Welcome back my friends. It has been an unexpected productive week. That makes it an exciting week. Let’s take a look!
Starts & Finishes 🏁
This week I was able to finish TWO projects! So exciting.
FINISH: December Snapshot by Pine Mountain Designs
It was great to have an unplanned finish.
I worked on this project earlier in the week. My goal was to just work on this one once this month. I realized at the end of that first night that I was so close to a finish that I couldn’t resist finishing. Then the real push came when the WIPGO draw happened this week.
My favorite part to stitch was Rudolph, although Santa was a close second. Rudolph & Frosty are close to my heart and maybe that is why I made such awesome progress earlier in the week since I was working on Ruddy.
This project was stitched on 10 ct Farmhouse Vintage Cloth with the provided DMC from Fat Quarter Shop Snapshot Club.
FINISH: Fabulous House: Green House by Cottage Garden Samplings
I had this one as a planned finish for this month. When I was reviewing with ya’ll my projects for this week, I was wondering if I had a loose screw. I just couldn’t see myself finishing, but I figured I was game.
Once I got started, I flashed back to why I thought I could finish this one this month. I really had already done all the hard stuff, it was just finishing up the glass house and stitching a few flowers. So after two nights, I wrapped this one up and it has provided me with a great sense of accomplishment.
The beautiful flowers were definitely my favorite part of this project, but the cute little cat was top of the list! My only wish was that I had either picked a brighter white or a piece of the fabric which was darker. Yet I can’t help admiring this piece.
This was stitched on 18 ct stone aida with the called for DMC floss. I originally started with this third in the series because it was a WIPGO project call and it was the first one where I had all the floss on hand.
I plan to now go back to the first one in the series: Santa’s House. Perfect timing right. Don’t think I will be starting it in October (unless at the end) as I am missing most of the floss for this one. Shopping is such a hardship. 😆
WIP Updates 📋
I ended up switching up my plans so I could have these two finishes this week which means I did not work on other projects as planned. My plans were kind of loosey-goosey anyway. Still, I was pleased with my progress.
WIPGO Project: Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery
First up was the fifth and final night on Fruit of Plenty my first real sampler. Can it be called a sampler if there is no alphabet? I don’t know, but this to mean is a very traditional stitch project that I absolutely love. I have grown as a cross stitcher with this project. I just love the colors. It was very satisfying to work on the motif. I am almost done with it, then it will be time to work on the dense inner border like the one on the left-hand side.
I am stitching on 16 ct white aida with Weeks Dye Works Ismaralda and Lagoon.
Seaside Tiny Town by Heart in Hand
The tiny towns are such a joy to work on. I never figure out why it takes me so long to do each building though. It such a tiny little house and I am working on aida. The color choices are always perfect.
This month I finished up the pier, clouds, seagulls and the “Fish” building. It looks so good! I am estimating that I am already 25% done.
2024 SJ Temperature Library by Kristi’s Corner
I finished another 6 days this week. You can see it has cooled off in the Bay Area but the month should finish with a few more hot “books”. With the next six books is the knick-knack for the month. Hopefully, I finish it up. This is has been a fantastic Temperature project.
September Year of Celebration Season 2 by Hands on Design
I had planned on working on this one twice this week. Plans changed and instead I finished off two other projects. While I enjoy the end result of this series, I am finding each month pretty tedious to stitch. I am taking two to four nights to finish up each one which seems so out of proportion for what I am stitching. I finished everything above the flowers this week and have been slowly adding all the details to the flowers. They should be done soon, then there is another “border” below the flowers including the vases that the flowers are in. There is a ton of backstitching this month.
Final Finishes Update ❌
Still struggling with where to share this project.
When I originally finished the 81 patch I hated the colors, but when looking at the actual cross stitch, I totally get these colors. I originally bought the recommend fabrics. I have no idea why I would do that 🙄. I have enough fabric in my stash that it just wasn’t necessary. LOL!
We are halfway to a pillow.
October WIPGO Projects 🎲
On the 24th of September, the random drawing for the next projects were done. I found that I had completed the projects on my list. I considered just taking it as a pass. Then I thought about why I was following and participating in WIPGO: To work on WIPS. My definition of WIPS does include entire series as well as individual projects. So here is what I did.
Project 8: Fall is in the Air by Fat Quarter Shop (A Stitch Quarterly Project)
My Original #8 was Sail Away which I finished in August. I can’t find where I ever shared this finish (which I thought was weird) but here it is.
I decided to replace this finished WIPGO Project with a new unexpected project that I started this month House on Pumpkin Hill. I just literally changed my mind because the other new start this month was Fall is in the Air and I think it is possible to finish it if I make it my WIPGO this month. So that’s what I am going to do! Here is what that one looks like and where it is:
It doesn’t look like it is really too much stitching so this is going to work, right?!
Project 17: October Snapshot by Pine Mountain Design
This was originally December Snapshot but I am happy that instead I will have a new start and maybe I will even finish this in October. Another exciting moment with my WIPGO projects. I just loaded this project into my new cross stitch app Mark R-XP. It took a while, but I find the projects that I work in that are in this app, I seem to zoom through them faster. What an exciting October I am going to have! I love Halloween!
Upcoming Plans & Thoughts 💭
This week’s blog is getting pretty long so I will share the results of September WIPGO next week. Maybe I will even have some progress on October WIPGOs.
I just began today working on my October plan as I have been focused on finishing up September strong. While I was going through my projects, I found that my handwritten goals for two projects were different than I put here. If everything goes as planned, here is the map for the last four days of September:
- Finish September Year of Celebration
- While I would love to finish Pop of Autumn, with the unexpected finish of Dec Snapshot, I am okay with just working on this one again this coming week.
- Work on August Calendar Crates one more time.
- Work on Snowman Collector: The Shepherd one more time.
- September 19-24 temperature books. I think the knick-knack will have to roll into October this next week.
For the first three days of October I don’t have a solid plan, but am thinking:
- September shelf knick-knack
- Work on Pop of Autumn
- Start October Snapshot
- Work on Fall is in the Air
I have a roadmap. We shall see where the road leads us!
Have a great weekend everyone.
