July just flew by! I can believe how quickly it went. I didn’t feel like I was gone that much but in reality I was gone for half the month. My biggest trip being to Utah for the Gammill Summit for long armers. It was awesome to meet so many people. My creative juices are just flying. So much inspiration!
Today is my daughter Caitlin’s 28th birthday! How quickly time flies!
I will be linking up with Texas Quilt Gal for this week’s To Do Tuesday.
What Got Done!
Most of the month left me unmotivated and I found it hard to work on my lists. I just was not inspired. I finally broke down and started four new quilts. Once I started the ideas have been rolling out of my head.
- 2 patch units turquoise/aqua and white as a leaders and enders project using scraps. My long term goal is to make a 2 color quilt with these blocks. Right now I am just simply sewing up 2 patches.
- A Tula Pink quilt using a Tiny Beasts layer cake and a True Colors jelly roll. The pattern is one I saw on MSQC years ago.
- Abby Rose Churn Dash quilt because I discovered this fat quarter bundle in my stash while organizing my sewing room. It is not my normal fabric buy. I believe I original purchased with the intention of using in my Ruby’s Garden (grandmother garden double diamond hexie pattern) but the flowers are too big to be effective. I designed the quilt with a few supplemental FQ from my stash to get the look I want. I cut all of it using my Block on Board 9″ Churn Dash die from Accuquilt. The whole quilt was cut in maybe 4 hours.
- White Hawaiian Charm quilt is made from a package of 110 – 4.5 inch charms that I picked up in Maui way before Covid. I actually sketched out a design last year and order the white sashing fabric. When I was in Kauai in April, I picked up the border and backing for this quilt. So it was one of my starts this month.
In addition to starting these four quilts I also:
- Sewed June 19th & 20th blocks for my 365 block challenge,
- Cut the 21st and 22nd 365 blocks,
- Sewed July Monthly Color Challenge block,
- Wound my purple bobbins for my Gammill machine, and
- Changed all my rotary blades.
To Do List Week of August 2nd – 8th
I will be on the road for the majority of this week. ( I am doing a road trip from San Jose, CA to Seattle, WA with stops along the way to see family and National Parks). I thought this list would be short, even though I left off a bunch of stuff, it is still long.
To Do #1 – Quilt Name of the Rose Lap Quilt
While I don’t really believe I will have time to finish this in the next two days, I just can’t drop if off the list because what happens if that is what I feel like doing. (Do you see my eye roll? LOL!)
To Do #2 – Label for Name of the Rose
This is for sure a doable one and since I am feeling pretty creative, it might get done…..
To Do #3 – Quilt Heart Table Runner
Same as #1. I don’t really feel like it will happen in next 2 days, but what if?
To Do #4 – Finish Lost & Found block 19
Oh this is so going on the road trip. A matter of fact, I hope I have much to show you since this road trip will be just me and english paper piecing can be so relaxing.
To Do #5 – Sew First Black Border on Charming Sun Flower quilt
Now that I am feeling more inspired, this should be easy peasy! If you missed a blog, you aren’t crazy. I did finish adding the borders to this quilt. It just didn’t feel right so I took them off and cut a different black and have been rethinking the borders. So this is the first step of adding borders again.
To Do #6 – Finish 2 Churn Dash blocks
They are all set and ready to go!
To Do #7 – Sew June 21st 365 block
I have it stacked by the sewing machine ready to go!
To Do #8 – Cut June 23rd & 24th 365 blocks
If I have a cutting day before hitting the road, then maybe this will happen.
To Do #9 – Finish Remake of June Tweet Tree
I would very much like to finish this before I leave just because it will be easier to put away before swapping out all of my wall hangings for August, but I am not betting money on this one. Even though it just needs to be trimmed up a little before being sewed back together.
This was a wall hanging I had finished about five years ago that I took apart because it was drooping and added Soft and Stable instead of batting. Love the new look.
To Do #10 – Sew 10 Tula Pink blocks
If I spend any time in my sewing studio in the next two days, this should be easy peasy! I currently am doing this as a leaders and enders project to get through the blocks.
Wrap Up!
Honestly, I will be thrilled if I even finish 3 or 4 things on my list. I know most of you just don’t get how I do my to do list. My brain doesn’t like only having a few items on a list. It wants options. I swear when I make a more reasonable list, I get nothing done at all. So this works for me.
The reason I had to finally start new quilts were because, if the things on my list are too intense (time or thinking), then I end up doing nothing. I try to include things on my list from different areas of my sewing life, cutting, piecing, quilting, applique (which is currently missing), designing, planning. I just need to know I have options. So here is this week’s very crazy list:
- Quilt Name of Rose quilt
- Make label for Name of the Rose quilt
- Quilt Heart table runner
- Finish EPP block 19 of Lost and Found quilt
- Sew 1st place border on Charming Sunflower quilt
- Sew 2 churn dash blocks
- Sew June 21st 365 block
- Cut 2 more 365 blocks
- Finish remake of June Tweet Trees
- Sew 10 Tula Pink Tiny Beast blocks
Simba was kind enough to throw my mouse off the counter so I would need to purchase a new mouse. The little bugger is always pushing things off the counter. I am sure it won’t be the last thing he breaks. Lol!
I won’t be back in time to participate in next week’s To Do so this list will actually be for two weeks. So maybe I will get more done than I think.
Good luck everyone! I try to read as many posts as I can. You are definitely inspiring. I try to leave notes of encouragement because I always enjoy the ones that you leave me!

I guess you are on your road trip by now? Sounds like fun. Your White Hawaiian Charm quilt looks so interesting, as do all your projects. I have a ginger named Jack who also pushes things off counters! Simba is so cute.
Thank you for sharing with us at To Do Tuesday, and enjoy your road trip!
