To Do Tuesday #200

Welcome back my quilty friends! I was happy to be in the sewing studio a few days this week as well as going on a Shop Hop with my quilty friend Janet. As happens with most Shop Hops, I spent way too much money. It was fun discovering quilt shops in Washington and Oregon. Found some real gems.

I plan to link up with my Canadian friend Carol @ Quilt Schmilt for To Do Tuesday. Join us!

New Start

Color Study Quilt Along

Yep! I opened my box of fabric. Oh my! What a color palette that Camp Color Basic collection has. 84 fabrics! In 24 hues and 6 value groups (lightest, lighter, light, hue, dark, muted). It is going to be so much fun!!!! Thank goodness I downloaded the swatch sheet to help me keep it in order. The first three blocks are from the Bloom collection – pinks, magentas, violets.

AG Color Study Blk 1 Cover

I cut blocks 1 & 2 already and printed out block 3. This Friday block 4 comes out.

AG Color Study: Step 1, Block 1

Each Friday, they present to us the original block, a few blocks with the colors rearranged (which give different looks) and a dark block. While I was cutting blocks 1 & 2, I decided I would really love to do the dark version as well. I love a dark background. I ordered some more black black alison glass fabric, meanwhile I can work from my stash. Actually, I could have worked from my stash (which dates back to 2016 releases of Alison’s fabrics).

First Block of the Alison Glass QAL – Color Study Quilt Along

While working on this block, I ended up with alot of cutoffs which I sewed together to maybe being used in the finishing of the quilt (or a serpendity quilt maybe). The first day the flying geese were perfect. But the second day not so much. I am glad that the points were sewn to the perfect ones. I was afraid to measure the block because I suspect it isn’t the size it should be. LOL😂

WIP Updates

The only other projects I worked on this week were my leaders and enders project Starbright Paisleys and my quilt retreat start Fade To Gray.

Starbright Paisleys: A strip club pattern by Cozy Quilts

I finished all of my round 2 sets so it was time to start sewing my twosies into four patches again. This colorway will have 8 blocks and then I will only have one other colorway left to sew for 8 more blocks.

Tula Pink Fade to Gray

This week I finished a total of 3 blocks in the Light Gray rows. I loved seeing the Snow Leopard and Snow Seal. There are four more of this colorway to finish.

I also went ahead and sewed together a couple of the medium gray strip sets for the upcoming blocks. I began cutting twosies sets. The first 30 (of 156) are cut.

Musings

Ironing Starbright & Fade To Gray

I went by Home Depot today to pick up some shelving that I want to try. I really want to get the sewing studio more organized. The chaos is killing my vibe. I have a ton of kits and projects laying on the floor. I have a walk in closet and I am thinking I will start sorting through the stuff on the floor to what is a kit versus a WIP.

I also need to order the darn design wall so I can finish the dozen of quilt tops that just need borders. I just need to finally finish some of these. I am going to also sign up with my guild to participate in the PHD challenge. That one I am going to start with quilting tops that need to be quilted. Someone suggested that I just start with 3. When I finish them, add more. Sounds like a plan to me.

On top of all that I need my office organized as well. I need some muscle to help me with that one. It requires the moving of my file cabinet and bookcases.

On another note, that preorder quilt kit from Alison arrived today. The quilt design is actually by Nancy Rink and uses the Alison Glass Color Camp Basic fabrics. It looks fun. Not sure if I will start yet. I might save that for the new year or the spring retreat. I did kit it up.

I also picked up fabric for a quilt pattern called Northern Nights, and fabric to finish the Shop Hop blocks, and found a Kimberbell Winter kit that I wanted to do. Another gem was a store in Gresham carries Laura Heine patterns and will do fabric kits for them. So I picked out three patterns which she is kitting up and mailing.

Since I moved I have only been doing English Paper Piecing and traditional quilt piecing. I am ready to get back into applique. My room is currently not properly setup for that. Hence, the floor cleanup! Okay time to get on with my dinner plans for the night. You have a great day. Thank you for stopping by and checking out all of my squirrel projects!

Happy quilting,

Peggy Stockwell in Vancouver, Washington
