Floss Friday #107

Happy Friday! How is your first Friday in September shaping up? It is going to be another hot one here in San Jose, California. We have a nice little breeze which is helping cool it off a tad. It is still 90+ but should be breaking the current heat wave this weekend. Just in time for me to head to Redding on Monday into 90+ weather again. LOL! I am looking forward to this quick little jaunt north. Plan on going to Lassen National Park one day at least. Breakfast and dinner will be with my daughter Caitlin who is going to be working in Redding on a project for work all week. It will be good to see her.

Starts & Finishes 🏁

Overall the week has been fairly productive. I decided to designate a couple of “Start Days” this month. My first one was last weekend where I spent at least one hour on each new start: Let’s check it out.

START: September Year of Celebration Season 2 by Hands on Design
Start of Sep Year of Celebration Season 2 9/2/2024

Found a nice little flower to start this monthly stitch. I am continuing to stitch on 16 ct dirty aida for this series with the called for Weeks Dye Works and Classic Colorworks. Looking forward to a finish this month.

START: February Month 2 Month – Button by Stitching with the Housewives
Start of Feb Month 2 Month Button 9/2/2024

This project has two charts. The smallest one is called a button and the larger one is referred to as a barn. I went back and forth and decided to start the button first. This is being stitched on 14 ct white aida with the called for Classic Colorworks floss.

START: August Stackables by It’s Sew Emma (FQS)
Start of August Stackables 9/2/2024

I considered for one second of starting September in September but I have decided that I would be doing all the series in order for now. I am tired of figuring out what’s left in a series. While I like stitching the current month, it got to confusing and I ended up stitching stuff in the wrong season over time anyway. So here we go with August. This Honey jar went way faster than I thought it would and I really like the floss Queen Bee for this yellow.

This project is being stitched on 14 ct Marbeled White Pine Board fabric by Fabric Flair with the called for Classic Colorworks floss.

START & FINISH: August Monthly Marking by Heart in Hand

I have a little fondness for lighthouses. It always reminds me of my sister who loves Lighthouses. This was a quick and easy stitch and looks fabulous.

September WIPGO Projects 📋

I don’t have any cool graphics this month. The host for this did the YouTube pull but never posted on Instagram. No complaints, just missing the cool graphics.

Project #4: Let’s Talk Winter Pillow by Hands on Design
Let’s Talk Winter Pillow WIP 2/15/2024

I haven’t worked on this project since February this year. I am looking forward to finishing it this month 🤞

Project #11: Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery
Fruit of Plenty WIP 8/7/2024

I have been working on this Jumbo project since 2021. I am over halfway now and it will be good to get some quality time on this.

WIP Updates 🗓️

With having less projects, I am generally able to spend an entire evening on a project versus splitting my time. I have a number of projects that are close to be done so I am always excited to sit with a project each evening.

Autumn Baskets #3 by Hands on Design
Autumn Basket #3 WIP 9/5/2024

I finished off August with one night on this project and I decided to throw in another night this week thinking I could finish, but I think it will be one more time before this one will be done. I am loving how these colors play together!

Fabulous House: Green House by Cottage Garden Samplings

I am not sure if you can tell, but I did a lot of white work this week on this project. Sometimes I wish the fabric was a little more blue or gray so it would show up, but then would it look like a glass house? I loved finally stitching the cat. Everything on the left is complete now. I hope this month to finish the actual green house.

2024 SJ Temperature Library by Kristi’s Corner

Woohoo! I finished the August book shelf. I just love this project. Temperature Cross Stitch projects are just so fun! You can see it was cooler than July but still pretty warm month. Can’t wait to see how September develops.

Fall Harvest by It’s Sew Emma (FQS)

Until I started stitching on this fall project this week, I was thinking I hadn’t done much. I finished up the basket this week then started the yellow squash. I had forgotten I had finished these adorable pumpkins in orange and green. I am looking forward to filling in the basket.

WIPGO Project: Let’s Talk Winter by Hands on Design
Let’s Talk Winter WIP 9/3/2024

I was so excited when I finished Winter Wishes this week. Just need to add the word “warm”. After that is done, I will start on finishing “brr..”. There really isn’t much left to do. After the “brr..” and snowflakes the next section will be cozy quilts. So exciting. I have four more times scheduled this month, but I don’t think I am going to need all five. This is the last season in this series that I need to finish. I have started perusing the finishing instructions.

Upcoming Plans & Thoughts 💭

Whatever I get done this weekend will be the only variety in projects for the week. I have already decided that I am only going to take my WIPGO project Fruit of Plenty on this trip. I am always overly optomistic on my trips in regards to stitching. LOL! I will take my WIPGO project and my English Paper Piecing project and see what I get done.

I felt inspired to pull out my finished stitch projects for fall to see if I can final finish any of them. I have one that will be framed, another hooped, and two that I plan to make into pillows. We shall see where that goes.

Happy stitching everyone! Please feel free to leave comments!

  1. Glad you get to go have lunch with your daughter, sounds like a fun trip. That honey jar is really cute. I’m happy to see your Fruit of Plenty – always one of my favorites. It is actually 63 here this morning – a sure sign that fall is coming. That makes me very happy! Have a fun weekend Peggy!
