To Do Tuesday #114

Welcome Back! We are have one of the hottest weeks of the whole year. It has been over 95 (and most of the time 100) for the past 7 days. Crazy weather. My first week of my October Temperature cottage will be all one color since it is rare to be over 92F here in San Jose. My house is going to be pretty though!

I will be linking up for To Do Tuesday with Carol @ Quilt Schmilt. Come take a look at what everyone is doing.

Under the Needle Last Week

2024 SJ Temperature Cottage – A free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop

I was a little behind coming into October, but quickly caught up. I finished up the September cottage. I love how colorful it was. We had a lot of hot days and cool days during October compared to July & August. Imagine my surprise when I started pulling the HST for the October cottage yesterday. For the first time I will have 7 days in a row with the same color. My hottest temperature is 92F+. We had temperatures this past week as high as 104 and no lower than 94. it will be interesting to see how the rest of October turns out. I am just loving this fabric collection from Alison Glass – Chrysanthemum. It has been so pretty. I go from Dark Magenta to Purple (92 and higher to 51 and below). So darn pretty!

Everything else

Yesterday I was thinking I had not done much this week. When I went in to do one more foundation paper pieced block, I was looking around my sewing machine and realized that I had worked on steps for a number of projects without realizing it.

Here is what I got done:

  1. I trimmed up 32 half square triangles after making another 8 this week for my temperature quilt.
  2. Finished the September Temperature Cottage, the third row of the quilt, and then assembled with January – June.
  3. Pulled out the beginnings of the October Cottage and cut another magic 8 HST triangle to be sewn for all those HOT 🥵 hst I am using up.
  4. I sewed two more strip sets for my son Steven’s Sharks Rail Fence quilt from National Jelly Roll Day.
  5. Cut those strip sets into eight 10 inch blocks
  6. Made all four of the foundation paper pieced Economy blocks for the 2024 Venti AG Sunprint quilt. It was weird having the background color as the outside and not seperating my aqua and green. But to get the effect I want in the quilt, that is how this block is sewn. This pattern was another FREE Fat Quarter Shop pattern.
  7. I finished the last of the leaders and enders blocks that I was sewing based on a free pattern from Pat Sloan (I love quilts). It was her 2023 March Block of the Day challenge where I used Tula Pink’s Daydreamer layer cake and Tula Pink’s True Color Solids Jelly Roll.
  8. October’s Monthly Color Challenge Block, color Black/Grey, fabric pull and cut. I am using my Alison Glass fabric stash for this. I have no idea which collection the fabrics are.
  9. Finished prepping the binding for both Bunny Knoll and my Patriotic Table Runner. All ready to sew on.
  10. After changing all my rotary blades this weekend, I trimmed up Bunny Knoll in prep for binding. It was like cutting butter with a sharp knife – Easy.

I have been busy this week like everyone else. I did spend some time working on my October goals but nothing has been finalized yet. This Friday I will get to have a Quilt Zoom day with my friends. I look forward to these so much. I have been working on prepping things to sew Friday. I see cutting in my future 🔮

  1. The Temperature Cottages will certainly be colorful with those high temps! Those Sharks Rail Fence blocks are really neat. Enjoyed the photos of Nala. Thanks for the reminder to change my rotary blades. Why I wait so long is beyond me!
