Quilt Diary: SAL Update

Coming to you from Denver today.  On the road for hockey with my grandson Shaun.  We are in day 2 of this tournament.  We have played so very physical teams and hard teams.  We managed to squeak out a win 3 out of 3 games.  Playoffs start this afternoon so I thought I would squeeze in a quick post between games since I didn’t post anything on Wednesday.  And that would be because Sunday the washer died and I ended up running around all over town to get a new washer and dryer by Wednesday so we could finish washing clothes for hockey.  Very little sewing really happened at the sewing machine.

The one thing that I really did work on this week was my to go quilting.  I finished another block yesterday after the games – Block 28 Duck & Ducklings.  I worked on it at Monday, Wednesday, and Friday hockey practice as well.  Amazing what happens when you focus on something.  I am over halfway on Block 29 – Economy.  It helps that there is only 9 pieces to the block versus the 50 of block 27 or even the 26 pieces of block 28.  Here is progress pictures.  When I get home, I will do my official picture of Block 28.

#100DAYS100BLOCKS2019

My #onethingwithamy this week was to finish through block 86 since we would be on the road Thursday – Sunday.  I finished!  I can’t believe there is only 14 blocks left.  With the busy schedule, I still haven’t worked on laying out any additional rows for this quilt.  On the other hand, I am way ahead of last year’s challenge because all 100 blocks still need to be assembled. Here are blocks 78 – 83, September 16th-21st.

#QP2019SEWALONG

I also whipped out the two September blocks of the month for this sew-a-long.  Only a few more blocks to make before assembly begins with this SAL.  Here they are.

#365BLOCKSCHALLENGE

I finished sewing my other prepped block for May 12th.  I had hoped I could fit in prepping a couple more this week.  There just wasn’t enough time.  When we get home tomorrow night, I will spend some time cutting for the different sewalongs.  I like having prepped blocks ready to rock and roll.

Here is the cutest pinwheel scrappy block that I finished over two days for this challenge – Kathy’s Ramble.

Applique Update

Unfortunately, I have not made any significant progress on any of these projects since the Autumn finish.  I have the Schoolhouse wooly mug rug with me.  I am ready to start making apples.  I will post the latest version of the schoolhouse, but nothing on the pansies or jack o’lantern.

Quilting to be Done Update

Nothing new to report here.  Just don’t want to lose touch with needing to do something.  It is hard to believe there is essentially only one week left in the quarter.

Other Projects on the Sewing Table

Halloween Placemats and Table Runner

I found the project box with these half finished placemats.  I decided to download the Shabby Fabric Easy Pieced Table Runner pattern and I am going to use the blocks from this design so I can make reversible placemats.  I have enough left over fabric from my original purchase and enough white and green scraps to make the table runner coordinate with my placemats already in motion.  I am very excited about finishing these placemats this week.  They are my #onemonthlygoal with Patty at Elm Street Quilts.  My placemats are 12 1/2 by 18 1/2 so I figure if I make the 12 1/2 block from the Easy Pieced pattern and add two 3 1/2 border strips, it will be perfect.  They should not take long at all to make.  I think I can make both projects without having to buy any more fabrics.  I only anticipate finishing the placemats this week though.  More free motion practice!

Halifax Temperature Quilt

I continue to sew each day together.  I pulled the hst for the rest of August 2018.  I only have about a week left to put together.  I started ironing the seams open on these hst squares and I am liking the results way better.  My column looks straighter to me as well as being nice and flat!

Others

Nothing happening on my Zuma Charms Squared quilt.  Received in the mail this week what will be the backing of the Mama Gypsy Quilt.  Wednesday a cute little blue box arrived with my new EPP project Jeweled Facets.  I took a peek inside.  Exciting things to come.

I also ordered from Amazon a hexagon punch w/fabric template and some cardstock.  I am going to start stocking up on a future Grandmother’s Garden Quilt.  I need to pull out the one MY Grandmother made to figure out the pattern and make a coloring sheet.  I can’t remember if she made her flowers oval or circles.  I know she used a solid teal between flowers.  I am thinking I will make this hexie quilt a scrappy quilt.

This is a wrap.  I am not at home so no kitty pictures but how about a napping hockey player instead.

  1. you do stay busy between games! Your grandson is a cutie! Hockey was the one sport my boys didn’t play — football, baseball, basketball and track kept us super busy for many years — my youngest did play for the NFL — he’s 31 now and retired 6 years was enough for him!

Looking forward to seeing your Halloween table items!

  2. Wow! Still a lot done! I think The flowers were made with ovals on Grandma’s quilt for you. But it’s been years since I’ve seen it. Xoxo Get them in the playoffs!! 🏒🥅
