To Do Tuesday #59

Welcome to another edition of To Do Tuesday. Once again we will be hooking up with Carol @ Quilt Schmilt in British Columbia. I want to take a moment to send good wishes to everyone effected by the wildfires throughout North America including Hawaii.

A big shout out to Simba for giving me a break last week. Thanks Simba!

What Got Done This Week

While I had a quilty day with my friends on Friday and finished 8 blocks – 4 for each sewalong, I am almost current. I did work on my Monday blocks yesterday but I had to unsew them multiple times so I decided it was time to walk away. There isn’t much left and theortically it should have only taken another 10 minutes. Trust me, I had been working on that 10 minutes for 30 minutes already and KNEW it was break time.

Once again I didn’t work on anything but these SALs this week with the exception of my leaders and enders project – Daydreamer (March Block of the Day with Pat Sloan).

Daydreamer Block

I sketched out a plan to work in some time for my other projects this weekend not only because I have things that need to get done this month but also for my sanity.

Above is the gallery for the 100 days 100 blocks 2023 blocks with Gnome Angel. Below is the gallery for the 365 Block Free Challenge with Kathryn Kerr. Interesting enough, both ladies reside in Australia.

APQ Resolution 2023 Status

No change again this week. Been working solely on my two daily SAL.

  • January – Mama Gypsy – ready to quilt
  • February – Rainbow HST – needs borders
  • March – Tula Pink Tiny Beast quilt – needs borders
  • April – Rainbow Log Cabin – needs top & bottom borders
  • May – Halloween quilt – ready to quilt
  • June – Princess quilt – ready to quilt

Afterthoughts

No kitty pictures this week. I didn’t catch them doing anything cute although they were as cute as ever.

Being retired has not been what I thought it would be. Maybe it was because I didn’t really put much thought into what I would do when I retired. LOL! Of course, I really didn’t expect to retire at 56. I always thought they would be pulling my dead body out of my office.

This summer has been interesting. Most of my summers have been centered around my kids or grandkids. Very strange for it to be just about me. I am slowly figuring out how to put myself first. Do any of you have that problem?

Even though I was the CFO at my company, my job was always about taking care of everyone else. When I was at home, it was more of the same. To go from your life being about everyone else to just you is an adjustment. After three years, I think I am finally getting there. A big shout out to my sister Dorothy and my quilty friends for their insights and support while I muddle through.

Once again, if not for the creative arts (including quilting), I am not sure if I would have ever figured it out. While I have been indulging in my creative side, I realized that I needed to tend my whole self which includes structure (or at least the bare bones).

Enough musing about life. Love everyone who has visited and left comments. I have been viewing others stuff too but for some reason, my computer isn’t letting me leave comments. I have it on my list to get that fixed!!!

Happy Quilting Ladies & Gents.

  1. Your comments about retiring rang a bell for me. We moved when I was 56 or 57 as husband’s job was eliminated after the company was bought and sold twice. (Really? Twice in less than a year.) I told hubby I wasn’t getting another job. Quilting really became my job although I wasn’t making money from it. But I did try to spend part of every day in my little studio. I read a lot of books, volunteered at a local library and started blogging. Odd that I really never missed working. We’ve moved twice since then and always made sure I had studio space. (Much bigger than when I first retired.) I love working and playing in my studio or reading or … I am a happy camper doing what I like. I hope you reach the same feeling as you adjust to retirement. BTW, your blocks are gorgeous. I like how you are keeping up with the UFO challenge. Is that the APQ UFO Challenge? I’ve been working on it this year but haven’t been as involved as last year. (Read that as not getting as many projects moved forward!) Keep plugging away.

    1. Thanks Bonnie. Your comments are so encouraging and helpful. I have not made as much progress on the UFO challenge as I would prefer but progress is progress. It helps with focusing my efforts. Thanks Bonnie for your kind words. I do read your blog often and love your work!!!

  2. I am assuming you weren’t affected by Harold? All of your blocks are lovely. I know what you mean about capturing the cuteness of kitties. Mine are so cute, but as soon as I pull out the iPhone to take a photo, they want to stick their face in it.
I’ve been retired since 2010, and it is still hard to take care of myself first. I love being in “my” room doing what I enjoy, but I am distracted by so many things – our animals, my husband and his projects, what to make for dinner, projects for my daughter – you name it. I think it’s ingrained in us! But it does get easier, so I hope you find your stride.

    1. Luckily Harold brought some rain but not much more than that.

Thanks so much for all your encouragement and insights!!! Retirement is something I am learning how to be. Putting myself first is hard but I am making progress. So happy to always read your thoughts and comments!!!
