Welcome back to To Do Tuesday. I will be linking up with Carol @ Quilt Schmitt. See the link below the cute logo below.
My experiment with 24 hours of quilting was overall a success. It didn’t got quite how I was picturing it. I only got in 16 hours of quilting. Yet I still got way more done than I normally would in a weekend. I may have to rethink and plan a little better for next time. Not bad for my first quilting marathon.
What Got Done This Week!
The quilting/sewing marathon was very helpful in jumpstarting me on projects I had been procrastinating on. I ran out of things to sew, so began working on those projects.
- January Monthly Color Challenge block completed. Way harder to do these not quite flying geese. I recut my material once and resewed three times (I made sure I didn’t cut anything the second time until I got it right.) I ended up having to watch Jen’s video because I just wasn’t getting the written instructions. But happy with the end results.
- Finished Week 1 blocks of the Tula Pink Butterfly Quilt and got them labelled by sections.
- Finished Week 10 of the Scrappiness is Happiness QAL – Scrap Apple block. Mine is very scrappy but now I am sorta wishing I had done each quadrant monochromatic. This QAL is all Alison Glass fabrics.
- Finished my last tree block for Lori Holt’s Bring Home the Tree quilt.
- Finished Row 9 blocks of my White Hawaiian quilt. I still need to assemble.
- Finished my first Block Wednesday for Sweet Childhood Memories. I am using Tula Pink fat quarter collection Pinkerville with some solids thrown in to round it out. For the background, I found a Tula Pink “stitch” in dark gray from her homemade collection that is perfect for this quilt. I love all my fabric choices for this first block.
- I was able to finish the first border for my Mama Gypsy quilt from 2019.
- On Sunday, I worked on just my EPP block Lost & Found for 3 hours. I was able to finish all the subunits and then finish round 1 of this block. It felt good.
To Do List for Week January 31st – February 6th
I wasn’t sure initially what I wanted to focus on this next week. Between other activities, I’ve wandered over and done a number of fabric pulls for current QAL blocks. With that in mind, this is my to do list for this next week:
- Tula Pink Butterfly Quilt – Week 2 all 10 Chunky Cross blocks
- Tula Pink Butterfly Quilt – Week 3 all 8 Floating Cross blocks
- Week 11 Scrappiness is Happiness 16.5 inch Cross Roads block (with over 50 pieces)
- Block Wed #2 Best Friends of Sweet Childhood Memories
- Block Wed #3 Books of Sweet Childhood Memories
- Assemble Row 9 of my White Hawaiian quilt
- Finish / Bind my March Table Runner at last!!!!
- Finish adding final pieced borders to Mama Gypsy quilt!
- Quilt Blooming Daffodils
- Bind Blooming Daffodils
- Find Rainbow quilt fabric for borders and backing. Decide on plain or pieced border.
- Find or design a pattern for February mug rugs
- Find or design a pattern for February pot holders.
Those last two items will round out my Valentine/February home decor set for my kitchen island. I will at last be able to put away all the valentine fabrics I have been hoarding for two years (or make a quilt?!) I did a pieced heart block for the table runner. I am heavily leaning towards applique for the last two. So the mug rug will probably be a heart applique, but I also say a cute envelope pattern that might be awesome as potholders. So many cute ideas.
Wrap Up
I am happy to have made the time to do the quilting marathon. It really helped me mentally be in a better head space with my quilty projects. As of today, I have no other planned starts for February except the potholders and mug rugs. I intend on spending the next three weeks home catching up on all the new QAL I joined and to finalize other projects.
APQ Resolution
My quilt project for January was #3- Mama Gypsy. The center and the pieced borders were done but needed to add the inner & pieced borders to the center and find the backing. It turns out that the hardest thing for this project was finding the quilt instructions. Sometime since I originally made the pieced borders, I put “away” the instructions instead of leaving them with the WIP. It literally took me hours to find. I almost re-ordered the pattern when I thought of looking in “one more place.” Re-organizing your sewing space can sometimes backfire. LOL!!!
#6 was pulled for February which is my May 2020 Pat Sloan HST Rainbow quilt. I once again have the center done. I need a border and backing. I remember buying yardage for this quilt so February will be hunting this down and deciding on a border and getting it ready to be quilted. I think I should have yardage for the back of this quilt as well. Good news is I know exactly where the instructions are!
January Recap
I haven’t really had a lot of new starts for a while since I have been trying to quilt my WIPs but this month I jumped into the fire! I had 3 new starts – Butterfly Quilt, Sweet Childhood Memories, and 2023 Monthly Color Challenge. Currently I do not have any January finishes, but I still have today to maybe squeeze out finishing the March Table Runner. Keep your fingers crossed. As of today, I have 93 WIPs.
I wish everyone the best of luck this next week. Stay warm and safe in your sewing room!

Forward progress on a lot of projects is awesome! I still haven’t finished Jan. APQS UFO but it is very close to becoming a finished top — maybe today. I had to see what #6 is and it is a bunch of blocks with maybe 3 more needing to be done and then made into a top. Heck, if I have any luck maybe I’ll have a completely finished quilt for this month. My biggest issue is not having backing fabrics. Good luck on your projects in February.
Thanks Bonnie for your kind words and encouragement. Good luck with your APQS UFO. I didn’t finish mine for January but I am still plugging away on it.
Peggy your success in moving your projects along continues to amaze me. They are all beautiful. Great job on last week’s list. Your marathon worked. Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday. Happy sewing this week.
Thanks Carol for the encouragement. Until next week!
Peggy you are amazing with everything you get done. I’m sure Simba keeps you on track. 😉 I love the Blooming Daffodils and all your pretty projects and plans are inspirational!
Thanks Linda. Simba is definitely an organizer. Last night he was rearranging my needles for me. I now have a telescoping magnet 🧲 to help me find them. I’m excited to finish the daffodils. The backing and binding was another lost item after I reorganized. I was so thrilled when I found the right box! Thanks again for all your lovely encouragement.
Peggy, I would love to know what the secret is to not letting stitches show on EPP. I am in awe of your handwork! My stitches are not showing as much anymore. I think I need magnification for my eyes so I can see just two threads of fabric. I have tried the other ladder back stitch and find it very awkward and painful for my hands. Love all the color in this blog! But my favorite thing of all is Simba, what a sweetie!
Hi Dawn. To be honest, I don’t worry about my stitches showing in my EPP. I try to use matching thread and lots of tiny stitches so you see them less, but otherwise I don’t worry. I heard one EPPer say that them seeing our stitches and knowing it was hand sewen was the point. All that effort should be acknowledged. I love ❤️ colors 🌈 ! The brighter the better. Simba loves to help.
