To Do Tuesday #76

I don’t have a lot to share this week so let’s get to it. I will be linking up with Carol @ Quiltschmilt again this week for To Do Tuesday.

What Got Done This Week

I had a great week off in great wilds of Canada and Washington this week. Just flew in around midnight last night. I did take just one project with me but was very distracted so didn’t get as much done as I would like. Regardless, I am pleased with my progress on my Queen of Diamonds Block 2-1. I am putting it together a little different than they suggested because that is what works for me.

I am actually almost done with the block. I just have to attach the purple triangle unit that I made and then make the aqua units and attach. So pretty. I love english paper piecing. It is so calming.

Afterthoughts

I typically love this next couple of weeks – reflecting on the past year and making plans for the upcoming year. It is when you discover that you did so much more than you realize in the moment. While I have not finished any quilts to the point of binding them, I did finish assembling about 14 quilt tops this year, picked backing for the majority of them, and even made the binding for several.

I forgot that I would be attending a hockey tournament this week so my hope of whipping out those tops on my long arm has been muted a bit. We will see if I can at least finish quilting one or two this week…..after I go on You Tube to figure out how to rethread my machine. Simba was kind of enough to pull the thread all over the sewing room while I was gone. One of my cat sitters must have opened the door for him. He can be very convincing when he wants to be.

My plan is to start with gold thread and quilt as many quilts that use that. I think there is at least four that would normally be quilted with this gorgeous shade of gold that I have. I am hoping to finish my sunshine quilt in time to be quilted as well. So I got to get cracking baby!

Time to also put together my 2024 APQ list. Last year was mostly tops that needed to have borders added. This year will feature mostly blocks that need to be assembled into a quilt top. I can’t wait to comb through my wip list to pick the future projects.

I also have decided I will be starting a couple of new quilts even though I should not be doing that. Oh well. I am most excited about starting a 2024 Cottage Temperature quilt. The free pattern is on Fat Quarter Shops website if you are interested. I am hoping that by working on this one, that it will inspire me to finish the Halifax, Nova Scotia one that I started for my daughter when she moved there almost 6 years ago. It was a simple column of half square triangles that lead to me getting bored.

Well I spent more time selecting pictures than sharing this week. Until next time!

  1. Silly Simba! My cat has never tried to get up on my longarm that I know of, thankfully. I think she’s partly afraid of it but she will sit under it. What shade (and brand) is that gold? Just curious.
I too love this next week or so when I re-visit what I’ve done and think about all the fun things I want to do!

  2. Oh that Simba! 😀 Glad you had a good trip. That cottage temperature quilt is a cute pattern. I know what you mean about the half square triangles that seemed to be typical of temperature quilts. The newer versions look like much more fun.
