Quilt Diary: Sept 2019 One Monthly Goal

September is here and it is time to linkup with Elm Street Quilts for the One Monthly Goal. I have been thinking about this for the last few days wondering what I should commit to. Thinking about what is close to being done and I just need a little push. I narrowed down to four possibilities: Schoolhouse mug rugs, Blooming Pansies, Autumn wall hanging, or pulling out my Halloween/October placemats. The verdict is: Halloween/October placemats! It is time to pull them out of the closet and finish them up. So I am committing to making four October placemats with my purple, black, and orange kitty fabric.  See above for sample.

Applique Update

Schoolhouse Wooly Mug Rugs

I worked on them this weekend while at the hockey tournament and was able to finish all the whip stitching for all colors except red and burgundy.  I am very close to being done with this phase.  Of course, this is the easy part for me.  I struggle with the embroidery embellishments.  This project doesn’t have as much as some of the others.  I haven’t looked to see if it is a new stitch or not.  Making the apples will be fun.

A Year in Words – Autumn

This one is almost done.  I have some backstitching to do on the leaves and apples, the hanging sleeve, and binding.  Soooo very close.   It will be nice.  I have a cute Leaves hanger for it.  Can’t wait to be done.

Blooming Series – Pansies

I have not worked on this at all.  Nothing new to show.  Just have purple machine applique left.

Sew-A-Long Updates

Mama Gypsy Quilt QAL

I missed my weekly goal with Amy on this one.  I had hoped to have row 2 & 3 done by Sunday night, but it was finished on Monday night.  So I reset this week’s goal to finishing row 3 & 4.  Last night found me sewing together and ironing row 1 & 2.  Then laying out and prepping row 4.  It is all set to be sewn this week.  This will finish up the center of the quilt.  After this I will have to add the black borders, then piece the next border.  Hmmmm.  Stay focused on Row 4 for now.

Rows 1 – 3

#100days100blocks2019

I am still current on this one.  There were a few close moments this year as my attention was elsewhere and I did not realize I had run out of premade blocks.  We are set until Friday now.  I even have done the fabric pull for the next 6 blocks.  When I am ready, I have enough blocks to put together rows 6 & 7.  Here is September 1st – 4th (blocks 63-66).

I keep plugging away at block 27 Darting Birds.  Since each unit looks the same, there is not much point in posting another pic.  I am wrapping up 3rd out of 4 units.  Close to be done!

Cosmos Mystery Quilt with Cotton Cuts

Clue number 2 arrived yesterday.  I read all the instructions and organized all of the precut pieces.  Even sewed step one.  Exciting stuff!

Other projects on the sewing table

I have been staring at quite a few other projects.  I haven’t actively worked on anything else right now.  I did pull out the Tula Pink Charm Squared blocks and I keep staring at my NYE quilt.  I keep staring at my accuquilt as I need to cut some more triangles for my Halifax Temperature quilt as well as update my notebook with temperatures through August 2019.  None of the other couple hundred WIPs have I touched.

That’s it for today!

Happy Quilting and Safe Journeys!
