Quilt Diary: May One Monthly Goal

Hello Fellow Quilters:

Hard to believe we are in May already. The year is flying by. I have been debating for the last couple of days what I wanted my goal to be for May. So many projects to pick from for this quarter. I finally settled on doing a little catch up on 365 Block Challenge 2018 hosted by Kathryn Kerr. I am a wee bit behind and want to really focus on striding forward on this great project. Making 3 1/2 blocks have been a lot of fun! This is also my first 100% solid quilt. Next question I had to ask myself was what my target would be. Since I am only on February 11th, I wanted a reachable stretch goal. So I settled on finishing blocks through April 15th. That is a little over 60 blocks in the next 25 days.

The restoration is still going on at my house and is a distraction for work and my quilting. I can not wait until it is DONE! Not only won’t I have to run errands for the contractors, spend lots of money, but I will be able to eat at home, get my stuff out of storage, and have all my quilt tools back and sewing machines.

Weekly Update

This week I did finish the baby quilt which I posted earlier this week. It turned out well. I had planned on finishing the receiving blanket and burp clothes, but Laura went and had the baby early. The pressure is off.

I got out my pre-cut May Block of the Month for the Quilters Planner Sew A Long. I put together the first of 3 blocks for two different colorways. It turned out pretty good. I was surprised at how well by points turned out in my square in a square units. Now just need to do it two more times. My first time ever staying current with a Block of the Month. Feels great!!

At this writing, I have precut 12 more blocks for the Challenge. It has been enlightening experience to discover that it helps if I make these mini kits for myself. It started when I was making my knot blocks earlier this year. The plan for today is to finish cutting February blocks. February 28th will be the center medallion so it will be a big one.
