1, B10, C20, D30, etc). With my Tula Pink Super Nova, I spend alot of time looking at the reference sheet as well. I have attempted to label the fabric what it is, but it eventually falls off. With bolts, I could potentially put the fabric name or mfg reference number on them…. We shall see.
Happy Mail
Happy mail is on the way here. Tula Pink Legendary has shipped and I got notification that my cotton fabric, lawn fabric, as well as my quilt kit are headed out the door. Very exciting. I received some quarterly and month BOM’s that I am not currently working on. They will be going in the “kit” area.
Speaking of which…While shop hopping, I found the perfect border fabric for a quilt top that I finished in April this year. I haven’t been thrilled with it and have been thinking of making it the back of the quilt instead of the front. I haven’t decided I like the panels better and may make a panel quilt top to finish it off. Plus I just saw some cool fabric and just bought it. I bought a yard and can only hope I can do something with a yard…..
Alright. I am done. The rain has officially started here in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) which makes it officially quilting season right? I am off to do something creative. You have a great day and I look forward to sharing with you next week!
