Well I started this blog 4 hours ago. LOL! I got totally distracted by my sister. Can’t believe we talked for so long. Interesting (as always) about leaving legacy behind for our kids – from a family cookbook, life story, and many other ideas. Which obviously talking about those who have passed and us not getting important information from those loved ones to pass on to the next generation and beyond.
Sisters can gab FOREVER. So I apologize for the delay and I want to get this posted in a timely manner this week as this is the last post for 2022. I have already started working on my word of the year, goals of the year, adventures of the year…. You get my meaning. Let’s get rolling.
Starts & Finishes
I had one planned finish and one hoped to be finish, but no new starts.
FINISH: December Barn Sweet Barn by Lori Holt
Whoo Hoo! I finished the last in the 12 month series. My first series that was finished timely! While Fat Quarter Shop is doing it again, I will pass. There are other small monthly stitches that I want to do in 2023. I am currently working on the Nine Patch Series and am looking forward to different ones by Hands on Designs. Meanwhile, I enjoyed this series. I hope to prepare my final finishes in the next couple of weeks to display in my sewing room.
FINISH: Santa Baby (A Stitch Quarterly by Fat Quarter Shop)
I was over the moon last night stitching the last white stitch. I would like to stitch the other 2 in this December sequence to be displayed together – Rudolph & Mrs. Claus. As those can be a while, I am considering doing them as a bell pull (easier to add to as you finish). Although someone had suggested doing a long pillow which would be cute as all get out. If I went with the second suggestion, then it would be several years before it would be done.
Final Finishes
None this week, but I am hoping to do Let’s Talk Winter 8 x 10, January Cottage, and January Barn Sweet Barn. I have all the materials to get it done. My nephew Micah built me a gramercy cart to organize all of my finishing supplies on. Keep your fingers crossed to get one of these done before hitting the road next Thursday.
Weekly WIP Update
I am liking the progress I made this week and am very excited to share it with you. My Christmas was awesome. It has been nice to have no obligations except to myself this week. I have enjoyed the lazy flow of the days.
Prim Stitch by Lori Holt
When I worked on this one this past week, I exceeded my monthly goals as I began working on the final item – the flower for Prim Stitch #9. I still find working with 25 ct lugana very soothing and easy. I am starting to get very excited as I truly expect to finish this 2020 start in 2023. Since I am a quilter, I have already decided that I will be finishing this as a wall hanging. I just haven’t decided whether I will be leaving it up all year long once I am done. Just so exciting to be on the backend of this project.
August Snap Shot by Pine Mountain Designs
This project always cracks me up. While I hate the fabric chosen for this project (10 ct aida), I love working with the designs. I started this series in 2021 and it would be nice to wrap it up soon. This week I almost finished my goal which was to finish the lady at the beach. I really only have her umbrella and the border left to do.
Christmas Tiny Town by Heart in Hand
Oh My Gosh! I just absolutely love love love this stitch. I already have exceeded my monthly goal which was to finish the center and two houses. I wish I could finish it before year end, but with a 4 hour conversation with my sister and a shopping trip today, not going to happen after all. But definitely soon. So freaking cute!
Snowballs For Sale by Lori Holt
I do not know what it is about Lori Holt’s chart, but they are slow going for me. Nothing hard, just a slow stitch. Sigh. I had really hoped to finish the wheel barrel and the wording on this one in December. I am still working on the wheel barrel. Good news is that I just have the snowballs to finish and that part will be done.
Shabby Winter Calendar by Cuore e Batticuore
I had that I was going to work on Day 3 for this one because I forgot I was working on Page 1. That means I needed to start Day 6 which I did. It is so cute. It is a snowglobe.
Upcoming
So….. This morning I was browsing Instagram for inspiration and decided I would participate in #nye12x12 #teamwips. While I was out shopping this afternoon and kept seeing signs for New Year Eve’s and New Year Day’s hours, I realized TOMORROW is NYE. #%?@ I rushed home to check my current pulled WIPS as I had earlier decided I was going to do WIPS for this New Year’s Eve Challenge and I only have 10 not 12. I am determined NOT to have a new start until January 1st (midnight) so I dug around in my pile of 10 on hold projects to see which ones I am going to add. I am now set for tomorrow. Starting a noon tomorrow I will stitch for an hour on:
- Prim Stitch by Lori Holt
- Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embrodiery
- May Calendar Crates by Stitching with the Housewives
- Mr July, A Calendar Gnome by Charlie’s Needle
- August Snapshot by Pine Mountain Designs
- Christmas Calendar by Tiny Modernist (will be a restart after I messed up earlier this month)
- Snow Village by Country Cottage Needleworks
- Snowballs for Sale by Lori Holt
- Shabby Winter Calendar by Cuore e Batticuore
- Christmas Tiny Town by Heart in Hand
- December Sampler of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks
- Winter Camper by Bobbie G Designs (was saving for January so will be pulling early)
Then at midnight, I will have my first new start of 2023 – The Snowman Collector! I want to stitch the border first but hopefully I will get the first chart – The Needleworker started as well. I am so excited about this Cottage Gardens 2022-2023 release. I am a HUGE snowman fan.
Normally I would be letting you know what I planned on working on during this next week. Honestly, I don’t know for sure. I may spend the rest of the week doing January starts (or not). Or I might pick the one project that is almost done and push to finish it. I am so flustered by the #nye12x12 challenge, that I haven’t gotten that far. It will be a surprise for us all. I started jotting down 2023 projects I wanted to do for quilting and cross stitching. This weekend will be putting those into realistic goals.
Happy New Year’s everyone! I hope you finish out 2022 on a positive note that you can roll into 2023 with joy!
Peggy Stockwell
Peggy I love looking at your projects. You do such pretty work! That snowman series looks fun. I thought about you yesterday as I moved a “cat condo” from one room to another. My husband changed one of the platforms to make it bigger, so they think it’s new – lol! It is in front of a full window that looks out on our bird baths, so they are entertained most of the morning. Hope you have a wonderful 2023!
