Floss Fridays #1

It hit me like a ton of bricks this afternoon what to call this weekly blog for my cross stitch projects. While I meant to post last week, it seems that I needed to wait until this week for this creative inspiration. So instead of just one week’s worth of projects you will be getting two weeks this time which will make this post still a bit long. Although I did work on a few projects multiple days.

FINISH: January Truckin Along by Stitching with the Housewives

Finished January Truckin Along

This was stitched on 14 count chalkboard black aida with called for Classic Colorworks thread. Fun Stitch!

START & FINISH: March Barn Sweet Barn by Fat Quarter Shop

Nala modeling Finished Barn Sweet Barn

I am stitching these on 20 count white lugana. I like the colors but I kinda wished I had mixed them a little different. I used DMC 369, 909, 911, 913, and 954.

START: Oracle SAL 2022 by OracleTale

Oracle SAL 2022

Here is the first release of this fun free stitch-a-long. You have to download from her Facebook Group. I started two others but I never started them on time so I am excited to be in on the beginning of this one even though I am already a wee bit behind. This next week I plan to finish release 2.

I am stitching on 16 count black aida. My main thread is DMC 4030. I ended up deciding the tea cup would look better in a complementary color. I used DMC 156.

START: Mr. February, A Calendar Gnome by Charlie’s Needle

Start Mr February

I am using Picture This Plus 28 count Legacy Lugana and using all the called for Classic Colorworks plus DMC 310. I had hoped to be farther along but I have honestly been focusing on the January stitches to wrap them up.

Just My Type by Fat Quarter Shop

Just My Type progress

I think I mentioned this last time that this is a SAL from 2021 that I started this year. I pulled all my own fabrics and threads. I settled on Fabric Flair 14 ct aida Antique Sage Dyed Effect using the following Weeks Dye Works: Turkish Red, Peony, Sophia’s Pink, Meadow, Islamorada, Lagoon, Blackboard, and Parchment. My goal for the month is to finish the typewriter which is basically the center of the design. I just need to finish filling in the dark teal and then add the roll and paper. Nice progress but a ways to still go.

Christmas Calendar by Tiny Modernist

Day 3 – Gingerbread Man

I am stitching along with Lori Holt on the 25th of each month working on a Christmas project. This is mine. January I was able to finish the whole square but February I got pretty far, but not done.

I am using a 28ct linen but I don’t remember what color it is. I am using called for DMC. This month I took the time to transfer from my normal storage baggies to my floss bitties that I use while working on a project. But this project has so many colors, I may have to throw in another ring to put the colors for the square I am working on so that it is more managable. Thinking… Thinking…

Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery

Last year I struggled with all this sampler and learned how to read the pattern and dealing with muliple pages to a pattern. I feel like 2022 I got a much better handle on how to proceed and am feeling amazingly good about finishing up February and all the progress on this project. I thought I had a picture of my latest progress but I couldn’t find it. Next week…..

This is on 16 ct white aida using Weeks Dye Works Lagoon and Islamorada. Just love the colors!

Prim Stitch by Lori Holt

This was another large sampler that I started in 2020 when I first got back into cross stitch after 35 years. Once again a learning experience on how to approach these big projects. I am feeling pretty darn good on my progress and am so happy I did do this one. Once I ever finish this one, then I can jump in and do some of her other large samplers.

This is stitched on 25 ct lugana prim using the called for aurfil floss colors.

January Calendar Crates (Main) by Stitching with the Housewives

Jan Main Calendar Crates progress

I am stitching this on 14ct chalkboard black aida with called for Classic Colorworks thread. My first one in this series took me six month to make so I feeling pretty darn good that I am close to halfway on this one. My goal is to finish this month so you will see this one again.

Let’s Talk Winter (Lg) by Hands on Design

Large Let’s Talk Winter progress

I actually finished the “warm fires” words this week too but forgot to take a photo. I only have one more section to finish in March which is the top left corner and add the light teal to the snowflakes. After that, anything else I do will be a bonus for this month.

This is stitched on 16 ct black aida with called for dmc thread. I hope to start Spring next month.

Snowballs for Sale by Lori Holt

Wheel barrel full of snowballs progress

I really want to finish the entire wheelbarrel before putting away in April. It felt good finishing the actual wheel barrel. Now I need to fill it with snowballs and a sign. Wish me luck!

Recap for 2/24 – 3/10

Since I started doing To Do Tuesday’s for my quilting, I started writing weekly goals to go along with my monthly goals for my cross stitch. With breaking things out (i.e. Prim Stitch border, flower, church, bird, star) It makes it easier to move from project to project. My March goals included finishing both January Truckin Along and Calendar Crates. I believe that is truly doable.

At the beginning of March, I made a decision to put away (on hold or inactive) both Santa Baby and Winter Camper. I have not been enjoying working on either. After March, the plan is to put away all winter and Christmas projects until later in the year and pull out some spring ones.

There will be about three weeks left in March to meet some of my goals for the month. I have a total of 16 projects to work on this month. I feel fabulous to have already checked off 2 projects that I meet my goals on – Barn Sweet Barn and Truckin Along.

Thanks again for stopping by and joining me for my new weekly blog.

Keep on stitching,

Peggy
