Welcome to 2023! My first post of the new year. I missed To Do Tuesday this week because I didn’t do anything. Okay not much. So we are jumping into Floss Friday instead. We have a lot to cover since I participated in #NYE12x12 #TeamWIPs.
STARTS & FINISHES
I have not finished anything but I do have THREE new starts.
START: Snowman Collector – The Needleworker by Cottage Garden Samplings
I was so excited to start this on New Year’s Day that I started after just stitching for 12 hours on my NYE WIPs. Ended up I started in the wrong place so I restarted later that day on January 1st. I had the cloth turned the wrong way and the design would not have fit on the cloth. It is better that I discover my mistake now before I went to far.
Optimally I would like to stitch the whole border but for now, I just stitched the first border and then began stitching on my Needleworker. I opted to use 4220 a DMC variegated thread for the border. Since I don’t know what all the charts look like, I can only hope that it will go with everything.
START: Jan Nine Patch by Primrose Cottage Stitches
I am continuing on with this series. I love the simplicity of this stitch. This one is being stitched on 25 ct pewter aida. I love the thread I picked for this one. I have used some called for threads as much as I could. I did have to substitute a few colors, I just don’t remember which ones. I hope to have a finish the next time I work on this one.
START: Let’s Talk Winter – Hello Winter Hoop by Hands on Designs
I have already finished the framed stitch so I had to decide between hoop or pillow. I opted for hoop as it is so small and I have a lot of starts this January. It is being stitched on 16 ct black aida with called for DMC thread. I was very pleased with my start.
FINAL FINISHES
Nada.
Weekly WIP Update
We have a lot to cover here with 12 different WIPS on New Year Eve. Starting a Noon on NYE, I stitched one hour on each project. I found it interesting that any aida project got almost twice as many stitches as an even weave. My linen project didn’t get quite as many stitches as an even weave project. While I would like to say I spent 60 minutes on every project, it was probably closer to 45-50 minutes. Throughout the day, I had to get up stretch, use restroom, eat, walk around, etc so I didn’t get all stiff while working on this challenge. I feel pretty good about the end results.
Prim Stitch by Lori Holt
Prim Stitch #9 is almost complete. I was able to finish all the green on the flowers. Now just need to do the flowers themselves.
Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery
I continued plugging away on Page 4 (April). There is a lot of coverage for this page and it just takes time plotting a passageway that allows me to keep on target. Love this beautiful sampler.
May Calendar Crates by Stitching With the Housewives
I made a lot of progress on this one. I stitched all the red. I finished the main part of the barn and started on the flowers. Looking so good.
Mr. July – A Calendar Gnome by Charlie’s Needle
I was able to finish his hat and start on his face. Felt good!
August Snapshot by Pine Mountain Designs
I continued working on the lady on the beach. Just need to finish the umbrella and border.
Christmas Calendar by Tiny Modernist
I am still trying to figure out how to use what I already stitched over the past 2 years. Meanwhile, I took this opportunity on NYE to restart this stitch. Of course I decided to focus on the white border.
Snow Village by Country Cottage Needleworks
It was exciting to start the actual middle banner for this series. Wish I could have done more than two letters.
Snowballs for Sale by Lori Holt
I began filling in all those snowballs in the wheel barrel. So much white in all of my winter stitches!
Shabby Winter Calendar by Cuore e Batticuore
I began building the roof on the snow globe. Love the color!
Christmas Tiny Town by Heart in Hand
Wow! I can’t believe how fast this stitch is going. I was able to finish the reindeer and his stable.
December Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks
I worked on the house in the center. I felt like I made some amazing progress
Winter Camper by Bobbie G Designs
I continue plugging away at this one, but I sure dread working on it. I messed up in the beginning and have been trying to compensate ever since I created the second snowman in the wrong place. Maybe it will turn out okay or maybe it won’t.
Wrap Up
I have been working on putting my thoughts together on what I want to work on in 2023 as well as exploring the WIPGO 2023 idea. I have not figured out exactly how I am working it all in together yet. Hopefully, I will have more to share next week on the WIPGO idea.
Meanwhile, this week I was kitting together Temperature Butterflies, Nine Patch (which I started), Hello There, A Year in Celebrations, and April Cottage. I had to place an order for a number of fabric and threads to complete these kits.
I am writing to you from Southern California as it is another hockey weekend. I only brought December Sampler of the Month with me to work on with my EPP project while here. The rest of the week when I get back will be focusing on finishing Christmas Tiny Town. I am so very close to being done with that one. I plan on working on Jan 9 patch, Hello Winter, and The Needleworker this week.
It has been pouring cats and dogs in San Jose, but it is fairly dry today here in So Cal. Happy Stitching everyone!

That Jan Nine Patch is just beautiful, but all of your projects are pretty. I love the Fruit of Plenty too. During your breaks on NYE, did you fail to mention “pet the kitties”? 😉 Hope you enjoyed your hockey weekend!
