Quilt Diary: Sunflower Finish and July OMG

This post will be quick today as I am only going to talk about what I have worked on in the past few days since my last post.  You add that the weekend is still in full swing and I have not done as much as a normal weekend (yet).  I also have been focusing on finishing my baby rag quilt to take to Halifax on Wednesday.  Here are a few progress pictures and I will post on that hopefully in the next day or two!

A-Door-Naments by Shabby Fabrics

I have been trying to work on the applique projects at least once a weekend.  This weekend I did olive green thread so I could finish up the Sunflower.  I love that I found in my stash of hangers this adorable Sun to hang it up.  Yea! for a timely August finish.  I will be linking this up with my #2019FAL host Capitola Quilter in October.  The original third quarter goals can be found here.

The green thread found me close to finishing up the Apples and Jack ‘O Lanterns.  Just need an dark green, orange, and red thread day!  I did go ahead and sew together the Jack ‘O Lantern front & back and topstitch the edge while I had dark blue thread in the machine yesterday for the baby quilt.  This particular series it has worked out better to machine applique AFTER it is layered and sewn together.  They end up having no other quilting so it just looks better.  As you can see they are very small wall hangings.

Blooming Series by Shabby Fabrics

The green thread night leads me into my August One Monthly Goal that I will be linking up with my host Patty at Elm Street Quilts.  As anyone who reads my blog knows, I always have 10-20 projects going on at any one time so choosing was tough for me this month.  I had several that were given serious consideration but I settled on finishing the Blooming Series – Apple which is for September.  I have a good start on the machine applique  with the green thread last night but there is red, pink, burgundy, and brown left to do.  I started this project August 2018 and it is still hanging around.  I really would love to get this one up on my wall at work for the month of September.  With the help of #onethingwithAmy and my Quilter’s Planner I have been making progress.  So the goal this month is to – Finish machine appliqueing, layer, baste, quilt, and bind this quilt by August 31st.

Green thread night also lead to today finishing up the green on the pansies blooming series as well.  Nice progress but a lot of colors left to go on this one!

Quilt Challenges or Sew-A-Longs

Since I last posted I have finished a few more blocks for the #100days100blocks2019 SAL.  Cutting and sewing a few more of these before Wednesday is on the to do list.  One thing I have noted, I hate fussy cutting so I tend to be very bad at it.  Maybe next year, I will really really try fussy cutting (or not).

I’ve also sewn up all my blocks for the #365blockquiltchallenge that were cut.  I started this challenge in 2018.  So here is the latest block done.img_2034-1

I also wanted to throw in my fabric pull for the #mamagypsyquiltqal that I did for the center blocks.  I am trying to use fat quarters only from my Tula Pink Zuma collection along with Black as my background.  No sewing, just planning and doing fabric pulls so far.img_2051

I am wrapping it up for today.  The finishalong with Capitola Quilter requires a different post for every finish so you will be blasted with a few as I am wrapping up a number of projects to take on the trip.  I leave you with a picture of the old man of the house – Russ.  A sweet and very loving gentleman who is living his golden years.
