Floss Friday #20

This has been a week of procrastination in my life. I set myself a task for the week that is hard for me and now it is being reflected throughout my life. But isn’t that what being human is all about. Overcoming challenges.

If I am honest with myself, it has not been that bad. I am just focusing on what I haven’t done instead of what I have done. So let us switch to what I have done this week.

Starts & Finishes

I have had one start and one finish and they happen to be the same.

October Barn Sweet Barn by Lori Holt
Finished Oct Barn Sweet Barn

I stitched this on 20 count white lugana 2 over 2 (10 ct) using the recommended DMC colors by Fat Quarter. Per their Floss Tube, they are going to do a 2023 SAL as well. I haven’t decided if I will participate until I see the design. The one we have been stitching this year has really appealed to me. I loved how the October turned out!

Final Finishes

None this week

WIP Progress

I worked on various projects but with a Halloween focus in general.

August Cottage of the Month by Country Cottage Needleworks
Aug Cottage of the Month

While this was one my non Halloween stitch, it was a carryover from the prior week on my stitchy goals. I really wanted to finish the house and I did. The roof was very cleverly done with two different shades of taupe and gives a dyed look to the roof.

Including August, I only have three left in this series. I think I am really going to focus on finishing up this series. Then I will work on how I will display it. I am thinking one frame, popping out each month.

Let’s Talk Summer by Hands on Designs

This is my other non Halloween stitch this week. I am so so very close to finishing this one. It is hard to put down.

Oracle Quaker Halloween 2021 SAL by Oracle Facebook Group

I really wish I had planned my time better this October. I would have like to have finished this one up. I am stitching on 14 ct Fabric Flair Cobweb with DMC 310 and leftover oranges. So far I have used Weeks Dye Works Carrot, Pumpkin, and Clockworks. I am almost done with page 2 of 8. I may continue to stitch on this in November but I have several Autumn/Fall stitches I would like to wrap up.

Bats & Boos 2021 SAL by Fat Quarter Shop
Bats & Boos SAL progress

This was a SAL I started last year using Weeks Dye Works leftover from the prior year’s MSAL. I ran out of some colors so I had to improvise on the pumpkins. Now I am down to the cobweb background and the border. While I hope to finish this up by Halloween, I don’t know if that will happen.

I am stitching on 14 ct fabric flair Provence with my stash of Weeks Dye Works. The purple background is making the gray (WDW Graphite) I used for the bats bodies not stand out so I think I will need to outline the bat body in WDW Kohl (black). The center piece seems just fine but there is some gray in the border so we shall see how that looks after being stitched.

I really really would like this 2021 project off the WIP list and I feel like I am so close……

Upcoming

With another hockey trip coming up, I am not sure what will get done. We leave on Thursday morning and I will see if I can get a Floss Tube out while on the road. I will probably take a fall project with me as I have really not planned out November yet.

I want to wrap up both Let’s Talk Summer and Bats & Boos this week with a dash of hoping to finish my Let’s Talk Autumn hoop and Oracle Halloween Quaker page 2 & 3.

Everyone have a great weekend! Hope something here helps you.

  1. I really enjoy your Floss Friday reports. The roof on that cottage is so darned cute! Country Cottage is a new-to-me place, so I’ve pulled that up to peruse later. 🙂 Your improvisation on the pumpkins turned out great, I like the subtle color changes, like in a real pumpkin. Simba has such beautiful markings.
