QUILT DIARY: Update May 2021

I haven’t had a lot of drive this month to work on things. I have pittered around with a few projects but not my usual focus on getting things done.

As long as I do something every week, I count it a win. So let me show you what I have and haven’t worked on this past month!

Sparkle and Shine Mystery Quilt by Cotton Cuts Update

Clue 4

After catching up last month on my clues for this one, I have been a bit unmotivated. Clue 4 arrived and stares at me waiting to be assembled.

Clue 9 of the Small Team Azul

I finished up clue 9 for Team Azul. Clue 10 arrived for both Team Azul and Team Labrinth, but I am holding off assembling clue 10 until I finish assembling clue 10 of the Rose quilt.

Top & Bottom of Clue 10 in progress

I have been whittling away at assembling the top and bottom. This is 4 parts to the top and bottom. I have completed part 1 and am almost done with part 2 which I will sew together before starting on Part 3 & 4. I really like how it is coming along.

This was the large version which will measure 72×72 inches. I have to admit earlier this week I totally freaked out thinking I had lost the clue 10 pieces that came not realizing that I had already sewn half of them into the center last month. I had to roll my eyes at myself for being so forgetful.

I have also learned, that I really need to label EVERY clue including clue 10. It is easier to assemble if you do. Live and Learn!

Monthly Color Challenge 2021 by Patterns by Jen Update

Fabric pull for May

The color is supposed to be brown so I dug around my yellow/golds for my darkest gold pictured here and then dug around my lights for a cream to use as background. I am sure no matter what I do, this block will just stand out. Before cutting I may reconsider and pull white with gold lines instead. You shall see next month as I will finish this one this weekend.

Placemats, Tablerunners, Napkins, & Potholders

2 of 4 February placemats

I finally started sewing these strips that I had cut back in February. I originally was going to do all four to look like above but decided that I wanted to mix it up some. I am using the same colors but the next two will be two colors only – one light pink with dark red and white with bright pink.

I am not sure how it will end up looking yet. I need to sew the runner too with some of the same fabrics so that it at least goes together. I think I am going to go real simple with just width of fabric runner with strips only – no cutting.

I want to dig around to find some other fabrics I bought way back when to play with for backing, napkins, and potholders. So far I have discovered a light green and dark green but it will not be enough. I am out of dark red and light pink so hopefully I find something to blend….

APQ Resolution Update

May Project

While I would like to say I have been on it this year with these projects but it hasn’t happened. This would be an easy one to finish up as well. I hope to at least finish adding the border. I love this beautiful quilt. I am tired of feeling bad because I am not moving forward. So – Borders is the goal this weekend!

Wrap Up

Nala claiming the rocking chair before running amok in the sewing room.

Not really feeling the mojo in the month of May so my motto is to do something for at least 15 minutes hopefully every day but definitely 3-4 days during the week.

Yesterday this worked well, because once I was sitting at my machine, it was easier to do just another 15 minutes. That is how I made so much progress on Name of the Rose Quilt and the pink placemats.

With more hockey and travel in my future, it will change the dynamics of me and my projects.

On other fronts, my nephew Micah was able to clear all the gaming and furniture out of the corner of my new sewing room. This weekend (or in a few weeks), one of my sitdowns will be going to its new home freeing up another large chunk of space in my studio.

My tax refund finally came this week so I was able to order my new longarm. It will not be here until July or August. Since I will be traveling in July, I am assuming it will not be installed until August – a birthday present for myself.

I hope you found something of use or inspiration this week!

Peggy

  1. Hi Peggy! Lots of us had missing mojo this month (and before). I think that 15 minutes per day will really help you get over the hump. At least, it did for me. Gosh, that the Apq quilt for May is just lovely. Those fabrics!! I hope you are able to get borders on this weekend. But either way, no use making yourself feel badly if you don’t. It’s okay! {{Hugs}} I think you did great for the month. Nala says to join her in the chair! ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. I love the February placemats! Go white with gold lines! You always like patterns.

You are doing fantastic! Beautiful and inspiring work as always! That cat sure is adorable!
