Quilt Diary: 4th Quarter 2019 Goals

Hello my fellow crafters!  I had an okay first quarter, a dismal second quarter, and a fantastic third quarter.  Now it is time to set goals for the fourth quarter for the #2019FAL 2019 Finishalong hosted by Capitola Quilter (one of many hosts).  I started participating in 2018 and it has really helped this ADD girl to focus.  Yes, I still jump around because that is my nature to work more than one project.  Of course, if I worked on one project at a time, then I wouldn’t need goal setting challenges like #onethingwithAmy, #onemonthlygoal, #ssqfinishalong, or #finishalong.  My creative nature requires me to move on to something else when I have a block.  It works for me!  The other thing I have discovered, I do not like being limited by a list, but I love checking things off a list!  LOL!

Fourth Quarter of the year is one of my favorite crafting times.  I absolutely love all the awesome holidays during this time frame.  This year I don’t have just my goals, but my daughter Caitlin put in her requests.  The list for this quarter is a wee bit long.  Sorry everyone.

Fourth Quarter Goals for 2019 Finishalong

Starting with my unfinished goals from last quarter:

  1.  Hexagon Charity Quilt.  The quilt that seems to never be finished.  I just need to finish quilting and binding.  I seem to be having that problem with anything that needs to be quilted.  Good news – I setup an appointment to have my long arm fixed.  Maybe now it will get done.img_0650
  2.  2010 NYE Quilt.  Another half finished quilt that I just need to finish quilting and bind.img_0651
  3. 2018 Quilters Planner Sew-A-Long Classic Beauty setting. (I made two).  Still needs to be assembled, basted, quilted, and bound.img_3119
  4. Sunflower Ohio Star Potholders.  They need to be basted, quilted, and bound.img_2856
  5.  Blue Pinwheel Potholders.  They need to be basted, quilted, and bound.img_2855
  6.  Blooming Series: Pansies Wallhanging.  I need to pick up where I left off on the machine applique, layer, baste, quilt, and bind.  This one will also need a hanging sleeve..

  7.  2019 Alison Glass Trinket Sew-A-Long Quilt.  It needs to be bordered, layered, basted, quilted, and bound.
  8.  Halifax Temperature Quilt.  I have to finish piecing all the blocks for each day, assemble, border, applique, layer, baste, quilt, and bind.  If I was a betting woman, this one is highly unlikely to be finished this quarter but will be worked on.
  9.  Jack o’Lantern Wooly Mug Rugs by Shabby Fabrics.  Still in the package but a high priority.  I need to trace & cut out the applique pieces, applique to background, embellish with embroidery, layer, and bind.

  10.  Quilter’s Planner 2019 Sew-A-Long.  I am moving this off the WIP list to the to be finished list because we sew the last blocks in November and plan to assemble in December.  It is not out of the realm of possibilities that this snowflake quilt could be a finished quilt in three months.  (just in case)img_2468
  11. Tula Pink Zuma Charms Squared Quilt.  Another one I am moving off the WIP list to the possible finish list.  I finished all the blocks and have begun assembling the quilt.  Still need to border, layer, baste, quilt, and bind.
  12.  #100days100blocks2019 Quilt.  Another off the WIP to the To Be Finished List.  This week we finished making the last block.  I have a half assembled quilt already with a planned layout already established.  During this SAL, the quilt got dibbed on.  It will be for a friend of Caitlin’s who recently got married and really wants a Christmas Quilt.  To finish this quilt, I have to assemble, border, layer, baste, quilt, and bind.

That wraps up everything on last Quarter’s list.  Now I will list all the new projects that I want to finish this quarter for the upcoming holidays.

New Projects to the list

  1.  Fall Table Cloth for Caitlin big table.  Another request by daughter as she hosts Thanksgiving every year.  I have ideas of what I am going to do.  I will do a motif in the center with fall blocks and add leaves around that.img_2853
  2.  Fall Patio Table Cloth for Caitlin.  Another request as she uses the table during the holdiay.  So this will coordinate with the above table cloth.

  3.  Baby Quilt for Hockey Coach.  A flannel baby quilt for Shaun’s coach.  Most likely to go with the quick and easy rag quilt since the baby is due at the beginning of December.

Works in Progress to be worked on this Quarter but will not be finished:

  1.  Peacock Colostory Miss Rosie Blocks.  I will continue making blocks for this future quilt.  I hope to complete at least 8 blocks this quarter.img_0436
  2. #365blockchallenge Blocks.  I have slowed down due to all the 3rd quarter SAL.  I hope to be better this quarter.  I am in May and I hope to get thru June this quarter as well as assemble the first dark border.
  3.  Farmers Wife 1920 English Paper Pieced Blocks.  I am currently on block 32.  I hope to make it to block 45 by end of the quarter.

  4.  Cosmos Mystery Quilt Team Catherine by Cotton Cuts.  I plan to stay current on these monthly clues.  So far so good.
  5.  Grandmothers Garden English Paper Piecing Blocks.  This quilt is a tribute to my Grandma Ruby Adamsen who hand pieced and hand quilted this very pattern for me for my wedding in 1989.  It is one of my treasured quilts that is unfortunately disintegrating as she used polyester batting.  Word to the wise, stick to cotton batting.  All those loving hours put into this quilt destroyed by man made fibers cutting through the cotton fabrics which were recycled to begin with.  I am attempting to duplicate her beautiful work.  My goal this quarter is to finish at least 3 diamond blocks.

Recap

Wow with 12 projects carried over from previous quarters and 25 new projects, that is a total of 37 possible finishes.  I originally limited myself to 12 projects but soon realized that I needed to put everything that I might work on as well as those, I want to work on. I like listing my long term projects and making goals for them as well as that helps me know when I am slipping.  There are at least 10 assembled tops in my closet.  As soon as I can get #1 & #2 off my list, I will pull some of them out.  Then there are all those ideas running around in my head such as a Cat Christmas Quilt that did not make the list.  Or how about all those projects started at PIQF each year.  Maybe in 2020 those will get added to the list.
