Floss Friday #145

Welcome to this week’s edition of all things cross stitch. It was a busy week with the cross stitch. Almost did everything I planned but got a little side tracked when I went all patriotic. 🇺🇸

Let’s take a look at my projects for the week.

Starts & Finishes

I went a little off track after receiving my Primrose Cottage order this week. I have an unexpected start to share.

Patriotic Tiny Town by Heart in Hand

I definitely was in a patriotic mood when I started this project on the fourth of July. It was fun to get started on this patriotic version of Tiny Town. I am looking forward to working on it. I am stitching on 16 ct silverfox aida with the called for dmc, weeks dye works, and classic colorworks floss.

Fourth of July Round by Primrose Cottage

I couldn’t resist starting this cutie after receiving my Primrose Cottage order. I am using Cotton & Colour floss and 32 ct Lt Taupe Murano Lugana (that is for my Patriotic Quaker stitch) instead of the called for fabric and floss. This was a free chart from Primrose Cottage. If you are interested you need to signup for their newsletter. Each month they give one cross stitch pattern and one quilt pattern away for free. Yes you can buy them later. This was June’s.

Finish: spring basket #1 by Hands on Design

Spring Basket #1 Finish 7/9/2025

This was on my radar to finish in July and I did it! I really think this is my favorite of the 3 charts. My notes say I stitched on 16 ct dubloon aida but I don’t feel that is correct because I was pretty sure dubloon is a brown not a gray. I will have to double check that. I did use the called for DMC floss and just love how everything pops.

START: Spring Basket #2 by Hands on Design

I wasn’t planning to start the second chart this month, but after finishing the first one, I had some time on my hand and it seemed natural to just start the second one (that would be the one top right) (first one is middle pillow). I used the same floss and fabric as with Spring Basket #1.

WIP Updates

With all of these starts, there were not as much time to dedicate to my WIPs but I made sure to work on my July WIPGO projects as well as a few others. Let’s take a look.

July WIPGO Project: House on Pumpkin Hill by Hello Liz Matthews

I feel like I am making a ton of progress towards my goal of 2000 stitches in July. So far I have 1026 stitches (50%). I love stitching all these pumpkins. It is easy to get sucked in to finishing the next pumpkin. I am using the called for DMC floss and this was a free pattern from Liz’s Pateron last fall. I am having fun stitching this for sure.

July WIPGO Project: Snowballs for sale by bee in my Bonnet (Lori Holt)

I am stoked that I finished his body and so wanted to finish his head but I was just too tired to keep going. The goal for this one is to work on it 5 days in July. Two down and three to go. I am using the the called for DMC floss and 25ct prim lugana fabric.

Christmas Calendar by Tiny Modernist

I was thrilled to finish Day 4 of this long term project. It felt really good to finish this up in two days. I can’t wait to start next month!

Snowman’s Collector: The Shepherd by Cottage Garden Samplings

I am closing in on finishing the third in this series. I just have his hat left and the snowman will be done. I will just need to do the rest of the sheep and snowflakes. So very close. Love how this looks on the 18 ct vintage country mocha aida with the called for DMC, Classic Colorworks, and Weeks Dye Works flosses. So rich.

That is a wrap for all the projects I worked on this week.

Reflections

I feel very much in the flow this past few weeks creatively. I had restarted my daily doodling and daily journalling which I really think kick starts creativity in general. Do you do something every day to help you open up your creativity?

Happy Mail

I received my order from Primrose Cottage this past week. I ordered the flosses and fabrics to do my patriotic stitches as well as their new trio of Stitching charts. I ordered the fabric and floss for those too. I accidentally ordered the paper versus the PDF version of those patterns so I still have to scan them. Maybe an August start. We shall see.

Stitchy to do list

  • Crescent City Velaris (at least 300 stitches from last week)
  • Snowballs for Sale (3 of 5)
  • House on Pumpkin Hill
  • Start & Finish March Square Dance
  • Shabby Winter Calendar Day 14
  • Fruit of Plenty
  • September Calendar Crates
  • 2025 SJ Temp Moon Phases

This should keep me plenty busy this week.

Lindy Stitches midsummer stitch

I signed up for the virtual stitch hosted by Lindy Stitches. It is my first and I am not sure what all I am suppose to be doing. They do have an agenda and it starts 6am July 19th PDT and ends July 20th in the evening. I forgot when. It was $10. I figured what the heck. Let’s see what all the hoopla is all about. Have a great weekend and I will be back next weekend!
