To Do Tuesday #97

Hello Everyone! Today is the beginning of a predicted week long heat wave 🥵 so I am currently in my local Starbucks staying cool watching the blue sky slowly become hazy with the heat. I am thankful that I actually have AC which was not the case before this house. #thankful

We will be linking up with Carol over at Quilt Schmilt for To Do Tuesday.

UFO Update

Let’s take a look at May UFO’s

May UFO Quilt: 2021 Sunshine Quilt by Cozy Quilts
Nala and Sunshine Quilt WIP with side borders 6/2/2024

My May Quilt UFO was the 2021 Sunshine Quilt from a long ago strip club project. I love this project and am thinking that NO ONE is going to want to steal this one because it is so bright and cheery. I have been wrong before. Last week I tried to work on it but with all the fabrics I had pulled and/or purchased, none actually went well with my pieced units that I finished. I took a step back to figure out what color was going to work. I tried aqua, teal, breen, orange, yellow and white. Nothing really worked. Then I noticed that there was a salmony red in the quilt. I had an aha moment. That is Alison Glass’s favorite shade of red, so I pulled my Alison Glass red bin. Found the perfect fabric but only had a yard. I needed two!

I placed my order (along with another five yards for another UFO quilt). It came this week! I was thrilled and then started cutting my 7 yards of fabric in the required increments for my two quilts. I was so excited, I started cutting 6.5 inch strips to work on my pieced border. I finished the side borders and attached. I love it! I still need to finish top and bottom borders. I did decided that this color would be a perfect binding as well.

My helpers did a through inspection this week and had an undercover meeting which ended in a unanimous approval.

Blooming Pointsettas WIP 5/28/2024 under the needle

I did not finish the applique on this project but I did get five of the flowers appliqued this month. Seven to go. When I finish stitching these intense little flowers, it will be time to quilt and finish. Very close. Looking forward to finishing.

June UFO Quilt: 2022 Bringing Home the Tree by Lori Holt
4th Tree block for the Lori Holt Bring Home the Christmas Tree Quilt

Well this quilt was a quilt a long with Pat Sloan back in 2022 but I never got very far. This popped for June to work on. I am not feeling super ambitious with this quilt so I am going small with my monthly goal. I want to finish a car block.

September Back Door Wall Hangin Cover

This was my random pull for the quilty projects. My goal is to start this project. There is a lot going on with this project. There is the 3 piano borders, the hand stitched wording at the bottom and then the main pieced with the appliqued picture. Looking forward to starting this.

Under the Needle Last Week

While it didn’t feel like I did much this week, those 15 minutes here and there actually paid off and I got a couple of hours here and there as well.

  • Three more pointsettas appliqued on Blooming Pointsettas
  • #100days100blocks2023 Blocks 84-87 and 88 under construction
  • More Magic 8 HST for the temperature quilt
  • Finished May Cottage & Tree
  • Assembled April & May
  • Finished the side border for Sunshine Quilt and attached
  • Pieced units and strips cut for Top & Bottom borders for Sunshine Quilt

Not a bad week at all 😁

Results of May’s Goals

I am pleased with the results of what I wanted to accomplish and what got done. I had 26 projects/goals I wanted to work on. I finished 9 of the 26 and worked on 9 more. Totally happy with that kind of progress.

Afterthoughts

The number of quilts that need to be quilted is growing. I am at the point where I feel like I should have a seperate list for them 😂 Until my long arm is serviced, I am not going to worry about it.

I have a week before me and my friend Mary Elizabeth head off to the Reno Quilt Show for a couple of classes and to meet up with our quilty friends Toni & Teri. I am looking forward to our little trip. They always are fun when the four of us get together.

Good luck on all your quilty projects this week. Hope you found something to help you. A big thanks for stopping by and checking out my craziness.

  1. Hi Peggy. I’m sorry I’m so late to your party but it’s always a joy to see your progress and what great progress you made. Love the appliquéd flowers and I am impressed with how cheerful your Sunshine Quilt is. Thank you for joining ToDo Tuesday. I hope this week was as productive and the heat was bearable. 🤗

  2. Nala and Simba really did a masterful job on quilt inspection. That is such a pretty quilt! I love the look of the Back Door project, and your appliqued poinsettias are gorgeous. Hope the hot week isn’t too icky and yay on looking forward to a little trip!
