To Do Tuesday #25

I don’t know about you, but my week went really well. I got some serious sewing time and made some incredible progress. Starting with our monthly zoom quilting call all the way through the weekend. There was a moment,

Once again I will be joining Linda at Texas Quilt Gal. Thank you again Linda for being host for this weekly event that helps us be accountable and to see cool projects.

What Got Done This Week!

Wow! Way more than I ever thought would. So here is what I have been up to this week.

  1. Halfway done making my 10″ design boards. They are usable as is, but I will be gluing a “binding” on them just to secure my fusible fleece and to look pretty
  2. I finished both June 25th & 26th this week. The 25th took the better part of the a day while the 26th was about 30 minutes.
  3. Finished the October Monthly Color Challenge block. Yea!
  4. Got another row done on the Hawaiian quilt. That makes 5 rows now.
  5. Got the final 40 Tula Pink Tiny Beast blocks squared up and ready to go.
  6. Finished 2 more PIQF 2022 Mystery blocks
  7. Finished 2 more churn dash blocks. This time in blue.
  8. Pulled out the paper pieces and got one of my applique stars on the background for my sister’s potholders.

Super excited to have finished so much.

To Do List #25 for Week (10/25 – 10/31/2022)

I am going to be honest with all of you. I am still struggling to master my Gammill long arm. Trying to work on it a little each week is just not working at all. I ended up going weeks between projects and then it’s like I am starting all over again. The difference of doing this as a business versus a hobby.

Simba was the final straw to developing a new strategy as he so helpfully pulled the top thread out of the machine and wound it throughout my house. Such a big helper – NOT!

I am trying a new strategy for the rest of 2022 and hopefully it will bear more fruit. I have a total 7 quilt tops and table runners that are ready to quilt. So that will be this week’s to do list is to quilt those items as well as finish the one already quilted.

To Do #1 – Name of the Rose Quilt
Quilting on Name of Rose mystery quilt

This one is still on the long arm waiting for me to finish quilting the February Table runner which is using the same backing. So once that is done, I will focus on binding this one. We made the label a while back so, go me!

To Do #2 – February Table Runner
Loaded Rose quilt and February table runner

As mentioned this one is on the long arm already. I just need to change top thread which Simba has so helpfully pulled out so I can load a off white. I do not normally label my table runners. I just write in permanent ink on the back.

To Do #3 – Halloween Quilt
Halloween center

This one will be next up. I have already sewn the backing and the top is all finished. I haven’t decided on binding yet or made a label, but boy it sure would feel good to have this one quilted. When I quilt this one, I am going to use two layers of batting for this fall quilt.

To Do #4 – Fall Quilt
Fall Quilt (Jelly Basket) with first border (gold)

This is the other one I want to really really finish this week. I need to go purchase some wool batting as I want to try quilting with wool. I want to test out how warm it is. The binding just needs to be pressed and I still need to make a label, but otherwise, this one is ready to rock and roll.

To Do #5 – Charming Sun Flower Quilt
Charming Sunflowers with new borders

Now if I really do finish the first four, I want to be ready to keep going this whole week. (I’m even considering making this a two week venture just to keep the momentum going but we will see how I do). This one needs to have the backing pieced, binding cut and pressed, label, and quilted.

To Do #6 – Rainbow Batik Log Cabin
Batik Rainbow Log Cabin

I originally planned on quilting this quilt as is (no borders). Now I have decided to make this square quilt into a rectangle with a top and bottom border only. It will just make me feel better. No side borders though. I have a 108 batik backing already so I only need binding and label after I quilt this one.

To Do #7 – 2018 Quilter’s Planner Sampler Quilt
2018 Quilter’s Planner Sampler Quilt

This is the sister quilt to Charming Sun Flowers. This one I need to piece the back then we can quilt away. I still need to make a label and binding but I think I have the binding picked out.

To Do #8 – March Table Runner
March Table runner top and back

This one I do not plan on doing on the long arm as I have a very simple grid quilting planned and is small enough to quilt on my domestic, but it does need to be quilted and then bound.

Wrap Up!

Nala and Simba as baby kittens

While I don’t know how long it will take me to work through my fear and get started, I wanted to make sure once I get going, I had things ready to quilt. Repetition is the key to not being intimidated. I will be ecstatic if I can make it through my quilting half of these, never mind all the other finishing steps. Quilting the items are the main focus for the week. But while they are quilting, I wanted to give myself finishing steps instead of working on my normal WIPS. So internally I am calling this a finishing week. Send good vibes my way please. I need all the good wishes I can gather. LOL!

To recap quilts I am focusing on to quilt/finish this week:

  • Name of the Rose Mystery Quilt
  • February Table Runner
  • Halloween Quilt
  • Fall Quilt
  • Charming Sun Flowers Quilt
  • Batik Rainbow Log Cabin Quilt
  • 2018 Quilters Planner Sampler
  • March Table Runner

As always, than you for stopping by. Hopefully you will see something that sparks with you.

  1. Oh my I am laughing out loud about Simba’s “helpfulness”! 😀 I totally understand how you feel about learning something new. If it isn’t easy for me, I drag my feet. Your projects are all beautiful, but I LOVE that fall quilt! Nala and Simba are so cute. Sending really good vibes your way and thanks for sharing with To Do Tuesday!

    1. Thanks for the good vibes, but I chickened out this week. So I will try again soon. I really really need to finish these quilts. Thank you so much for your support!
