QUILT DIARY: Under the Needle in February 2021

Same as in January, I have focused mostly on my free motion quilting and have really neglected my other sewing projects. You throw in a trip to Florida the last week of February and I really shut down my own progress. #sigh I apologize for the week late post.

Are You Game? Mystery Quilt by Cotton Cuts Update

Team Azul clues 7 & 8 (small)

I don’t know how it happened but I’ve fallen behind in this monthly mystery quilt. Since we last talked both clues 7 & 8 have arrived for both the small and large colorways.

I am not sure if I made any progress since my last update on this quilt. It doesn’t feel like it. It’s just hanging around or in the project box below where it is hanging.

Sparkle and Shine Mystery Quilt by Cotton Cuts Start

Team Garnet Small Clue 1

I wasn’t going to do the Spring 2021 Puzzle Mystery Quilt called Sparkle and Shine. I literally resisted until shipping day when I just thought what the heck! I did restrain myself to just doing the small quilt which made me feel better. LOL!

February block cut

I pulled the fabric for the February block but never actually sewed it before I took off for Florida for the last week of February. I printed out March but haven’t done the fabric pull yet. The color for March is orange.

Christmas Advent Wedding Quilt Update (January APQ Resolution Project)

Working on the borders

Work and Hockey really got in the way to finishing this quilt in February. I am down to quilting the two black borders. The inside border is just a quick and easy figure 8 border. I forgot the name everyone calls this. I’m thinking hearts for the final black border. I have to wrap this up and send it in March. It is no longer any other option. My daughter will be moving soon and I don’t know if she will see the couple after the end of the semester.

Placemats, Tablerunners, & Napkins

January

I got all the placemats and napkins cut for January. They just need to be sewn. The big pieces on the left are the back of the placemats and the little ones folded on the left are the napkins ready to be sewn. In the project box is the pieces for the placemats.

February

Why February isn’t sewn is beyond me. I cut all the strips last year. This is setup to be a rail fence design but could be anything. I think I will do the placemats first and see what I have left.

March

While I wasn’t intending to start any new project, I couldn’t help myself cutting up scrappy green 2.5 inch squares and scrappy white 2.5×5 inch rectangles for another mini charm table runner. I loved the last one and I think this will be a great March / Spring runner. I have it setup to sew between other projects just like the November/ Fall one.

May

I haven’t started thinking of what I will do for April, but I sure am happy to be finished with these May placemats. I think they turned out great! The only project let for May is the potholders. Once those are done I will have a complete set: Tablerunner, placemats, napkins, mug rugs, and potholders!

Wrap Up

While I am falling behind on all my sewing projects and APQ Resolution quilting, I do feel really good about the things I have gotten done. I figure it is time to trade in one of my midarms for a real long arm with a computerized helper. Then I can really make so serious inroads into all my quilt tops. It just takes me too long with my current setups. Shopping for a new machine! Oh yes! Meanwhile, I will continue keeping the quilting simple.

Nala

While Simba loves to crawl into my latest quilt to snuggle, Nala continues to steal thread, pins, or anything else she figures would be fun to drag around the house.

Last night I was watching You Tube on my living room TV and she was chasing the thread on the TV. Bad kitty!

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to check out what I am doing. You have a great day!!!
