How is everyone’s August going? Here in San Jose the kids are back in school already. The colleges start up in another couple of weeks. I feel like there is so much summer left. Where did the days go when school didn’t start until after Labor Day.
Starts & Finishes
I worked my way through my new starts for August this week. I wasn’t sure if I was going to make all of them since I was in and out all week. Busy. Busy. Busy.
START: August Celebration from Year of Celebration by Hands on Design
I enjoyed this cute project. I can’t wait until the sunflowers are done! This is stitched on 16 ct dirty aida with called for floss (Gentle Arts, Weeks Dye Works, & Classic Colorworks).
START: Hello August from Hello There by Hands on Design
When I was pulling the DMC for this one I was thinking DMC 318 was gray but it is more of a gray lavender. Interesting color needless to say. This is being stitched on 16 ct white aida with the called for DMC floss.
START: August Sampler (of the Month) by Country Cottage Needleworks
I don’t remember why I got side tracked with this series. There is only 3 (including this one) left. I don’t remember this series being too much to stitch. We are on it now. This is being stitched on 16 ct beige aida with called for Classic Colorworks floss.
WIPGO START: Mr. August ~ A Calendar Gnome by Charlie’s Needle
I have loved every gnome I have stitched in this series but they are a bit intense. This one will be no different. Take a look:
I feel like I have got a nice start going. I am stitching on Antique White 28 ct lugana with the called for flosses – DMC, Classic Colorworks, Weeks Dye Works, & Gentle Arts. I loved the fact that she is using 3 shades of green , yellow, and red. It really adds a lot to the dimension of the project but it’s a challenge to stitch.
FINISH: Summer Basket (chart 3) by Hands on Design
WooHoo! I finished the 3rd of this series. They are so adorable. Now to make them into cute little pillows. Not sure what color I did. Thinking this is a 16 ct flax aida but not sure. All flosses are DMC. Here is the other two:
WIP Updates
With all the new starts and the push to finish Summer Baskets series, I didn’t have a lot of time to work on WIPs. Here are the two that I did work on.
WIPGO: Tea Thyme by It’s Sew Emma (FQS)
I was pleased to finish off the final touches to the cup & saucer and over the top to finish the “Spring”. So I decided to start on the bird next. He looks a little weird right now but is shaping up well.
Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embrodiery
I love how this is coming along. I can’t help feeling a little excited that I am almost half way done. I went to download the next 6 months pages fromt he stitchalong and my link was broken. I emailed Jacob at MFE and he was quick to send me the info to redownload the. ENTIRE pattern. So instead of having 12 pages I will have only 9. Will that make it go faster? I have no idea. Once I finish the June page I will switch to the new pattern. Isn’t it just cool.
Upcoming Plans & Thoughts
Now that I have all my August starts done, it will be time to focus on finishing the small ones and working on my WIPGO projects. I am looking at my planned calendar for this next week and I have that I will be working on:
- The Needleworker (Snowman Collector #1)
- Finishing Hello August
- Sail Away
- Prim Stitch
- June Truckin Along
- June Calendar Crates
- August Celebration
- August Sampler
- Tea Thyme
- Mr August
Hmmm. That looks like a lot for seven days. Oh well! Sometimes, I just need to work on it even for an hour. I find that I can come up with lots of reasons not to work on something unless I have that 15 minutes every day attitude.
I ended up with lots of happy mail this week. My Stitching with the Housewives Season Quarterly came as well as the August Stackables. Plus the next installment in Seaside Village by Country Cottage Needleworks.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Simba looks exhausted from supervision! That August gnome does look intense, but oh so cute. I really love gingham in cross stitch, and the colors are pretty awesome. Hope you have a great weekend Peggy!
