To Do Tuesday #34

Hi Everyone! This is Simba and I am writing this week’s blog because Mom is in the sewing studio. (She was busy with the holidays and is now getting some fun time in the sewing studio.) I asked her if it was okay (since we are co-bloggers) to write this week. She told me to give it a whirl. So here we go….

My grandson Shaun, my son Steven, and Me

We will be linking up with Linda over at Texas Quilt Gal one last time. Hi Linda!!!

What Got Done This Week

I was very helpful this week. I helped Mom when she was cutting, sewing, or quilting. But we didn’t get as much time in the sewing studio since we were hosting Christmas Eve Dinner this year. We had lots to do. We still had to put up the Christmas Tree, shop, and cook.

  1. Mom finished the Rose Quilt binding. I absolutely love this quilt. I sat on it as she was attaching the binding. It was also my favorite cat hammock. Now that it is done, I find it wherever she puts it so I can take a nap. It is so warm and cuddly. I got so distracted taking a nap on it on Christmas Eve that I forgot to help Mom in the kitchen. Lucky for me she had lots of help in the kitchen and didn’t need me.
  2. Last night we worked on finishing the tree block for her Bringing Home the Christmas Tree quilt. I took the tree trunk units to my my sister Nala so she could admire them. Mom seemed annoyed that she had to hunt down the units to finish her block. Nevertheless, she gave us both lots of loves and kisses.
  3. I even helped Mom when she was cutting out the Scrappiness is Happiness block. She kept moving my booty out of the way so I wouldn’t get my tail cut. When she finally got all the pieces cut, I escorted her over to the sewing machine. She didn’t get far because I had to remind her it was dinner time and we all needed to eat. But the block is going to be a very cool pumpkin.

Week 34 To Do List (Dec 27th to Jan 2nd)

Mom’s list is really long again. She has added a new project to the list so I am looking forward to rolling in the fat quarters for that project. She pulled out a basket of fabric for the Christmas quilt. Nala likes that fabric. She was digging around in the fabric looking to see what they all looked like. Mom had to pick it all back up and put it in the basket. I was a PERFECAT gentleman. Here is Mom’s list for this week. We are going to have so much fun!

To Do List #1 – Quilt March Table Runner

I know Mom has shown you this one before so I didn’t think you needed to see it again. I like laying on it. She was going to quilt it earlier this week but I decided I needed to nap, so she let me.

To Do List #2 – Bind March Table Runner

Mom needs to find some material to be the binding and make it still, but I have faith in her that she will get the binding made and attached to the table runner. Go Mom!

To Do List #3 – 10″ Design Board Finish

I don’t know why she bothers. Nala and I love them just the way they are. Oh! She said she likes her design boards to be pretty. Fair enough.

To Do List #4 – Make Last Tree Block

I am so excited. Nala and I really loved all the pieces she had on her big design board. We love stealing the pieces while she is sewing and having a scavenger hunt. It is a fun game.

To Do List #5 – Assemble Tula Pink Tiny Beast Top
Rows 1 & 2 of Tula Pink quilt using Tiny Beast layer cake and True Colors jelly roll

Hmmm. Nala and I don’t remember these quilt blocks. What kind of tiny beast are on the quilt?

To Do List #6 – Row 9 of Hawaiian Quilt
Hawaiian Quilt rows 1-6

Nala says that she likes the rainbow. I don’t see so good so I am not sure what she means. What’s a rainbow? I told Mom I would help her cut some more sashing for the blocks. I tried to help her last night but for some reason, she left me laying on the white fabric.

To Do List #7 – Finish Week 8 Scrappiness is Happiness

Oh I know what this one is! This is the tall pumpkin block. My Mom picked out some real pretty Alison Glass fabric to be the pumpkin. I wanted a different color but she said she would let me pick this week’s block fabric.

To Do List #8 – Week 9 Scrappiness is Happiness

Mom said I could pick out the fabric from her Alison Glass collection. I asked her what the block was and she told me it was a stocking. She said she would like red, but I did get to pick out any fabric I wanted. Yea me! Mom is so nice to me. No Nala. Mom said I get to pick it out. You can do the next one.

To Do List #9 – Load Halloween Quilt on Long Arm

I can’t wait! We are putting another quilt on the cat hammock. What?! Mom, please let me and Nala take naps on it. What do you mean we stretch it out? (we will sneak on it when she’s not looking).

To Do List #10 – Quilt Halloween Quilt

I hate it when she is quilting. Mom gets so mad when Nala and I jump up on the table to look at the big old machine moving. She definitely gets put out when I pull the thread out of the sewing machine. I really love the big spools of thread. One time I pulled the thread through the sewing room to the kitchen and even to the living room. Nala loved it too. Nala likes to take the whole spool but I told her no that wasn’t nice.

To Do List #11 – Cut 4 365 Blocks

Cutting! Yea! It is always fun when we are cutting things. She said she hoped to cut July 3, 4, 5 & 6. That seems like a lot to me, but I will be there backing her up the whole way.

To Do List #12 – Finish Round 1 on Lost & Found block 21

I have no idea what English Paper Piecing is. This is something she does when she leaves the house with Shaun. Shaun likes Nala better than me, but I am the better cuddler. I always squeak when Shaun picks me up. He says I am huge. Good luck on this one Mom. I think she forgot that Shaun isn’t here this week.

To Do List #13 – Start Childhood Memories

Mom and I watch YouTube videos all the time. One of her favorite is Pat Sloan in the Sloan Zone. So we get to start a new quilt on Wednesday with Pat. Mom says she has picked her fat quarters. Of course, Nala and I would like to inspect Mom’s choices to see if we can make any suggestions.

To Do List #14 – First 2 patch into a Leaders Enders block

Mom spent this week designing a complete project she wanted to make with all these two patches of white and aqua she has been sewing together for several months now. I got bored when she started drawing in her notebook and she wouldn’t let me keep bumping her pen to get a good chin scratch. She told me to add this to the list because she wants to do her first 25 patch block to see what it looks like.

Wrap Up

Simba preparing to blog

Whew! All this writing is wearing me out. I am so ready for a nap. Where did Mom put that ROSE quilt. Nala is already napping. (Yawn)

Mom has lots of things to work on. She said she would be staying home with us this week. I asked her to spend more time in the sewing studio instead of reading her book. Nala and I like it when she sews. It is way more fun for us.

Happy New Year Everyone!

  1. Hi Simba! Great job co-blogging!! You crack me up! I love how you are taking turns with Nala on picking fabric. Oh and rainbows are like all of mom’s fabric. Colors like fabric range from super soft and cuddly to hard like the kitchen chairs all layered on top of each other! Their pretty cool! Happy Mew Year!!

  2. Hi Simba – tell your Mom hi for me! Looks like Mom had a happy Christmas. I laughed out loud about you stealing, er, taking the tree trunk units to your sister. 😀 Your Mom has so many pretty projects going on, I don’t know what she’d do without your help. You would get along great with my Toby, who loves to pull the batting off my design wall. He wants me to play with him instead of staring at fabric. He loves hammocks too and sometimes pulls it loose from the rails. Anyway, I think you did a great job, and thank you for sharing Mom’s stuff with To Do Tuesday!
