Hi Everyone! I hope you had a great weekend last weekend. I had a very nice long weekend with my daughter and her boyfriend Jannes and have made plans for Christmas in Whistler, BC. Looking forward to it!
Starts & Finishes
It’s been a busy week with new starts and a couple of finishes. Let’s take a look.
FFO: Caitlin’s Map
Of course one of the things I HAD to get done was the map Caitlin finished stitching back in April. I had slowly been gathering supplies for the finish. The finish I ended up with was NOT what I had in my head although she seemed pleased with the finish.
She stitched on 28 ct Witchel icelandic blue linen with DMC greens. She modified the pattern slightly but for the most part stitched the pattern which she found in Cross Stitch magazine.
I discovered these poster hangers on amazon. This is the first time I ever used one on a finished project. I ended up having to make a pocket for the back piece to slide through. I will have to experiment with this over time. But overall I was pleased with the results.
START & FINISH: September Nine Patch by Primrose Cottage Stitches
I finally finished the whole series. Yesterday, I pulled all twelve finished stitches to work on after I finish the Summer Basket pillows. These also will be mini pillows eventually.
This was stitched on white 25 ct lugana with called for DMC floss.
START & FINISH: Hello September (Hello There series) by Hands on Design
This was stitched on 16 white aida with the called for DMC floss. I was jamming through this one when I realized I made a mistake. I don’t know about you guys, but when I have to unstitch, I lose all momentum. I ended up retiring this stitch early the first day. I still finished in two days though. Only three more to go.
START: Autumn Basket – Chart 1 (Triple Play Pillow series) by Hands on Design
I debated whether to start this series this month since I have three WIPS halloween/fall projects I pulled out of the closet. Honestly, I just couldn’t wait to start it. I absolutely love the colors that Cathy used for these. Her color palettes closely mirror what colors I prefer.
So, I got this one started using 16 ct dubloon aida with called for DMC floss.
WIP Updates
LOL! I didn’t even come close to doing what I had planned for this week. Not that I didn’t do some of the things I planned. Like last night I just got a major impulse to work on Prim Stitch so I did. My ADHD was definitely rearing its head this week. I didn’t once go in my sewing studio because I just wasn’t feeling inspired.
WIPGO Project: Fruit of Plenty by Modern Folk Embroidery
I took this project to Monterey over the weekend to work on in the hotel at night. The lighting really sucks in hotel rooms so it is always slow going. I have no idea what happened to my my portable lamp. I need to figure out where I put it because I have several trips upcoming and will need it. Meanwhile, I continue working with the dark teal thread on this project. I am almost done with that color on the June page then it will be time to fill in with the light teal. I really like the progress on this project.
My goal is to work on this project five times during September instead of my n0rmal three. I secretly hoping that I will be able to finish the June page of the chart. It would be very exciting to be half done at last!
Prim Stitch Series by Lori Holt (Bee in my Bonnet)
I am currently working on chart 11 of 12 for this series. I am getting a little excited feeling like the end is finally close after three years of working on this project. I will still have border work to do but I can just taste the end in sight.
I do enjoy working 25 count lugana, I just wished that it did end up so big. I know most people get these framed and if I wanted to leave this up all year long maybe I will but with a piece this big it would be quite expensive to have professionally framed. I did one for my mom 20 years ago and it was a $1000. I am not prepared to spend that kind of money to frame it. I have time to think about it.
June Truckin Along by Stitching with the Housewives
Wow! Talk about seeing the end! While I had hoped I would finish this in August, I KNOW I will be able to finish this in September. That will leave only one more in this series to stitch and it is the July. I haven’t decided whether I will start the last one right away or wait a while. Those gray chickens are so darn cute!
Upcoming Plans & Thoughts
I also pulled out the supplies need to finish the Summer Basket pillows after watching the finishing tutorial on You Tube. I took lots of notes. I have cut everything to finish the front of the first pillow. I think it will be easiest to finish the front of all three pillows before hand quilting the big stitches on the pillows. So far I am really enjoying this process.
We have a hockey tournament next weekend so I will not be posting next Friday. It is just too hectic during tournaments to get the time to post. And with Thursday being a travel day, it is doubly hard. So more likely than not, it will be a couple of weeks before you hear from me on Fridays.
Here is my plan for the next two weeks:
- Snowman Collector – The Needleworker will be going to Denver next weekend. I also have on my schedule to work on this weekend as well which will get in all five nights on this WIPGO project. That will allow me to set aside for the rest of the month.
- Fruit of Plenty
- Start September Year of Celebration (and finish)
- Honey Tiny Town
- June Truckin Along Finish
- August Sampler of the Month
- June Snap Shot
- June Calendar Crates
- June Stackables
I am sitting her debating on whether to focus on some projects that could be done in a couple of days succh as Trucking Along, Samper of the Month and Stackables. Hmmm. Something to think about.
I also have a ton of scanning I need to do. It has been a while and my bag to be scanned is starting to get a little full. I also am looking forward to working on my Oracle Halloween project from last year. I find quaker projects fascinating.
Have a great weekend everyone! Drop a note about things you might be working on? Do you prefer to work on Halloween or Fall projects? Or are you like me and just love all autumn stitchy projects?

Christmas in Whistler sounds wonderful! That poster hanger is pretty keen – I’ll bookmark those on Amazon. Your Prim stitch is so pretty, and wow on the cost to have your Mom’s piece professionally framed! Hope you have a good weekend!
