Welcome to another edition of Floss Friday. Hard to believe it is already the last Friday of August and summer is coming to a close. Crazy to say the least. This is the first summer since 2020 that I didn’t travel. With all the travel with hockey, it was kind of nice to be home for an extended period with some day trips here and there.
Starts & Finishes
I had my fourth finish of August which was nice. Still hoping to squeeze out two more finishes but it is not looking as good as I was hopiing.
FINISH: August Celebration (Year of Celebration) by Hands on Design
Those ants were interesting to make. I am sure glad to be done with them! Just four more in this series. This was stitched on 16 ct dirty aida with called for flosses from Classic Colorworks, Weeks Dye Works, Gentle Arts, and DMC.
WIP Updates
WIPGO Project: Mr August (A Calendar Gnome) by Charlie’s Needle
Finished up my fourth night out of five for this month’s goal. I making progress on this complicated stitch. I am just working my way through each item.
June Snapshot by Pine Mountain Designs
This is a cute one and I am always surprised how long it takes to stitch these. The look so simple. I mean, they are simple, just dense. This one is being stitched per the kit I got from Fat Quarter Shop and honestly, I like the original colors much better. Oh well.
Prim Stitch by Lori Holt (Bee in my Bonnet)
Still plugging away on this project I started in 2020. I am very close to being done. I liked working on the pears.
August Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks
I was able to make some great progress on this small sampler. Finished the center and first inner border and got a great start on the second border.
Let’s Talk Summer (Framed) by Hands on Design
Sigh…. I really wish I was farther along on this stitch. Not sure why I am stitching so slow on this one. I really like it. This one will be put away until next year when September starts.
Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery
Making great progress on this. I am almost halfway already. This was my first jumbo project and I think it is coming along nicely.
June Stackables by It’s Sew Emma (Fat Quarter Shop)
I was able to wip out the umbrella this week. I didn’t have a lot of time to work on it as I was quilting late that day. Loving the colors chosen for this banner.
Honey of a Tiny Town by Heart in Hand
I just love all these tiny towns. They are a blast to work on. It felt good to pull out this very unususal Navy Blue by CCW – Blacksmith Blue for the large house.
Upcoming Plans & Thoughts
Whew! One week left in the month. I am still optimistic that I can squeeze out two more projects including one of my WIPGO Projects (Tea Thyme).
On my planner I have one open date as I wait to see if I need it for either Tea Thyme or June Truckin Along or even Temperature Butterfly for July. Here is the list of planned projects for this last week:
- Tea Thyme (x2)
- July Temperature Butterfly
- Last time for Fruit of Plenty
- Last time for Snowman Collector
- Mr August
- June Truckin Along
- FFO – Caitlin’s Map so she can take home with her
I also have to work in some planning time for September. I saw the WIPGO list last night and I am relieved that it is my two jumbo projects that I have been spending 3 nights a month on. So….. I am thinking I will pick some projects I am close to finishing to see if I can push through some finishes for them plus I also will need to pull out my Fall WIPs that are on hold. I have to look through my list.
Why do I enjoy planning just as much as doing? September will find me finishing the Nine Patch series which is exciting. I will need to get my happy mail order in this week for any threads or fabrics needed for any starts I plan for September as well.
It is a pleasant 80F (27C) here in San Jose after almost two weeks with a heatwave. Super happy no fires happened despite the storm last week. This time of year is our traditional fire season here in California. My thoughts go to all of you who are dealing with wildfires and other natural disasters.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Nala and Simba look like they are plotting their next naughtiness – lol! They are such beautiful kitties. That Lori Holt cross stitch is adorable, especially the kitty. 🙂
