I got more done than I thought I would get done with travel this past weekend, so I feel pretty good about that. I was ecstatic to finish my first full size quilt of the year and first on my APQ Resolution list. I am still perfecting my machine binding. This time I decided to hand bind the corners and machine stitch the straight edges. I really liked how it turned out. It was way easier (and faster).
Week of March 8th – March 14th
I feel like I should be able to get more done since I have no planned travel as of today. By the way, Happy International Women’s Day everyone! I hope you have done something to take care of yourself!
To Do #1 – Assemble Rows 5 – 9 for the Sunshine Quilt
While I am not listing this here as separate items, in my personal quilt journal, each row is broken out. I don’t know about you, but this tactic really helps me move forward. I am loving the colors I picked for this quilt. I know bright bold colors is not everyone’s jam, but it sure makes me happy to work on this quilt.
To Do #2 – Sew last 2 Heart Blocks
I just have two more blocks to sew together for my February table runner. This month I plan to assemble the top and most like I will set aside. But we will see. I am still planning out the table runner itself. I am thinking sashing is in my future and of course I am saving all those half square triangle cut offs for future matching projects.
To Do #3 – Finding the binding for the Over & Under Quilt
While it helped to make the label last week for this quilt so I didn’t feel like I was a total stall out, I am getting a little frustrated that I can’t remember the “safe” place I stashed the binding when I rearranged my sewing room. Heck I can’t even remember if I decided to stash it in the old sewing room, my dining room, the new sewing room, or my Harry Potter room. I knew where it was for over a year and now – poof! Needless to say this is not the only missing item from last summer’s musically sewing rooms. I think I will have to start a grid search of the house. It only took me 10 years to find the backing to the Jack Be Quick quilt (LOL!)
To Do #4 – Cut Batting for the Black & Gold quilt
Next step is cutting the batting for this quilt now that I have the backing loaded
To Do #5 – Load bobbins for the Black & Gold quilt
While I am at it, I will wind some bobbins and change out the thread on the long arm as we move closer to quilting this beautiful quilt.
To Do #6 – Cut Batting for the March Table Runner
I have a number of smaller projects that I made last year but didn’t finish. One was this cut mini charm table runner in greens and whites. It would be nice to replace the one from January even if I am still using the pink placemats and napkins I finished in February. LOL! I am such a slow poke. But I now have a full table dressing for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and May.
To Do #7 – Cut Batting for Teal Batik Table Runner
I figured if this was the week to cut batting why not throw this one in there as well. This was a random table runner I made from scraps from a lap quilt I gave my sister Cheryl for her 50th birthday. Maybe I can finish it up this month along with her potholders and send them to her for a belated (February) birthday gift. (LOL)
To Do #8 – Instagram QuiltFest 2022
While I was out of town this past weekend, I fell behind so I am setting a goal to post the current day plus the oldest one that I haven’t posted to catch up. I love looking and reading all the great stuff that come along with this awesome IG event.
Recap of Week 5
While I have a long list of things on my monthly goals for this month, finding my binding and finishing the center of the Sunshine Quilt are some big tasks so I kept it small. Sometimes my to do lists are about what is next on a project so I can pick and choose what I feel like working on. How about you?
- Assemble Rows 5 – 9 of Sunshine Quilt
- Sew last 2 heart blocks for February Table Runner
- Find binding for Over & Under quilt
- Cut batting for Black & Gold lap quilt

I am linking up with Linda over at Texas Quilt Gal again for this week. Thanks Linda for you and everyone else for the support and encouragement. I am happy I found you guys.
Have a very happy International Women’s Day,
Peggy Stockwell
LOVE the Sunshine Quilt! By “each row is broken out” do you mean you aren’t chain piecing? I prefer to make a block at a time rather than chain piece, but that’s because I get bored! Your teal runner is beautiful, and that green/white mini charm piece is really cute. I still love your black and gold quilt.
Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday!
Hi Linda: I am not very good at chain piecing. My friends giggle at me. For some reason, every time I chain piece, I mess up what goes where. I have successfully done it for certain projects. But honestly, I tend to make two blocks at a time or better yet a block from two differnt quilts so I can’t screw up! So when I say row by row, it is pretty much I lay out a row and keep adding one block at a time to it until I have a completed row. On my To Do list in my Quilt journal – It has a place to check off row 5, then row 6, etc. I even have to add each completed row to what I have already done. The Sunshine Quilt is at least pretty hard to mess up because of the alternating blocks, but when I assembled my Halloween quilt, I still messed up. Meaning I spent all this time figuring out how to layout the quilt so no two fabrics were touching but then I got something upside down and I ended up with fabrics touching. LOL! I just have to laugh at myself. It is what it is. I am not anal enough to feel like I should unsew to match my original plan. I am okay with the mistakes. After all this time, I just figure it adds personality to the quilt. Thank you again for all your support and providing a place to feel accountable. Love your projects!
