How is your January going? We have had a lot of rain here in San Jose, California but today is absolutely beautiful and sunny. Makes me think about going to see the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo. We will see how the next few days play out.
I have spent more time quilting then stitching this week so I don’t have as much to share. Yet, I feel pretty good about what I have gotten done.
Starts & Finishes
I am excited because I have three finishes and one start this week! Let’s take a look.
FINISH: 2023 San Jose Temperature Butterflies designed by Stitchin Mommy
I decided to add the year and town at the bottom just so I would know 10 years from now what it was for. I really enjoyed stitching this project. It was fun! I can’t believe I stayed current all year. There is a few colors I want to change for my library but they look fine for the butterflies.
This was stitched on 14 count vintage blue whisper with DMC. Love it!
FINISH: November Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks
Woohoo! This was the last of this monthly series that I started in 2021. Now that I have finished everything, I still enjoyed stitching the corn 🌽 and pumpkin border the most. Of course, I have loved making the houses each month. Now I just need to frame them.
This series was stitched on 16 count beige aida with the called for Classic Colorworks floss.
START & FINISH: January Month 2 Month button by Stitching with the Housewives (WIPGO project)
The snowman is a little odd in this project but he is definitely unique! My favorite part was stitching the center “SNOW”. I don’t think you can tell, but it is stitched with three different Classic Colorworks blues on 14 count white aida.
This was the first of five times to work on the January Month 2 Month charts. This weekend I will be starting the barn chart. I can’t wait.
WIP Updates
I am doing today’s blog on Thursday because Friday will be a Quilt Zoom day and I ended up not having a lot of free time in the evenings as I have been working on a Physical Challenge this week to ring in 2024. I have ended up taking long walks in the evening instead of stitching. LOL!
Let’s Talk Winter by Hands on Design
This was a short night but I did finish with the white of snowman and started on Brr. I originally only planned on stitching once this month, but maybe….. I am a third of the way already so who can resist such progress.
Christmas Calendar by Tiny Modernist (WIPGO Project)
I was pleased to finish Day 6 all in one sitting. I was originally going to go across but realized I need to do down to make sure I have plenty of room and didn’t miscalculate again on this chart. String of lights were definitely fun! Of course, I love the yellow light the best.
I am stitching on 28 ct graceful gray linen. Easy to stitch on with DMC floss.
Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embrodiery
Another night when I didn’t have a lot of time but wanted to do something. So I worked on the filled in border below the octagon last night. Just love this stitch!
Upcoming Plans & Thoughts
I have been procrastinating again with working on Winter Camper which I keep moving forward on the calendar. At this rate it will take me a couple of years to finish this silly chart. LOL!
I need to plan my trip to Nevada. I thought I was going to go week of the 15th but now I have Grandma duty because Shaun’s mom will be gone to So Cal for a week with her Aunty. Now I am looking at the week of the 22nd going there. I need to redo my stitching calendar because I only like going with one or two projects for those long trips. Here is what is on the calendar for the week currently:
- Start January Month 2 Month barn
- Winter Camper
- Snow Village
- Shabby Winter Calendar
- June Calendar Crates
- July Truckin Along
- Christmas Calendar
- Snowman Collector: The Clown
- Fruit of Plenty
- Snowballs for Sale
I know this is going to change but I have not done the juggling around yet. I also still need to figure out what I need for my 2024 SJ Temperature Library, as well as order my fabric for Monthly Markings, Season 2 Year of Celebration, and Fabulous Houses. I will need to check if I have the floss on hand for those projects as well. All of these projects are suppose to be new starts in January and here we are a third of the way through the month already.
Wishing everyone a great weekend! Best of luck on all of your creative endeavors.

Temperature Butterflies is so pretty – nice finish! Good luck with your physical challenge. I plan to get back on the treadmill this morning – it’s too cold to walk outside. A trip to Nevada sounds like fun!
