To Do Tuesday #49

How quickly time flies. This week felt like it was super long. Not sure if that is because I was productive or that my life feels in chaos with the contractors in and out on an unknown schedule. They are finally back today after finishing the preliminary work on the shower. Wednesday they are scheduled to start retiling the shower! Yea! Sharing a bathroom with a 15 year old teenage boy is not fun. Habits are … well let’s just say, I am use to cleaner sinks, etc.

I will be joining up with Carol over at Quilt Schmilt again today with this week’s linky To Do Tuesday party. Come on over and check it out!

What Got Done This Week

With the uncertainty of when a contractor would arrive morning, noon, or night, it definitely had me up early and hanging around waiting for them. I found myself finding comfort in my sewing studio – my happy place. I ended up discovering a number of long forgotten projects this week as well as being in a mood to work on a variety of projects. Here is what I actually got done:

  1. I finally focused on my potholders that I have been calling Love Note. I cut the innards (I use 2 layers of flannel and 1 layer of batting just like my grandma did). I got them all layered up and quilted – both sets! I also cut, ironed, and attached the binding to them.
  2. Finished Wall Hanging Year in Words – Flowers. Felt so good to be done and hung on the wall!
  3. For Shamrock Ridge On Wander Lane, I pulled the fabric for the borders and binding from last week’s haul AND got the borders sewn on. Yesterday I cut batting and backing. This project is layered and ready to be quilted. (Can you see how happy that makes me!?)
  4. I finished the Scrappiness is Happiness Apple block as well as cut the next two to sew this week.
  5. For Block 22 of the Lost and Found quilt, I finished round 2 and started the final round on this block. I still haven’t quite hit my personal goal of 15 minutes a day of EPP.
  6. One of my long forgotten projects was some orphan blocks from the Tula Pink Tiny Beast quilt. I had four so I decided they would be mismatched potholders. I squared them up, cut backing and batting. I still need to cut some flannel for these. I also pulled out of my jelly roll leftovers from that quilt matching bindings. Looking at the blocks, I could have paired them up based on the outside matching strips but decided to match them based on the center strip colors instead.
  7. Another forgotten project was a series I was working pre-flooding back in 2016. I seem to be missing some of the months but I pulled out August and was pleasantly surprised that I had done all the piecing and embroidery already. that just left me to assemble the top, applique the pieces on the background, cut batting and backing, then layer it up. I looked at the one I have done prior on this series and I was appliquing through all three layers (I don’t really do that anynore but I will for this series). This series is called Backdoor Quilts and this one is called Welcome Friends.
  8. I finished up four more blocks for my Tula Pink Daydreamer March Block of the Month that I have been working on. Started on the four patches for the next set of 4.
  9. I watched a project bag tutorial on You Tube this week using mini charm packs and decided to try my hand at it. I had to order some matching fabrics and am awaiting my order but I sewed all the rows together for my patriotic bag using Union Square mini charm pack.
  10. I laid out a second project bag using Iris & Ivy mini charm pack.

APQ Resolution 2023 Status

The best laid plans of mice and men have gone haywire. I had planned to quilt the quilts that were ready last week. I just could not wrap my head around that at this time. No forward motion on any of these. The list just keeps growing.

  • January – Mama Gypsy Quilt – ready to quilt
  • February – Rainbow Half Square Triangle Lap Quilt – Borders ready to cut
  • March – Tula Pink Tiny Beast Queen Quilt – borders needed
  • April – Rainbow Log Cabin Quilt – needs top & bottom borders
  • May – Halloween quilt – ready to quilt
  • June – Princess Twin Quilt – need backing

To Do List for Week of June 6th

Now that I have you caught up withwhat has and hasn’t been done. We will put together a list of things I could do this week:

  2. Quilt Shamrock Ridge wall hanging
  3. Finish four patches for next set of Daydreamer blocks (formerly known as March BOM)
  4. Cut and sew block 15 of the Sweet Childhood Memories QAL (SCM)
  5. Cut sashing for Section 1 of SCM quilt and assemble
  6. Cut July 3rd & 4th 365 blocks
  7. Cut and sew 2 large wheel blocks from Section 1 of the Tula Pink Butterfly quilt
  8. Cut and sew 24 half square triangles from Section 1 of the Tula Bink Butterfly quilt
  9. Sew Scrappiness is Happiness Blossom Block and Checkerboard block
  10. Finish block 22 of the Lost and Found quilt
  11. Start Queen of Diamonds block 1-1
  12. Purchase backing for the Princess Twin Quilt
  13. Cut both borders for the Rainbow HST quilt
  14. Rewatch Youtube videos for long arm
  15. Load Mama Gypsy quilt on long arm
  16. Label fabrics received so far for the Queen of Diamonds SAL for future reference. Just received this morning my removable labels that I like to use on fabrics because they don’t leave a residue.
Nala keeping my wool mat and fabric warm

Afterthoughts

Last week I also made a trip to my local quilt store to pick up sashing fabric for my Sweet Childhood Memories quilt. I wanted solid purple as my sashing since I have a ptterned background fabric. I didn’t have enough in my stash. While I was there I picked up a yard of two more tula pink fabrics. One I have already cut into for the Tiny Beast potholders.

While I was there, I forgot I was supposed to get backing for my Princess Twin quilt. Oh darn! I will just have to go back again. What a hardship (she said tongue in cheek).

You will not be hearing from me next Tuesday as I will be hitting the road with my Quilty friends – Mary Elizabeth & Teri – to meet up with Teri’s sister Toni for a girls week at the Reno Quilt Festival shopping and generally have a good time. I have definitely been looking forward to this road trip.

I wish everyone the best until we touch base again in a couple of weeks.

  1. Wow Peggy! That was quite the list and you got so much done on it last week! The charm square project will be cute when you get it finished and of course the pot holders and your happy wall hangings are wonderful finishes. using your orphan blocks to make pot holders is ingenious. I hope this week has you being as happy with your progress on the very ambitious list and that you are ready to head out with your friends and have fun. Enjoy the Reno Quilt Festival. I’ve never managed to be there when one is one. I keep missing them so I hope you take lots of photos for us! Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday.

  2. I love love love both of the mini charms!! You had quite a productive week! Have fun on your trip!!
