Floss Friday #108

How fast this week went. I had a great time in the Redding area. I found a quilt shop and visited Lassen Volcanic National Park. I even got in a 3 mile hike while I was at Lassen.

It was lovely seeing my daughter for dinner and breakfast a couple of the days. She was working the whole time. She is a scientist and they were there to do fieldwork which did not leave much time for visiting. I knew that but was happy to time my visit to Lassen the same time she was in Redding. Bonus right?

Starts & Finishes 🏁

I had another “start” day this week. I had planned on starting four but only did three. Once again I was messing with loading new starts in Mark R-XP for ios. I like the program but it works best with black and white and original PDF patterns. It takes a lot more work to setup color and scanned charts. The two together is very tough. I am liking the trackability of the program. The information is very useful. I keep playing around, but I think for simple charts, it is best to just keep them in Notability or Goodnotes like I have them now. It is way simpler.

START: House on Pumpkin Hill by Liz Matthews

I am using a 28 ct linen from my stash. Not sure what color it is. This is a free pattern to Liz Matthews Pateron members. She just released this cover. I am noticing that my color of blue (which is called for) seems very dark compared to her cover photo. I realized I had miscounted already. #sigh. Which is very annoying. But overall I am very excited to start this project. This was an easy load into Mark R-XP as it is black and white as well as an original PDF.

START: Autumn Stitching Season by Stitching with the Housewives

I have had this kit for over a year and it was almost a relief to finally start it. I am stitching on the kit 28 ct linen (which I can’t recall exact name for right now) with the called for Classic Colorworks floss. This was a kit from Fat Quarter Shop.

START: Pop of Autumn by Bent Creek

So excited to start my second from this series. The Summer was so easy and fun! This pattern comes as a kit with linen and pearl cotton. I am stitching from the kit.

FINISH: Autumn Basket #3 by Hands on Design
Finished Autumn Basket #3 9/8/2024

It was exciting to finish the last chart in this Triple Play Pillow series for Autumn. I just love the DMC colors that Cathy from Hands on Design picked. They blend so well together. These bear claw blocks were fun to stitch. I can’t wait to make the pillows. I made detailed notes last year when I made the summer pillows.

WhooHoo! It was a sweet moment when I finished the final season of this series Let’s Talk. I even finished the paper decorations for the hoop design. I hope to work on the Autumn finishes this month!

WIP Updates 📋

I was on the road most of this week and managed to get some quality time on my WIPGO project which I took. So happy to show you what got done on my WIPS this week.

WIPGO Project: Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery

I am almost finished with Page 5 of 9 and this is very exciting. I really enjoy working on this project. This page was particularly fun with the making of the center motif ~ the House. I left the original house because it best reflects my own home. There were so real fun choices to make and I was very tempted. But as this is my first sampler and who knows if I will ever do another, I wanted it to reflect what samplers are suppose to reflect ~ a season in your life.

Poor lighting in the hotel room but this cloth is white with teals.

February Month 2 Month Button by Stitching with the Housewives
Feb Month 2 Month Button WIP 9/8/2024

This week anytime I finished up something else and had a few minutes, I got a few stitches in on this cute little chart. So not much time but still like the progress.

2024 SJ Temperature Library by Kristi’s Corner

Started September bookshelf this week. It was a hot one again. We should be nearing the end of all those red books (hot days). Next week we should have days in the 60’s. September shelf should be colorful.

September Year of Celebration Season 2 by Hands on Design
September Year of Celebration Season 2 WIP 9/12/2024

I was going to stitch all the yellow flowers but realized I was loosing track of top and bottom. LOL. So I went ahead and did the tag outline to help me orient my stitches. There are probably a few X’s that are not going the same direction as the others. I have no plans to find and fix them. Consider them texture.

Upcoming Plans & Thoughts 💭

I have no travel plans for the next couple of weeks so I am hoping to make some progress on my September goals. I had a Quilt Zoom day today (Friday) and another one on Monday so that helps in the quilting arena. By the end of this week, I theortically will have touched almost all of my active wips. Here are this week’s plans (subject to change 😝)

  • Start Fall is in the Air
  • Start February Month 2 Month Barn
  • Another night on my WIPGO project: Fruit of Plenty
  • Finish February Month 2 Month Button
  • Work on August Calendar Crates
  • Work on Mr. September Calendar Gnome
  • September 7-12 books in the Temperature Library
  • Work on Autumn Beauties
  • Work on the Snowman Collector: The Shepherd

It is nice looking at my planning calendar and having 5 days with no plans. I will start focusing on my planned finishes. I had a total of 7 planned finishes of which three are done already. I feel on track. Got that warm ❤️‍🔥 fuzzy feeling going. LOL. I originally only planned to have 5 new starts, but after next week I will be up to NINE new starts. Sounds crazy right? Alot of these starts have been kitted for a year or two. It feels good to finish up some longterm projects which are allowing me to start these other projects. If everything goes according to plan (highly improbable but one can hope), then I will only be up 2 WIPs.

Enjoy this fall weather. Hopefully, you have a great weekend!
