We have been back for almost two weeks, yet I don’t feel like I have any time to sew. I have been putting in a lot of hours at work. Meetings all day and my actual work at night and weekends. Every November seems to get like this. Just Crazy! When I get home, I am exhausted. There is no food in the house again. #sigh I currently am not seeing an end to this grueling pace. I will get a break next week when we head to Halifax for American Thanksgiving. That will be nice.
Sewing on the Go Progress
Ruby’s Garden Quilt (English Paper Piecing)
This is one of the things I have actually been doing when I do come home even if it is only 15 minutes. I am working on block 4/83 and am actual quite pleased with my progress. I even managed to cut 2 1/2 squares in preparation to glue baste another four blocks. I am really liking the fabric and can’t wait until I have a bunch of different combinations done. My first time through I am doing mirror images of all the fabrics. After I finish the next four, I will probably start some mix and matching with the remainder squares. I may even end up with some scrappy blocks since I don’t really like wasting fabric. Here is my first four blocks!
Farmer’s Wife 1920 Quilt (English Paper Piecing)
This is another project that I feel I am making pretty good progress. I really thought I would get more done in Long Beach but I am still happy that I have finished Block 35 – Flower Basket and am almost halfway with Block 36 -Flower Garden Path. Loving this all yellow/gold block. It is so bright and cheerful. This quilt is going to be absolutely a rainbow with all the gorgeous Alison Glass Fabrics.
Wooly Mug Rugs (wool applique)
I seemed to have stalled out here. I am still on the second of two mug rugs. I have finished appliquéing all the pieces down in the brown. These ones don’t even have a lot of embroidery embellishments. Here is a quick look at my progress on number 2 turkey.
Jack ‘Lanterns are still in need of whip stitching the applique pieces to the background so I am carrying them around.
On the Sewing Table Update
Tablecloths
The borders are now sewn on fronts and backs of both tablecloths. I pulled the brown I decided on to extend the patio tablecloth to 26″. I am pleased with my color choices. I have no idea why I am not done yet. Time is running out and I have to be done by next Tuesday. I am totally loving them so far. The large regular tablecloth is ready to be sewn together. I will be trying my hand at sewing straight lines after matching up the four patch centers. If I have time, I hope to throw together a table runner for her island. Here is to having more time this upcoming weekend to do this.
Halloween Placemats
I sooo fell off the wagon here. They are literally sitting around with the binding waiting to be sewn. I have no idea why I don’t just do it! Being tired is not a valid excuse right? I did not finish this for my #onethingwithamy the week of the 8th, last week, so maybe this week?
Halloween Mug Rugs
I found my circle cutter. I have my background fabric. I have scrap batting. I decided I would quilt the front and backs together before applying the hexie flower. Another one that literally would take an hour to finish up.
Potholders
I have 3 sets of potholders sitting on my sewing table. The fronts and back are cut and pieced. I just need to layer, quilt, and bind. Count it. Three!!! Maybe part of my problem is how close I am to finishing so many things. I just need to start checking them off.
Tula Pink Charm Squared Quilt
This is hanging out on my sewing table just waiting for me to put together the rows. The sewing table is a wee bit crowded with all these almost finished projects.
Halifax Temperature Quilt
I keep plugging away at this project as feeders to other projects. It is almost time to record a few more months and sew together the first year of coloumns.
Applique Update
A Year in Words
I have two of these that I am currently working on. Just a reminder. These wall hangings have a pieced aspect and an applique part.
The Halloween is pieced, fused and batting attached. I have started the machine applique. So far I have finished only orange on this one. I decided I have a boo boo and have dug out the background fabric to fix it before putting the back on at which time I will quilt the background. This is a cute wall hanging.
I am working on the November – Give Thanks one as well. For this one all the fabrics have been cut and the half square triangles are sewn. They are actually sitting next to the sewing machine with all of my above projects. I still have to fuse the other side of it. I was originally waiting until I finished putting the top together before working on my other projects. I decided I will just come back with thread colors later to finish whatever.
A-Door-Naments
I fused this up at the beginning of November so I can sew this as I work on the October ones. It uses a number of the same thread colors. The leaves are cute. I have finished orange and brown threads so far. Just have red and yellow left.
Blooming Series
I have three of these in process. The oldest one is my Blooming Pansies. Just need to do the purple thread on this one then it will be ready for the quilting phase.
My Blooming Pumpkins are adorable. I have finished orange so far on this one. Next up is brown. The pumpkins were very involved but the rest should go quickly.
I started machine appliquing the Blooming Leaves last weekend. I was able to do the machine applique in brown and orange threads. Once I finish brown on my other applique projects, I will move forward with red, magenta, and gold. The vase is adorable and fun. This will be a great finished project.
Sew A Long Updates
100 Days 100 Blocks 2019 – Fusion Sampler Kitchen Sink style
Caitlin keeps asking me the progress of this project as it has been tagged as a wedding gift. The wedding has come and gone. Half the rows are together. I just need to sew the other half together and decide on some borders. Currently no planned progress.
2019 Quilters Planner Block of the Month
It is that time where I need to sew together the blocks for this month. They are cut, just waiting to be sewn. December is putting the top together. I like that idea. This one has no future home currently. Just want to finish it up.
Hockey Update
We finished up Long Beach weekend with 3 wins and one tie leaving us tied for third place. We do not have any other tournament weekends until January but we have some local games in December against the other NorCal teams (total of 3 including us). January will find us in So Cal and Orlando which should be fun!
Safe travels and happy quilting,
Peggy
