To Do Tuesday #85

Hi Everyone! Just touching base with everyone with this week’s update on all my quilty projects. Hope this is a good winter day for all of you. Weather here in San Jose has been all over the place. Blizzards one day. 70F another. Just crazy. Here in San Jose we just got alot of rain. Today is a little overcast but I am seeing peeks of blue skies.

I will be linkinig up with Carol at Quilt Schmilt in British Columbia again this week. Come join us!

What Got Done This Week

I have had a very productive week so I am pleased to share what I was able to work on. Just a reminder for those who are visiting for the first time. I am a ADD quilter and part squirrel. I work on several projects at once. For me, it helps with my creativity flow. Let’s take a look.

  1. I was able to finish the February 2024 Monthly Color Challenge block by Patterns by Jen which is a free pattern. February was Orange and as I have done for the past 6 years, I pulled from my Alison Glass stash.
  2. I also was able to whip out the March 2024 Monthly Color Challenge block as well. It is Red. Alison glass is not a true red person so it takes some digging to get more on the red side. In the end, I was pleased with the results.
  3. This week I was able to finish the last of the Half Square Triangles needed to make the pieced border for my Sweet Childhood Memories which is a free pattern by Pat Sloan quilt.
  4. It felt good to finish making the first round of all the temperature half square triangles for my 2024 Cottage Temperature Quilt. I even ran out of one temp while assembling February and made some more of those as well. I am using the highs each day for San Jose, California.
  5. Finished sewing the February Cottage block for the 2024 Cottage Temperature Quilt by Fat Quarter Shop. This was a free pattern as well. I even sewed January & February cottages together.
  6. While working on all these projects, I continued working on my leaders & enders project: Daydreamer which is a fabric line by Tula Pink with a free pattern from Pat Sloan from March 2023. Every March Pat does a Block a Day challenge which I am not doing this year because I haven’t finished last year’s. I really love this 4 patch in a 4 patch pattern. I have 3 more from this grouping to finish. I have all the mini four patches done and now assembling each of the blocks. I have been doing four of each colorway with the idea of assembling the four into a bigger block. Still messing with that.
  7. Last night I was on a roll, so I finished binding my teal tablerunner. Feels so good!

UFO Resolution 2024 update

I’ve decided to switch up the presentation in this section. Let me know if you do or don’t like it. But I was feeling like it was redundant with the UFO lists on the side bars. I am thinking I will be doing this like I do the WIPGO update going forward. So here we go.

January Projects Update
January & February Cottages (2024 Temperature Cottage WIP 3/4/2024)
2024 Fat Quarter Shop 2024 Temperature Quilt

As you can see above this is under control. I have completed and have on hand at least one HST for each of my 22 fabric choices which are Alison Glass’ Chrysthaem line. I am loving the results. I almost forgot my window for February. It ended up in the third row instead of the second row. LOL!

2023 Pink Door’s Queen of Diamonds English Paper Piecing Quilt with Tula Pink fabrics
Queen of Diamonds Block 2-2 WIP 2/19/2024

Since January I have completed all of block 2-1 and am almost done with block 2-2. I received the last shipment of fabric for all 12 months this week. Time to wrap up month 2 and move on to month 3.

February Projects Update

I failed totally on my February UFO projects. I didn’t work on either of them at all during the month other than pull them out and see what needed to be done. Makes me sad.

  • 1920’s Farmers Wife English Paper Piecing on block 45 which I lost 2 pieces and need to make or buy the missing paper and then recut the fabric.
  • 2019 100 Days 100 blocks was made with Alison’s Glass Christmas fabric released in 2019. It needs a back. The fabric is no longer available so I will need to pick something else. The quilt reads red so I am thinking a red back could be fun. I decided no borders.
March Projects
2019 Tula Pink Zuma Charm Quilt
Zuma blocks

The blocks are made. Just need to assemble the blocks and decide if I am doing a border. This fabric is Tula Pink’s Zuma collection. A beautiful fabric collection.

New Potholders

Nothing selected but I am in dire need of some potholders and placemats that match my March table runner. I am thinking greens and maybe a shamrock pattern would be cute yet easy. I have a pattern from Shamrock Ridge booklet for Nancy Halverson’s On Wander Lane quilt series.

What’s Next?

Instead of calling this a to do list, I have decided to actually name it for what it really is – the next thing on my current WIPs that I am working on this week. I will be doing things from this list and I may come up with a 1,2,3 priority. For now I have rearranged the list to be more in order of what I would like to finish first. I just don’t like being boxed in like that. Maybe call it a plan….

  • Fuse House block for On Wander Lane: Bunny Knoll
  • December Gnome Is Where The Heart Is – applique with red
  • Finish Queen of Diamonds block 2-2 (EPP)
  • Pick fabrics for March potholders and decide on block to be used.
  • Pull out Zuma blocks and arrange in order to assemble top center
  • Find backing and binding for the 2019 100 blocks 100 days quilt
  • Pull out and replace missing pieces for Farmers Wife block 45
  • Add borders to Patriotic Table Runner
  • Take color drawing and actually put fabrics in EQ8 for Petit 4 (Venti 12) Quilt
  • Start assembling HST for Sweet Childhood Memories side borders
  • Cut & Sew Scrappiness is Happiness next block (only 7 left)
  • Schedule long arm maintenance
  • Organize pink, purple, & gray threads
  • Continue working on 2023 March Block of the Day as leaders/enders project
  • Layer and quilt rainbow angles into placemats
  • Trim down and layer Big Sur Coastal landscape
  • Make flower units from Hummingbird class
  • Christmas Year in Words  – applique red areas
  • Blooming Pointsettas – applique red areas
  • Continue working on #100days100blocks2023.  My goal is finish through block 80
  • Continue working on #365blockchallenge.  My goal is to cut 8/30 & 8/31

Afterthoughts

Nala has been a busy girl this week already. While I was quitling with Zoom group she was busy faxing to who knows who and pulling fabric out of my rolling cart while she was riding across the room. Meanwhile, Simba was just hanging out watching her. He was a good boy. He only changed the settings on my sewing machine once!

Last night I received happy mail from Fat Quarter shop. I was waiting for the foundation paper pads for the blocks I am going to make. I decided since I was doing 12 inch blocks, it was easier to buy them than trying to tape sheets together. I spent some time arranging my Alison Glass 2024 Sunprints in a rainbow order to help me decide how I would be putting them in the quilt. I realized there is no actual red in this year’s collection and there were a few colors that are not true….blue or purple or green or aqua. That made me think that I needed to download the color palette into Electric Quilt 8 and pick the fabrics for the blocks before I start this one. The design phase make take me another month as I have a full plate in March.

I took a surface pattern design class last year but ended up not having enough time to dedicate to it. It is a in-depth intense course crammed into 8 weeks. It started yesterday. February we had homework to do in order to be ready to start and get the most out of the course. I have completed all of this except my mini inspiration board.

They have made several signifcant changes to the course over last year. All the changes have really enhanced the learning experience. The live classes started yesterday.

Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully you found something of value to take with you. This has been a fantastic journey for me. I often think of my grandmother who introduced me to quilting when I was a young girl as well as my friend Mary Elizabeth who helped get me over the need to be perfect and just do it. Then there is my best friend and sister Dorothy. She is my biggest cheerleader! We can’t do this without some support and that includes all my instagram and online friends. Thank you!

  1. I love your Temperature Cottages, and the Queen of Diamonds block is gorgeous! All your projects are so interesting Peggy, I love reading about and seeing photos of every single one.
Nala and Simba are so adorable! Isn’t it funny how cats are like kids when you are occupied or trying to talk on the phone or on Zoom? They seem to know when they can be naughty. Nala taking a ride in the rolling cart reminds me of my Toby the Tuxedo cat. I move furniture around fairly frequently, and Toby will actually hop on top of whatever I’m moving and take a ride – lol! Enjoy the rest of your week!
