To Do Tuesday #148

Welcome to this week’s update of quilty things. Hope everyone had a great week. We are surviving another heat wave. It seems to be the case all over the west coast.

I will be linkink up with Carol @ Quilt Schmilt again for To Do Tuesday. Check it out.

Let’s get started.

Weekly Progress

It ended up being a pretty productive week.

  • I spent one whole evening pressing and cutting fabric for Dragonfruit Month 8. I took the time to Organize all the blocks after prepping them. These will be the last blocks I will be making for this quilt.
  • To clean up my area, I pressed all of Dragonfruit Month 7 blocks and removed the paper before putting them away until Month 9.
  • Can’t remember if I shared this already, but I did find my patriotic tablerunner. I pulled out some batting and leftover fabric to make a backing.
  • I was able to cut my binding strips for the Are You Game? Quilt top I finished last week.
  • I spent another day, unpacking the Spring Placemat project bag. Found I only need to quilt two more placemats. I got that done.
  • I searched for the pattern for my Project Bags 2.0 By Annie’s and finally found it!
  • I proceeded to quilt the back panel of the Patriotic project bag. Love how it looks but it is definitely larger than what is called for in the pattern. Trying to decide how to proceed.
  • I watched the free Add on Video By Annie’s. Things still weren’t very clear. So went to You Tube and searched. I watched another 3 videos over a two day period. Finally, I think I understand the process.
  • I realized I was missing fusible interfacing which is recommended for these project bags. At first I was thinking, I would skip that part. But now I understand the why so today, I picked some up (haven’t unboxed my existing supply).
  • Got my ironing station setup finally.

Weekly To Do List

I learned early in my quilting journey that I actually love to bind. It is the final step and I really get a lot of pleasure from binding. It means I completed the project. Although I might procrastinate, I am not afraid of it. I am also not averse to pseudo binding. It is definitely quicker. How about you? Do you have a Fear of Binding (FOB)?

Here is my list of items I plan to work on this next week:

  • Make the binding for ARE YOU GAME? I got it cut just need to make and iron it. I plan on keeping it with the top
  • Make another two Rosie’s Peacock Colorstory blocks
  • Still need to change my needle
  • Still need to change the rotary blade
  • 30 more minutes working on unpacking the sewing studio
  • Setup cutting station
  • Make backing for the patriotic table runner
  • Sketch out the sewing studio
  • Finish the Ruby’s Garden block 25
  • Start sewing Month 8 Dragonfruit blocks
  • Cut and prep binding for spring placemats
  • Begin binding spring placemats
  • Finish the front of my patriotic project bag
  • Make binding for the project bag

Musings

All week while working in my sewing studio, my cat companions defintely felt like they were the protector of fabric. I would find one or the other orange furball laying on or where I needed to be. I am dreaming of the day when they will decide to hangout without interfering. I know it is probably a pipe dream, but it is my pipe dream. 😹

While at Hobby Lobby today, I picked up a second 60mm rotary cutter. Mine got ruined (rusted some how) and I am tired of fighting with it. So I splurged. I tried cleaning the cutter and replacing the blade. Before I throw it away, I am wondering if there is something else I could do? Suggestions?

I was tempted to buy another pair of batting scissors but I fought the urge since I already have two pairs. LOL 🤪

Have a great week everyone. Good luck on ALL of your projects. I hope to see you next week.

Happy Quilting
