Floss Friday #15

Welcome to another Friday where we look at all things stitchy – cross stitch anyways. I have been diligently working on my upcoming finishing class project and have my fingers crossed that I will actually finished in time. I had hoped to have both sheets of perforated paper stitched. Close, but not close enough.

Starts

No new starts this week although I am anxious to get started on Let’s Talk Summer.

Finishes

No new finishes this week either.

Final Finishes!!!!

Woohoo I have my very first Final Finish. So excited and inspired about the finishing class I have coming up in October that I have been watching a ton of finishing videos. While pulling out my “September” stitches to display, I decided to finish up one.

Hey Pumpkin! Pillow

This stitch was a Stitch Quarterly project from 2020. I’ve know for a while that I wanted to make this into a pillow cover for some 12 x 16 pillows on my couch. I discovered my original design book where I wrote the receipe down last weekend. But I made a huge assumption which cost me a day. That is what I get for not READING my instructions. I assumed the pillow pattern I designed were 2.5 inch squares but they were really 3 inch squares finishing 2.5 inches. So I cut my stitched project too small and ended up having to sew what I cut off back on.

I picked out a mini charm pack that is fall fabric called Kitty Korn which I had some matching fat quarters for. It wasn’t exactly what I originally imagined, but now that it is done, I love the subtle colors very much. So after getting the squares sewn together, I began the process of attaching the square to my trimmed 6.5 inch square stitchery. This is when I discovered my oops! It was not lining up nor covering the pillow adequately. I pulled out my handy dandy ruler and actually measured the squares on the existing pillow cover. Oops!

I set it aside for the evening and sketched out what I thought I needed to do to complete the project and what I would do the next time. While doing the next time sketch, it became quite evident to me, that I should just execute next time this time. (Was that confusing?) I would have less math and a better looking project if I sewed my aida back together and cut a 8.5 inch square instead. So I did! Here is the result:

Works In Progress

While I did focus on my Class Project, I did work on some small details on other projects.

HOD Class Project

Here is what I have finished so far. Completed perforated paper number 1 with its two charts and have started perforated paper number 2

May Calendar Crates by Stitching with the Housewives
Center of Main May Calendar Crate finished. Working on sign

I finally finished the center of the main project and got a nice start on the sign and side borders.

June Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks
Center of June Samoler done. Started top Border 1

Finally finished the center of this project and started on border 1. As always, I just love these colors!

Upcoming

This weekend is a hockey weekend but at least it is in our home town and we get to sleep in our own beds. I am anticipating on finishing HOD perforated paper and starting on the small linen this week as well as hopefully finishing up Feels Like Home. Not sure if there will be time for anything else. If there is, then I will squeeze in some time on Summer Baskets.

Simba

Once again my big guy Simba is snoozing on the keyboard. I already had to scotch the mouse and mousepad out from under him so I could finish today. Don’t know why he thinks he should be this close.

Happy Stitching everyone!

  1. Peggy your cross stitch projects are beautiful. Your pillow finished very pretty and looks good with Mr Gnome. What are the perforated papers for? Simba is so handsome and such a good assistant.
