PIQF 2023 Recap

It was evident that the Pacific International Quilt Festival is still being affected by post Covid problems. We almost didn’t have a 2023 show because the venue we have had it at since I started going 20 years ago wasn’t available. New management or something. Fortunately the show organizers were able to work out something for 2023 close to our traditional time in October with the new management, but 2024 will be in July. Due to the fact that the negoitations didn’t finish until late in the year, we were a little light on vendors, classes, and even show hours. But the actual quilt exhibit was great! I felt like it was even bigger than normal. I realized I didn’t really take a lot of pictures. I spent more time ohhing and ahhhing. LOL!

My show buddy, Mary Elizabeth, had a wedding and couldn’t attend the whole show. We meet Wednesday night with other Quilt Show friends (Teri & Toni) for dinner. I ended up doing classes with the other ladies (just happened to pick the same classes which is why we are probably friends). Mary Elizabeth flew back on Saturday and got some show floor time which was great.

A good time was had by all!

What Got Done This Week

With the Quilt Show, most of my time was spent prepping for the show. I pulled out my travel machine and confirmed I had everything I needed. Unfortunately, I should have turned it on before I left the house. It turned on but was making so much noise, I didn’t feel it was safe to use. Lucky for me quilters are great people and I ended up sharing a machine with my neighbor Toni.

Scrappiness is Happiness Neighborhood block

Other than working on class projects Sunday and Monday (see above for current status), I was able to finish the Neighboorhood block from the Scrappiness is Happiness SAL. Before the show I had started (but never finished) a 100 days block as well as continuing to use my Daydreamer project as an leaders/enders project.

Afterthoughts

This was one quilt I found fascinating at the show. First I love that the block is pretty simple construction with 4 Four Patches, 4 Hour Glass, and one square. Then you add that the log cabin has this block as the center with cornerstones between each log. Put together I love the illusion of an Irish Chain with the fascinating pattern made with the placement of the light and dark sides of the block. I could stare at this quilt all day. Just love it! I am trying real hard not to start my own version!
