Floss Friday #106

We are experiencing pleasant late summer early fall weather with temperatures around 80 for the next few days. A welcome reprieve from the 90+ temperatures earlier in the week. I am looking forward to fall. It is truly my favorite season of the year. Nice temperatures, beautiful weather, kids back in school. Just love it.

I have all these fall projects I want to start so I have made a push to try and finish all those projects close to being done.

Starts & Finishes🏁

This week I was able to finish three more projects and finally started my next tiny town. I probably should have picked a fall one, but I couldn’t resist this last taste of summer.

FINISH: July Monthly Markings by Heart in Hand 🐝

My happy mail came last Friday. Obviously, I had to pull out the threads needed to finish up this July square. I love these bees. They are adorable.

It is being stitched on 16 ct country french mocha with the called for fancy floss.

FINISH: Let’s Talk Summer Pillow & Paper 🍉

I was able to finish the pillow chart and the little paper watermelons I need for the small hoop. Love stitching watermelons. I kind of wished the pillow would have had a few but I still love it.

These were stitched on 16 ct black aida and 14 ct kraft brown perforated paper with the called for DMC floss

FINISH: Sail Away by It’s Sew Emma ⚓️

Woohoo! This one has been taking forever. It was released in 2021 as a free pattern I downloaded. I started it in 2022 using only my stash. Because it is from my stash, I am not sure what color of aida I used. I want to say it is a 14 ct baby blue aida but I don’t really know. Back then I wasn’t very good at keeping the packaging/labelling for my fabrics.

I used all DMC floss. Some of the called for was in my stash, if it wasn’t I subbed whatever was on hand. I think it turned out pretty good.

START: Seaside Tiny Town by Heart in Hand 🦀
Start of Seaside Tiny Town 8/27/2024

I was excited to start this tiny town. I was tempted to start one of the fall ones but I was stitching on the other half of Blooming Tiny Town and I wanted to finish up the cloth without cutting it before I was done stitching. I was thrilled to finish this adorable lighthouse in my first sitting. I confused myself when I kitted this one up.

I obviously was missing a bunch of floss and ordered it. Instead of logging into my spreadsheet and putting the floss on the ring, I just threw it in the bag. It wasn’t until the end of the night, that I realized that is what I done. Next go around I have to finish updating and organizing this bag. LOL!

August WIPGO Update 🗓️

WIPGO August 2024
WIPGO Project #15: July Stackables by It’s Sew Emma (FQS) 🍉

My default goal for WIPGO projects is to work on the project five times during the month. With this one, it was to finish what I started in July. Bingo! Only 4 left in the series. So exciting. July’s was a lot of fun with many of my favorite things to stitch ~ watermelon, popsicles, lemonade. Great time.

WIPGO Project #12: Snowman’s Collector – The Shepherd by Cottage Garden Samplings ⛄️

It is exciting to be on the 3rd in this series. I know it will take me awhile the way I work on projects, but I just love this series. I felt great getting in some quality time on The Shepherd this month. I really made some progress.

WIP Updates 📋

With all the finishes, starts, and WIPGO projects, that doesn’t leave much for this section. Let’s take a look at the couple that fall here.

2024 SJ Temperature Library by Kristi’s Corner 🌡️

Surprise! I worked on another 6 books this week for the library. I am catching up so this is during one of the cooler weeks of August. Still in love with this project.

Mr. September The Calendar Gnome by Charlie’s Needle 🍎
Mr September WIP 8/26/2024

It felt good getting some real time to work on this project this week. It looks a little weird since I started in the middle and that happens to be his hat. When I work on linen or evenweave, I don’t feel comfortable skipping around so I usually work an area until it is done.

I started to try and work all of the white, but backed off because I wasn’t feeling confident that I had it right. So I went back and finished the leafy end of his hat and working on his hatband. I put the nose in 🤞that I didn’t mess it up. Gingham seems to be a big thing with quite a few cross stitch designers. When i came back to cross stitch, I was not thrilled about it. It has grown on me and I now like it.

This is called 28 ct legacy lugana. I really like the color.

Upcoming Plans & Thoughts 💭

Snowman Collector WIP 8/29/2024

I couldn’t help myself this week. With so many finishes (seven!) this month, it really opened up what I could work on. WIPGO pull came in a few days ago, but I opted to wait until next week to share my September WIPGO projects. None of them were fall.

My WIP list has really been reduced to Fall and Winter/Christmas projects. I only had two fall WIPS not already working . They have been pulled and I am ready to go baby! They are Autumn Beauty and Fall Harvest. Both were WIPGO projects earlier this year.

My other planned (for sure) starts for September is the next Month 2 Month which is February and August Stackables plus my two all year long projecjects: August Monthly Markings and September Year of Celebration. That is four new starts with two of those being finished by end of month. (+2)

Cats & Quilts (Simba)
Fall is in the air!

So…. I started looking at all the autumn/fall projects I have been stocking up on. I am definitely going to start (and finish) Pop of Autumn. Pop of Summer was fast, easy, and fun. I am expecting Autumn to be the same.

I have pulled but haven’t committed to starting in September Fall is in the Air (cute little fox) by FQS Stitch Quarterly and Autumn Stitching Season by Stitching with the Housewives. They are kitted and ready, I may just start them because it always seems easier to work on something already started.

I also got a free pattern from Liz Matthews Pateron site called House on Pumpkin Hill that I have fallen in love with. I wanted to do this 100% from my stash so I went through and pulled all the DMC. I am only missing one color that I will purchase. Found an adorable Sunflower bag to store the project in. Then came the auditioning fabric by using the floss pull. I am trying to use up my stash of linens and evenweave, so that is what I threw out and then tossed the floss on it. I had hoped for an evenweave, but the floss went best with a linen. Overall this is a fairly dense stitch so it will probably work well. Once again, I haven’t committed to starting, but when you have a stack of possible starts…..

Right now I have 5 new starts and 6 finishes planned for September. We shall see what really happens. I was so encouraged by how much I have gotten done in August. With two days left, it is possible I will finish another project that is close.

Everyone enjoy your last weekend in August and your first weekend in September. It is a 3 day weekend here in the U.S. I have plans to stay home and out of traffic but have some fun planned for the next weekend.

Enjoy!
