Cross Stitch Diary: February 2022

Still in catch up mode. This week we will take a sneak peek at my February projects so far. I participated in an instagram #stitchthewinterolympics which was fun if a little limiting. But sometimes you just have to change it up. That means a few projects I had intended on working on for the month have not even been started. With less than week left in February, I do want to get started on those projects. I will share next week with all of you.

February Start & Finish

Barn Sweet Barn – February (A Lori Holt pattern)
Nala & February Barn Sweet Barn finish

I was able to start this year long series on February 1st. I worked on it for four days straight so I could finish it up. It was fun choosing my pinks for the month and stitching out this quilt block.

February Starts so far

Just My Type (It’s Sew Emma by FQS)
Just My Type progress

I have a total of five starts this month, but so far only started Barn Sweet Barn and Just My Type. I purchased the pattern last year but never got this one started because I had continued to work on other stuff. It was fun to use my own fabrics (14 ct Fabric Flair Antique Sage dyed effect) and pulled all Weeks Dye Works from my stash. I have some beautiful colors I am using:

  • Red -> WDW Turkish Red
  • Dk Pink -> WDW Peony
  • Lt Pink -> WDW Sophia’s Pink
  • Mint -> WDW Meadow
  • Dk Teal -> WDW Islamorada
  • Lt Teal -> WDW Lagoon
  • Gray -> WDW Blackboard
  • White -> WDW Parchment

February Works in Progress so far

Shabby Winter Calendar (Cuoree Batticuore)

I finished up Day 5 of this ongoing project. I have hopes of finishing up Day 6 this month but does not seem likely.

Santa Baby (Fat Quarter Shop Quarterly 2020)

I continue plugging away at this project. I am close to finishing but I get bored stitching just white. I only worked on this once this month and don’t anticipate working on it anymore this month.

January Truckin Along (Stitching With the Housewives)
January Truckin Along Progress

I absolutely have loved stitching this one. I was able to use this one for quite a few days during #stitchthewinterolympics. I have high hopes of finishing this one this next week.

Snow Balls For Sale (a Lori Holt patttern by It’s Sew Emma)

I was able to squeeze in only one day on this one this month. I finished the wheel of the wheelbarrow and outlined the rest.

Janaury Calendar Crates (large piece) (Stitching with the Housewives)
January Calendar Crates main piece progress

This is another project that fit nicely with the #stitchthewinterolympics. I got a good 5 days in on this project. Just a reminder that I am a slow stitcher. I was able to complete the center of the project and start on the sign and one of the snowman for the lower portion. I felt really good on my progress but might have been a little ambitious in what I could get done this month.

I had hoped to finish four words but so far have only finished Snowman and Blizzard this month. I am definitely loving this piece.

Let’s Talk Autumn (medium) progress

I had to pull out this piece for the #stitchthewinterolympics. There was one day you needed to work on a fall or halloween project so I pulled this one out. Loved being able to finish up my acorns.

Prim Stitch (a Lori Holt pattern by It’s Sew Emma)

Another project that fit multiple times into the #stitchthewinterolympics. Despite not meeting my monthly goal for this one, I am feeling awesome as I have officially hit the halfway mark on this project that I began in 2020. I have caught up the border for the first half and got a nice start on block 7’s border.

Fruit of Plenty (Modern Folk Embroidery 2021 SAL project)

Last year I wanted to do something more traditional and came across this designer. I am enjoying this stitch but it definitely was my first multi-page project (1 page per month) as well as first sampler. It’s not a picture in the truest sense of the word but a flowing design with elements that you can switch out to customize.

I tried stitching a design element across pages and that lead to many mistakes and frogging. Watching others on Instagram I slowly came to understand that it is actually easier to stitch the page. So this year, I am trying to catch up with each page that I started last year. I was ecstatic when I finally finished page 1 (January). I moved onto page 2 this week and have made considerable progress.

While I do not anticipate finishing page 2 in February, I have high hope of getting pages 2 & 3 done in March. I have also found that stitching on complete strand every night (that I remember) really moves the project forward.

February Recap

I started with 17 WIPS in February. I had 2 new starts(Barn Sweet Barn & Just My Type) and 1 finish (Barn Sweet Barn) to bring me to 18 WIPS as of yesterday. I have 3 WIPS I haven’t worked on in February on my list:

  • Snow Village
  • Christmas Calendar
  • Winter Camper

as well as 3 more starts:

  • Mr February, a Calendar Gnome
  • 2022 Oracle SAL
  • 2022 Heartfelt Charity SAL

for the 5 days left in the month, plus my desired January Truckin Along finish. Sounds like a very busy week coming up.

Still haven’t figured out a good name for Cross Stitch on Thursdays. I am really leaning towards Flossblog. (sigh) I figure something out for my first post in March. In 2022, I also am hoping to have some final finishes. I did actually do one in February but I didn’t like it so I am redoing it before sharing.

Meanwhile, everyone enjoy your day. I hope something here will inspire you.
