We have come storming into March here in San Jose, California. We are still having record temperature lows (for us) and storms are rolling in and out of the area every few days. I can only hope that the government is actually keeping the water unlike last time this happened. They let all the water out of the reservoirs due to the fear of flooding and we ended up being in a drought despite the fact we had record waterfall for the year. It has even hailed here multiple times. It is kind of cool to see us surrounded by snow topped hills. Snowfall was as low as 500 feet here. For those of you who are from places with real winters, you are probably laughing at me (I know I would). One of the reasons I love the Bay Area is the fact I get to drive to snow when I want it. I do not want it falling whenever it decides. LOL!
It is that time of the week when I look back at what I have accomplished and what I hope to accomplish in the upcoming week. I will be hooking up with Carol over at Quilt Schmilt.
What Got Done This Week?
Well I am re-writing this section, as Simba (my co-author and cat who thinks he is hooman), just erased everything with the mouse. Oh yes, he can use a mouse. At least he doesn’t try to eat it, unlike my apple pencil, cords, threads, plants, etc.
Let’s do this again (for me)
- Finished Sweet Childhood Memories block 6. It turned out gorgeous. I wasn’t sure if the prints would fight with each other, but I ended up liking it very much.
- I cut weeks 13 & 14 of Scrappiness is Happiness QAL. I am pretty behind on this one, but I am okay. I was able to also get my Alison Glass scraps very organized. I am feeling pretty good with the time I spent doing this during the week.
- I was able to sew up Block 13 of Scrappiness is Happiness as well. I was excited when I found those deep purple 1 1/2″ strips for the “sashing”. I ended up using different scrappy whites for the block. I think it looks good.
- I finished assembling row 11 of the White Hawaiian Charm quilt and even got it pinned and ready to sew last night.
- I finished assembling row 7 of the Tula Pink Tiny Beast quilts. One more row to go after attaching this one.
- I probably spent the most time starting another new QAL with Pat Sloan called the March Block of the Month. I didn’t do last year’s but I did do the 2021 version of this. I couldn’t resist. I had laying out for months now a Day Dreamer layer cake and Tula Pink solids jelly roll that I hadn’t decided what I wanted to do with them, but knew I wanted to use them together. When I saw this pattern, it just clicked. I just needed some yardage to tie all the blocks together so I stole the border fabric (purple with micro aqua dots) from Tiny Beast project to use as background in this quilt. I love it! There is no purple in Day Dreamer and it gives the same impact as black. I have 8 sewn and another 8 cut.
To Do List #40 (March 7th – March 13th)
I have a lot of carryover from last week since I went all SQUIRREL with the March Block of the Month/Day. The QAL only calls for 36 blocks (just a wee bit more than one per day) but of course, I want to use up the whole layer cake. I didn’t really need the jelly roll, because I could have done this QAL with just a layer cake and the background fabric. Where is the fun in that?!
This week’s roadmap:
- Scrappiness is Happiness Block #14
- Quilt Love Note Potholders
- Bind Love Note Potholders
- Finish adding rows to finish center of White Hawaiian Charm Quilt
- Finish adding rows to finish center of Tula Pink Tiny Beast Quilt (APQ Mar)

Wrap Up
We hit the road on Thursday for Hockey California States for 16AA. If they win, then we will be heading to New York in a few weeks for Nationals. Rumor has it second place is also going to Nationals this year. But first we have to get through the weekend. This morning was very chaotic as the hotel moved 10 of our reservations to another hotel but the rooms were not comparable. I had to find a new hotel on short notice. I am only thankful that it was today and not when we are checking in on Thursday. Keeping our fingers crossed that the boys play well.
Other than that, I also signed up for an Adobe Illustrator class that started yesterday but I haven’t received my class materials yet. I see that I am getting a package tomorrow so I hope it is my stuff. I am excited to learn AI. I have always wanted to try my hand at designing. It has so so many applications including fabric design. Can’t wait to learn something new!
Still working on my digital planner journey and am getting more comfortable everyday although I still find myself gravitating to my paper planner and quilt journal. LOL! I absolutely love learning new things.
Good luck on all your projects this week!
Peggy
Peggy your weekly list of projects makes my head spin with all you get done. poor you with Simba erasing your work. I love the fabrics/blocks for the new QAL. Thank you for sharing all of the lovely photos of your wip’s. It is fun to watch everything progress. Good luck with the hockey, and do enjoy the snow. It’s snowing here as I write this so it’s nice to read someone enjoying it although we all need the moisture it seems. Thank you for linking with To Do Tuesday.
Thanks Carol for your kind words
I enjoyed seeing all of your projects–you have a lot going on!–and your two whiskered helpers!
Well done! That’s quite a bit of progress even with all “Squirrel” moments! Simba.Simba. Simba. I guess he thought it was his turn to write again!
The Mama Gypsy looked great and the polka dot purple really did provide a similar “black” to make the other colors pop!
I am so excited for Shaun and his weekend, even more excited that you found out about the hotel before check-in!
The AI sound fabulous and considering how much you love to learn, I think you will be able to create some incredible work!
Love you!
I’m not laughing at you – when you aren’t used to snow, and when snow happens, it is an event! You are really getting some unusual weather for your area. I laughed out loud at Simba erasing your words though – guess he didn’t like what you wrote. 😉 Is that him curled up on Childhood Memories, with paws placed “just so”? Cali looks quite at home on Mama Gypsy. Good luck with your trip!
Actually that is Nala. She loves sleeping on the ironing board.
