Quilt Diary: Sew-A-Long Updates

I don’t have any new finishes since Saturday.  It’s Hockey Wednesday and I am hanging out at my favorite blogging place – Starbucks – while Shaun is at practice.   Work is extremely busy right now and looks like it will not let up until October.  Despite that, I feel like I am currently in control.  I will get a bit more stitching/blogging time now that Shaun is with me more days during the school week (his school is across the street).  We have 6am practice on Mondays and Thursdays now (groan) and Tuesday/Wednesday practices.  I only bring him on Wednesdays most time.  Our first tournament is this weekend so I am trying to figure out how I am going to work in my quilting.

Sew-A-Long Updates

#100days100blocks2019

I am still current with this SAL.  I was even able to put together Row 5 (blocks 41-50) Monday night so feeling real good about that.  After a little thought, I am going to sew the second 5 rows together and then sew the two halves.  It will just be easier to manage the top that way.  See above Rows 1-5.  See below for blocks August 25th-28th (blocks 56-60).  I started sewing most of my seams open on the blocks unless it helped me to have a crisp point.  The seam bulk from rows 1-4 are significant.  Starting with row 5, I am ironing all seams open with connecting the blocks. I am currently cutting blocks 63-67.

#MamagypsyquiltQAL

I am diligently working on this QAL.  It does not appear that I will actual finish the top by Saturday.  I am okay with that.  I now have finished sewing rows 1 & 2 (see below) and laid out, pinned, and marked row 3.  All the pieces for row 4 are now clipped together for each block.  I discovered while sewing this one that I need to follow the ironing directions because the points match better that way.  I am sewing my last Tula Pink Charm Squared block but I still need to sew between each seam  because I do not want to break thread (currently using pink).  I realized that sewing my 100day blocks was the perfect solution to this problem since I have not cut anymore triangles for my temperature hst quilt.  I did it for all of row 2.  Yes it took longer but the entire process was smoother.

I started putting the together the Darting Birds block 27.  I finished my first of four units now that I am done with all the HST.  It is going together pretty smoothly.  Here are some progress pictures.

Upcoming Deadlines

#Myonethingwithamy this week is to finish Row 2 & 3 of the #mamagypsyquiltQAL  I think I will meet that goal because everything is prepped.  I have until Sunday night so we will see.

#OneMonthlyGoal is to finish my Blooming Apples by Saturday before the hockey game.  It is doable if I focus on this project the next few days.  I only have brown machine applique, then quilt and bind.  It is small so it shouldn’t be too bad.  It’s Wednesday so finish the brown thread tonight.  Layer and stitch in the ditch Thursday.  Friday I could free motion quilt, then Saturday is just binding.  Totally possible if I stick with this schedule don’t you think?  I will still need to write the blog on the finish in order to qualify but I can do that at the hockey game.  Another Ready, Set, Go! moment.  LOL!

Blooming Apples

Well believe it or not, that is it.  With blogging twice a week right now, I have less to share (and the fact that I totally sandbagged yesterday).

I have no new kitty pictures today.

Happy Quilting and Safe Travels,
